Pros and Cons of Undergoing Microdermabrasion: Ask IMBB

Ask IMBB Gang

Shilpa asks:

Hellaw there….

I am sure you IMBB Gang is rocking as ever!! I would like to get benefited from the gyaanΒ of IMBBians @ Microdermabrasion. I have bought one beauty package from a spa, which includes one session of microdermabrasion. Β As I am a bit skeptical about using chemicals on face/hair, I don’t go for even bleach/facials and before I skip microdermabrasion (though I have already paid for it πŸ˜› ) from my package, I would like to know its pros and cons, whether I should go for it or not, what say? I am 44 years old, having Oily-Combination Skin, which is generally treated by DIY packs. Share your gyaan and help me take the decision..Thanking in advance.. πŸ™‚

  1. Hi Shilpaaaa, I don’t think there’s any harm in undergoing microdermabrasion. I have read that microdermabrasion sloughs off the upper layer of skin to reveal smooth skin and get rid of mild scarring, but do check out what kind of crystals your spa people are using πŸ™‚

  2. Thanx a Lot IMBB Gang for posting my query ekdum fataafat.. πŸ˜€

Jhillmilllll & Nehaaa..I also believe that its intense exfoliation..but pehil baar going for such elaborate procedure which includes chemicals..so wanted to know risks associated with it.Its written in the package that it will be Diamond Peeling..But I doubt..that too seriously πŸ˜€ Am also waiting for replies frm beauties of IMBB who have undergone this treatment.. Thanx πŸ™‚

    1. Diamond dermabrasion…..sounds good, lekin haan, as Richa said, if you have sensitive skin, don’t try it. They use crystals it seems and its done by some equipment I guess πŸ™‚

      1. Not many xperiments on skin…so am not sure @ it sensitivity..Lage haatho uska bhi pata chal jaayega..If I go for Microdermabrasion.. πŸ˜€

  3. Hi Shilpa..
firstly check what sort of crystal is being used and is ur beautician a Pro in such treatments..
I got mine done by a dermatologist and this is my opinion.
The upper layer of ur skin will be scrubbed off with a wand like device.it takes genrally som 45-60 mins.It helps in treating ur acne marks..but you may need to complete atleast 3-4 sittings por what ur derma suggests..I jus did one and I was lazy to go back again. But the 1st sitting had shown slight difference on my acne marks..
I felt my skin rough aftr the session and I was prescribed a facewash and I was advised not to walk out in the sun without a sunscreen..for two days i dint step out during day time..
with so many dos and dont’s..and me being lazy,i never took the 2nd sitting..
but I’m sure regular microdermabrassion sessions might have some effect.
You may give a try..I found it totally comfortable and safe..

    1. Thanx a lot Rama for sharing your xperinece in detail. Lemme go for one session & its result will encourage/discourage me for further sessions.. πŸ™‚

  4. Dermabrasion is usually safe when done from an expert dermatalogist. As Jomol said it removes off the upper layer of skin to reveal smooth skin and gets rid of the mild scarring. But if you have sensitive skin then you should be very cautious. Also you shouldnt go out in the sun immediately after the treatment

      1. Thanx a lot Richa & Jomol for your suggestion. As I replied to Jomol..I dun have much idea @ sensitivity of my skin, but 2-3 times I bleached & I din’t get any reaction/rashes. Lets see how Microdermabrasion is treating me. After reading these replies..I am feeling tempted to go for one session atleast πŸ™‚

  5. I just want to ask is microdermabrasion should be started from which age? As I don’t have any idea about it πŸ™

  6. nothing harmful in microdermabrasion u can say deep scrubbing n skin polishing. It’s a advance method of remove upper dead skin layer spl only 1 session is normal for blemishes n other scars need few sessions
