This review is about a product which I use on a daily basis for my makeup application. Without this product, I feel my makeup application process is incomplete and is of poor finish. It is a makeup application sponge by the brand “Real Techniques” and although this sponge is specifically meant for face contouring, I use it for more than that and so far it has not disappointed me.

My Experience with Real Techniques 4 Miracle Contour Wedges:
Till I bought this product, I was using the Miracle Complexion sponge for my every day makeup application, but since the longevity of these sponges is barely a couple of months at best, I decided to buy these 4 wedges instead because I realized that the material of the two sponges is same even though the shape is different. It is also important to note that if you think about cutting the Miracle Complexion into half, you wouldn’t get two equally good sponges, instead you would end up with two very unusable sponges, so it is better to go for smaller sponges than spending your time in trying to modify them – learnt it after a bitter experience 😛
These 4 wedges come in a sturdy, plastic packaging which is good for storing the sponges while they wait their turn 😛 They are bright pink in color and have a round, dome shape. Every inch of dome surface area can be put to good use because of its unique shape. The tip can be used for dedicated application of product, like the sides of nose or hollows of the cheeks, or inner corner of the eyes or under-eye area. The flat side can be used to apply loose powder under the eyes, around the nose and to highlight jawline to accentuate the contour. The round side can be used for blending and buffing of the products, although I personally use the flat side to apply and blend cream products and then use the same side again to pick up loose powder and “bake” my face.
The product is reasonably priced, but it still hurts when the sponge starts to crack after a month of usage. Although the brand advises to replace it after every 3-4 months, I find that they last barely 2 months; after that, they seem to not perform as well. I wash my sponges every day before I use them to apply my makeup. I used gentle dish washing soap to do so and it leaves my sponge squeaky clean.
Pros of Real Techniques 4 Miracle Contour Wedges:
- These 4 wedges come in a sturdy, plastic packaging which is good for storing the sponges while they wait their turn.
- We get 4 wedges for $10.
- They are good to apply and blend cream products (foundation, cream contour and highlighter) and are also good for loose powder (face “baking”).
- They are easily available online and at most beauty supply stores.
- Each sponge will last for a couple of months.
- They are bright pink in color, easy to clean with a gentle dish wash soap.
Cons of Real Techniques 4 Miracle Contour Wedges:
- They do not last for 3-4 months (as per the website). They will last for a couple of months each.
- It takes longer to apply base makeup using this sponge as compared to the complexion sponge because the former is smaller, but it is a con only if they are used for that purpose. For contouring, they are perfect.
I love these sponges. They are perfect for my makeup needs and my pocket. I highly recommend it to all those who use sponges for their makeup application.
