Prevail Nail Lacquer Summer Favorites in Sweet Fleet, Letter – Ma’am, Haute Stuff, Chelsea Chic & City Sparkle Review

Ola bonita chica’s!

With the summer heating up our work place and homes I wanted to find colours that I could wear on my nails which are work appropriate but also cool and light on the eyes. On a recent trip to a drug store I was introduced to this Prevail line of nail polishes and I picked up a few of these only to go back and buy some more! Let me tell you a little more about them because they are not all awesome and some are a bit hit and miss. I also like buying my nail polishes in complimentary colours so I can do simple nail art with accents so that is why I have paired these up. Let me tell you more about them!

These nail polishes come in transparent glass bottles that have survived a few accidental falls. The bright colours and shades of these nail polishes can be seen clearly through the bottle and they open by twisting off the black top easily. The shade details are listed on the bottle base and instructions and precautions are folded in the paper underneath. Flammable is one of them, so be careful not to light this on fire. Wouldn’t that be an interesting chemistry experiment? Haha!

Ingredients
I always wonder what is in nail polishes because there are never any ingredients listed on nail polish bottles and I never find anything online about them. Sorry about that guys!

Product claims
DBP, Toluene and Formaldehyde free as stated on the reverse of the bottle.

Price
USD 6.50 for 14 ml or 0.5 Fl Oz

My experience with the Prevail Nail Lacquer in Sweet Fleet, Letter – Ma’am, Haute Stuff, Chelsea Chic and City Sparkle:

First of all the sales assistant informed me that the prices of these had recently gone up from $6 but I was originally there to pick up some Essie shades and this was still cheaper than Essie so I decided to give it a try. I am happy I did because I love discovering good brands! To be honest these names of some of these make no sense to me and I do not see how they connect with their respective colours, but here we go!

Sweet Fleet: This is a beautiful baby blue colour that I was immediately attracted to. I guess you could call it a pastel, but it is a little brighter than that. I really like this shade because it is very easily the smoothest nail polish I have come across in a long time. OPI is not as smooth, that brand has never impressed me. I did two coats but still did not get the desired opacity I wanted and you can see the streaks on my nails but the application itself was effortless. The applicator brush has not frayed with rough use with me stabbing the bottle when I’m trying to close it. The applicator also spreads well on the nail, spreading colour evenly.

Letter – Ma’am: As confusing as this name is for a dark blue nail varnish I have gotten past it! I bought this colour to do a French tip on Sweet Fleet and in that aspect it works well but on its own I do not like this shade very much. This is not close enough to a royal blue for my liking and the colour does not look as bright when applied as in does in the bottle. Also I did not get full opacity with two coats and you could kind of see my nail growth through the colour. It also had a plastiky shiny finish which I did not like. The applicator is good though so I know that the apparatus is good quality, the fault is just with this shade.

Haute Stuff: I love this bright bold and almost neon pink! Maybe that is because I am partial to pinks but this shade really is hot stuff!! I think this is the one that compliments me the best and is my favourite. It is also much more opaque than the blue shades and I love how thick and almost shellac type it looks on my nails. This dried easily in a few minutes and dried to a shiny finish which I love! It was also easy to remove with nail polish remover and I did not notice any chipping for the time that I wore it.

Chelsea Chic: Again what this name has to do with the colour of this nail polish is beyond me. But the name aside, boy do I love its performance! Again I bought this to do a French tip on Haute Stuff but I am loving it on its own as well. Two coats has given me the desired opacity and it dries within minutes for a nice shiny finish, although not as shiny as Haute Stuff. This is not the brightest and most cheerful purple but I do like it more than both the blue colours. It however applied smoothly and the two coats came off easily with nail polish remover.

City Sparkle: After a long long time I have fallen in love with a sparkly nail varnish. Most of them are annoying to remove and this one is a rhymes-with-witch to remove too, but it is the smoothest glitter nail polish that I’ve seen in a while when it’s dry! I loved the way it looks in the bottle and it looks even better on the nails. I’ve only done two coats and unlike other glitter polishes they dried so quickly and I’m sure that it will just look even better with 3 coats! This is great for an accent nail like your thumb or ring finger, maybe a bit much for the whole hand. Removal however was tough.

Pros of the Prevail Nail Lacquer in Sweet Fleet, Letter – Ma’am, Haute Stuff, Chelsea Chic and City Sparkle:

  • Great variety of colours
  • Reasonable price
  • Dries quickly
  • Brilliant quality applicator that does not fray
  • Dries to a shiny finish
  • Does not chip off

Cons of the Prevail Nail Lacquer in Sweet Fleet, Letter – Ma’am, Haute Stuff, Chelsea Chic and City Sparkle :

Sweet Fleet:
Conistency was a bit thin and I was unable to get desired opacity in 2 coats.
Letter – Ma’am:
Dries to a plastiky finish looking a bit tacky and is not true to the colour in bottle
City Sparkle:
Really hard to remove like any other glitter nail polish!

Would I repurchase or recommend the Prevail Nail Lacquer in Sweet Fleet, Letter – Ma’am, , Haute Stuff, Chelsea Chic and/or City Sparkle?
Yes to both! I have repurchased more shades from this line but have donated Letter – Ma’am to a friend who does some ninja nail art because I do not see myself wearing it ever. But I recommend the others highly especially because the applicator is very precise!
