Redken Smooth Down Butter Treat Smoothing Treatment Review

Hey everyone!

For the past two years, I have been lightening my hair. Of course as much as I love the results, it dries my hair out.  I plan on getting my hair “ombre-d,” which will definitely dry it further more! Before I used to dye my hair, I used to use the good old amla oil.  But Amla oils darken your hair, so I figured it was time to find something different.  I decided to pick up two hair masks that I can use so my hair doesn’t look fried up. Today, I will be reviewing the Redken Smooth Down Butter Treat Smoothing Treatment.

My Take on Redken Smooth Down Butter Treat Smoothing Treatment:

Let’s begin with the packaging, I LOVE IT! I have tried a few hair masks and oils, and what I despise the most is the tub-like container. Hair masks in tubs get so messy, and for oils, it is just messy pouring it in your hand. The squeeze bottle is perfect. The product comes out in a thick consistency. It is literally body butter, but for your hair. The scent itself isn’t anything special. To me, it smelled like most hair products. It did not have a strong chemical smell, so that was good.

You begin with shampooing your hair as usual, and then apply this product to your hair. I leave it on for about 5-10 minutes, then rinse it off. The first time, I applied this product ALL over my hair. When my hair dried, it actually felt really greasy.  I really wanted this product to work, so the second time, I put this product just on the bottom half of my hair and after my hair was dry, IT FELT GREAT. It felt very soft and smooth. It was easy to comb through my hair afterwards too. I wouldn’t recommend replacing your regular conditioner with this product. Personally, I would use this maybe every 2 days to make sure my hair is still moisturized.

Overall, I was quite pleased with this product. My hair color was not affected by this product which is something I am always worried about. My hair afterwards feels so soft and bouncy, and the most important part is that it looks healthy! I know dying my hair isn’t the best thing to do, but I am glad this product really brings the life back to my hair. I would recommend this product to anyone who has dry, damaged hair due to hair coloring and even if you have frizzy, dry hair.
