Ren Wake Wonderful Night-Time Facial Review

Hello Lovely Ladies,

Here’s another fairly new brand under review today. This product is from Ren, I think this brand was introduced to IMBB by Neetu when she reviewed their Cleansing Gel. I will be reviewing their leave-in treatment – the REN Wake Wonderful Night Time Facial. It’s from their “Radiance” range. Let’s find out more about this product.

Product Description:
Which skin type is it good for?
✔ Normal
✔ Oily
✔ Combination
✔ Dry

What it is:
A transforming overnight treatment with glycolic and lactic acids that softens fine lines, deeply hydrates, and refines skin to reveal a glowing, renewed complexion by morning. Solutions for dullness and uneven texture, fine lines and wrinkles. Uneven skin tone. Created for sleep-cheaters, busy moms, and jet-setters, this lightweight overnight treatment serum works in three phases to even skin tone, visibly reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and hydrate while you sleep. Lactic and glycolic acids resurface uneven texture, smooth fine lines and wrinkles by supporting natural cell turnover, and reduce surface pigmentation. Glycogen, magnesium, and arctic blackcurrant seed oil energize, revitalize, and nourish, while sodium lactate gently raises the skin’s pH and pulls water into the skin to plump and deeply hydrate. Wake up to brighter, refined, and hydrated skin by morning.  It is formulated without parabens, sulfates, phthalates.

My Experience with Ren Wake Wonderful Night-Time Facial:

My standard skin type information – I have oily to combination skin which gets dull and dehydrated very easily – due to my lousy eating habits and my horrid sleeping patterns. I am constantly on the look out for something to improve radiance and increase hydration. Also, being on the wrong side of 30s, has set me thinking about bolstering my skincare regime – address the acne spots, sun damage, etc. Hence, the foray into skincare.

Like I mentioned in my previous review on Biologique Recherché Lotion P50, I wanted to enhance my skincare routine, but wasn’t able to find the desired products locally. Yes, there is always the option of buying online – from retail sites or from retail outlets who ship internationally. The concern of course was the fact – what if the product does not suit you? After all, skincare products aren’t really cheap! You may be okay paying that amount as long as the product works for you – but without testers and samples, how do you figure it out. Luckily for me, common sense prevailed and I dug into my samples drawer. Samples drawer is the place where all the GWP/samples/testers go – to die a slow death because though I love my GWPs, I have realized that I rarely use them. So, in my sample drawer, I found a sachet of REN Wake Wonderful Night Time Facial from my May Sephora US haul. Initial reaction – Yay! a skin care sample to try – of just the kind of product I was looking for – though I had never heard of the company. Second thought – 2 ml! Seriously??? What will I deduce in that?

Anyhow, try I did! That 2 ml sample was actual good for 2 uses! Surprise! Surprise! And the bigger surprise – I just needed to use it only once for me to know, I wanted the full size product.

Packaging: The product comes packaged in a 40 ml pump tube with a transparent cap. The tube comes housed in a cardboard box. The sad part – there is no tamper-proof seal, which I think is a must, especially for skincare products. The packaging otherwise is fuss free and functional. I’ve had no issues with the pump dispenser or it getting messy or something. The pump dispenses out very little amount at one time. It’s easy to travel with.

Texture: The product itself is extremely lightweight – almost like a serum. It is easy to spread and absorbs rapidly into the skin. The fragrance is fairly off putting – not intolerable and it does dissipate fairly quickly.

Product Experience:  The first few times that I had used this product, there was a distinct stinging sensation – not a burning sensation, but more like a number of tiny needles piercing all over your face at the same time. Now that my skin has got more used to it, the stinging has gone down drastically and happens only after about 5-10 seconds post application and is fairly gone by the 2-minute mark.

So, the instructions regarding application on REN site (and the box are different) from the ones on Sephora. As per Sephora site, you should use the product on cleansed skin – before applying serum. While as per REN, you should use this on cleansed skin, post applying your serum.

How do I use it? I generally use it as the first step on cleansed skin. When I use it, I skip the serum. You don’t really need to apply moisturiser after this – since the product is supposed to help with hydration too, but I generally do add a moisturizer/oil/combination of both – but after about 15-20 minutes of applying this – in order for it do its magic.

Another thing – the use of toner with it. Generally, toner was the step I would most easily skip and that’s exactly what I do when I am using this product. In case I feel the need to go over my face with a toner, post cleansing, I prefer to use a hydrating toner than an acid one. Why? This product is extremely potent (just like Lotion P50). In which case, using a toner with it, might be an over kill. And trust me on this! I speak from experience because once was enough – I did use my Peter Thomas Roth Acid Toner before going in with this. The sensation my skin felt for the next few minutes – till the time I doused my skin with Vichy Aquaria Thermal Night Spa Sleeping Mask – is something I’m not likely to forget in a long time! So beware! And I never ever use this in conjunction with my P50!

Efficacy: I never could believe that a product can show overnight results, but this one is quite an eye opener. I am so so glad to have tried that Sephora sample. The product works three fold:

  • With Glycol Acid and Lactic Acid as active ingredients, the product helps with Chemical exfoliation and cell renewal process of the skin.
  • Glycogen, Magnesium and Omega 3 help the repair and nourish the skin – revitalising it.
  • Sodium lactate raises skin’s pH and helps with moisturization and plumping of the skin.

The fact that it doesn’t just do chemical exfoliation but also soothes, repairs and hydrates the skin – is the brilliance of this product. So, you don’t get up with tight, dry, itchy skin. Instead, what you get in the morning is fresh, baby soft, clearer, plumper skin. Your skin looks more even toned and refreshed. I actually end up touching my skin again and again.

How often should one use this: As per REN, a couple of times a week is sufficient. I agree! Honestly, if you use it only once a week, that is good. More than twice a week, may be too much for your skin to handle.

IMBB Rating:
5/5
I’m gonna steal the tag line from the Olay commercial here. This is “genie in a bottle” – well, not in a bottle, but a tube instead. This product is super amazing. I am so glad I discovered it, even if by accident. It’s fab on so many levels:

  • 3 in 1 product – exfoliate, repair and hydrate.
  • Literally slap on and sleep – no residue on face.</l
  • Actually gives result overnight, with just one use.
  • Perfect for busy professionals or over worked moms or just someone who isn’t get-ting too much sleep or doesn’t have too much time for skincare routine.

One word of caution, please do a patch test before using this…it is quite potent.

  1. OMG! K this sounds like a music, dancing everything to ears. I am so checking out their skin care range. Absolutely loved the detailed review. And thanks a ton for the review. This one is a gem! 🙂

  2. rapairs and hydrates!! sound like a great product. As usual a great review KK!! you are right on trying the products before splurging on products. Last time I bought Missha snail mask, Time revolution essence and serum together, just because of the great reviews it had on various international blogs. but those products does nothing to my skin more than moisturizing . that too the products feel so sticky, that I hate to use them in any season other than winter. what a waste of money 🙁
