Basically wrinkle treatment can broadly be classified into the following categories:

Cosmetic Treatments

These treatments include:

1) Botox: It is the most common used procedure to remove facial wrinkles worldwide. It takes about only15 minutes and few tiny facial injections to relax a muscle just under the wrinkle and fade it away. Significant improvement on the face is seen within 7 to 14, which can last upto 4 months. Given the time it takes and results it provides millions of people across the globe go for this treatment. But with the benefits come the side effects to which include blurred vision, dry mouth, fatigue, headaches, allergic reactions, swelling or redness at the injection site. Some of these side effects last for about a week and some may wear off in around 6 weeks. Before going for this treatment a proper consultation with a reputed doctor is a must.

2) Chemical Peel: As the name suggest this procedure requires a chemical solution to remove the upper layer of the skin through gentle exfoliation which in turn improve the texture of the skin.

3) Dermabrasion: In dermabrasion the top layer of the skin is scrapped away using an electrically operated device. After the treatment the skin is smoother and more radiant. However this procedure is not effective for deep wrinkles and lines. The side effects of dermabrasion include scarring and permanent change in skin colour.

4) Laser Resurfacing: This is the latest treatment for getting rid of facial wrinkles. In this treatment the damaged skin is removed layer by layer using a carbondioxide laser resulting in lesser problems with hypopigmentation i.e. lightening of the skin. It is also called as laser peel or laser vaporization.

Medical Treatments

1) Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs):  They are derived from milk and fruit sugars and due to their ability to penetrate in the skin quickly they are used in numerous skin care products. Glycolic and lactic acids are most commonly used AHAs. Once applied they react with the upper layer of the skin and allow the formation of the new skin cells resulting in firmer and smoother skin.

2) Vitamins A acids: Creams containing Vitamin A are also useful for the correction of wrinkles. While redness and peeling may occur at first but if the treatment is continued under a supervised medical guidance then it may produce good results for the skin.

Natural Remedies

These are targeted more towards prevention than treatment of facial wrinkles:

1)Mixture of honey, cream and olive oil applied on the skin helps in the prevention of wrinkles.
2)Lemon juice applied on the skin several times a day also helps in fading away lines and blemishes.
3)Mix turmeric with sugarcane juice and apply this paste on skin for few minutes.
4)Don’t over wash your face as it will strip the skin of the natural oils and will lead to the appearance of fine line.
5)Avoid smoking at it reduces the blood supply in the skin which in turn causes wrinkles.
6)Eat a balanced diet and drink a lot of water daily.
7)Use moisturizer and never ever forget to put on a sunscreen before stepping out in the sun.

Prevention is always better than cure and by taking the proper care of our skin we can definitely stay beautiful for longer. What do you say?
