This perfume has been with me for almost a year. It has been in the market for thirteen years now.

The bottle is an ordinary square glass bottle with an adorable silver cap. The cap fits well, and if you twist it around, it reads “Ralph Lauren Romance”.
This is my bottle of Romance.

The below picture is my attempt to capture the strawberry lemonade coloring of the perfume itself. As you can see, I didn’t do a very good job 😛

When I first sniff the bottle, I can smell a mix of Windex, red rose (think Yardley 🙂 ) and ginger. But don’t let that put you off! 🙂
Upon spraying it on myself, it evolves into a stereotypically classic “rich-lady” scent. You know the type – the kind who sit at a country club and sip tea and eat pâté. Note that I said stereotypically 🙂

You need very little of it at one time. It has amazing staying power as well. If you spray it on in the morning, it lasts the whole day, and you can still smell it on your clothes after they go through the washing machine and the dryer. :haanji:

From browsing through online reviews, I noticed that this is one of those perfumes that smell completely different on different people. It reacts differently with different people’s body chemistry. Turns out that’s why a minority of the reviewers found it awful smelling and said they would never recommend it to anyone. :/
I personally didn’t mind the perfume on myself, but I definitely would not want this to be my ‘signature’ scent. I steer more toward fruity, fresh fragrances. This one has a ‘mature’ and elegant tone. Romance is more suited for an evening event, or for a formal business setting.
This is an advertisement for Romance.

Do not be fooled by the various floral notes listed. :nono: This is not your typical floral scent. I would not wear this during the day, although a tiny spritz of it will be quite nice in a formal setting, as I said above.

This is marketed as a sexy, timeless, romantic scent. It is all those things, but my personal version of sexy is something more playful and fresh, and not something so deep and rich. 🙂 Thus, I use this when I have a meeting, or when I want to feel more grown-up. :secret2:
A word of caution though – don’t spray too much on. One spritz, at the most two, is more than enough, or else you run the risk of smelling like you doused yourself in it.

The 3.4 fl.oz. (100ml) bottle retails online for $70 to $130. You can find it for even lower on Ebay or Amazon.

Younger women can wear this (I do!) but this would flatter older women the best.

I would recommend this to those looking for a fragrance that is heavy, musky, elegant and a classic. I don’t suggest this to those who want something light, fruity-floral, or citrusy. I hardly ever use this as is evident from the pictures 😛 , but that is in no way a sign that this smells even remotely horrible. I really like this perfume, but it is, sadly, just not my cup of tea.

    1. Why the wilt? 🙂 Do try this, but sniff the testers at the store first. It is a nice smell, just not one I would personally go for. :))

    1. On the basis of the look? :nababana:
The whole point of perfume is to smell good :))
Of course sometimes they just tempt us with all those gorgeous bottles! :stars:

  1. i have this… i dont like it at all… it mells way too typical and and toooo sweet and heavy…. my bottle thus remains tucked away in the cupboard… :wilt: :wilt: it was a gift and only for sentimental purposesi pray it sometimes

  2. Even I prefer fruity fresh fragrances – but would like to try this one.
I love the way you have described the classic “rich-lady”…..i could visualise as I was reading.. 😉

  3. Great descriptions Samantha! :)) Couldn’t agree more with you on this. Romance smells just like that to me…cleaning product when first sprayed, then turns more into rich lady perfume. If you like fresh and fruity, you should try Acqua di Gioia, would love to know what you think of it. :))

    1. I know, right? 😀
I will look at Acqua di Gioia the next time I go perfume shopping, Ida! It does sound bliss :methinks:
