Real Techniques Sculpting Brush Review

A big hello to all my beautiful friends 😀

I am back after a looong time. Yeah, I was busy doing nothing. 😛 Anyway, today I have got a Real Techniques brush for you all – the Real Techniques Sculpting Brush. This is one of the latest additions to the RT brush collection.
Contouring and sculpting is in rage now a days. I had never tried my hand on it earlier as I was scared that I won’t get it right, but after watching numerous videos on youTube, I gained a little bit of confidence. But I didn’t want to splurge on some super pricey brush and as luck would have it, Real Techniques launched its Sculpting Brush. We all know RT brushes are really good – quality wise and are easy on pocket too. So, I didn’t think twice before picking this brush. I have this brush for almost 2 months now and I feel I can give my honest opinion about it. 😀

My Experience with Real Techniques Sculpting Brush:

Let us start with the packaging – the brush I have is a part of the Real Techniques Collector’s Edition Sculpting Set which is a limited edition set, but the brush is available on it own as well and is also a part of the permanent line. The brush is metallic pick and shiny, just like their bold metal collection brushes and definitely stands out in my brush collection. The shiny packaging is just for the brushes that are part of the sculpting set. The standalone brush has a matte pink finish like other face brushes from the permanent line.

The brush is around 6 inches in size. The handle is thick but pretty lightweight and easy to hold during application and comfortable to use. The brush is very dense and the synthetic teklon bristles are nicely packed and soft on the skin. The bristles are cut at an angle which fit perfectly under the cheekbones and are dense enough to blend away the lines and give a flawless finish.  The handle has a flat bottom, so the brush would stand on the dresser, but at the same time, it takes up a lot of space in my brush holder. 🙁

The brush washes well and since the bristles are synthetic, it even dries well. I have washed it numerous times in the past 2 months and it has not shed any bristle so far apart from a couple in the first wash. It gets cleaned easily using a brush cleanser as well.

The brush, being dense, picks up a lot of product and hence it is always advisable to go with a light hand. The first time I used it, it picked up so much product, I ended up looking like a clown. Well, I was just trying it out and wasn’t going out anywhere, so starting again didn’t bother much. Now, with continuous usage, I am better at using the brush and know how to make it work, but I would advise to go light-handed with this brush, especially beginners like me. It works well with both – the cream and powder products.

The brush is a multi-tasker, as other great techniques brushes as well. I have used it for applying foundation, contouring, applying bronzer and even blush. And it performs well in all the departments. The angle makes it easier to apply foundation at the tricky areas like sides of the nose. So you can apply foundation and straight away use the same brush with cream contour as well 🙂

Pros of Real Techniques Sculpting Brush:

  • Lovely pink packaging.
  • Synthetic bristles – cruelty free.
  • Multitasker – can be used for foundation, blush, bronzer application as well.
  • Densely-packed bristles.
  • The angled brush head fits in the contours of the face perfectly.
  • Blends products flawlessly.
  • Easy to clean.
  • Washes and dries well.
  • Great brush for beginners like me.
  • Value for money.

Cons of Real Techniques Sculpting Brush:

  • Picks up too much product in one go.
  • Large handle, takes up too much space in brush holder.

Would I Recommend/Repurchase Real Techniques Sculpting Brush?
I just got into contouring and and I find that this brush is perfect for applying the darker shades under the cheeks. It fits perfectly right under the cheek, so that even someone who has never done contouring before can easily do it. Definitely worth picking up and trying out. I may pick it up again as it is a great multi-tasker.

  1. It is a really good looking brush Bakul. I have not ventured into contouring yet, but would love to get this one on your recco when I do. 🙂
