Sital Asks:

Hello to all IMBBians.

Once again I am putting up my query and I really need everyone’s help. I am in my mid 20’s. My problem is I always end up buying WRONG clothes and always left without any proper clothes. I really need to revamp my wardrobe, whenever I shop I buy clothes and accessories that I never ever wear, I really am damsel in distress in terms of proper wardrobe, my mother also scolds me for buying wrong clothes. Though I help my friends and family to choose good ones but when it comes to myself, I become a big loser and ends up wearing same cloth everywhere from funeral service to dating.. πŸ™ So everyone please suggest me to have “right” kinds of clothes for right kind of occasions.

  1. Hi Sital!

You should first analyze your body type and then choose clothes.
Empty out your wardrobe and analyze what clothes have you never ever worn. See to it why and take lessons.
Your best bet can be to choose clothes that have lycra or spandex as part of the composition so that they give you a very good fit.
Try wearing solid colors. Buy bottoms in neutral shades.
Get 3-4 pairs of footwear : Black, Red, White, Beige in different styles. If Black is a gladiator, Red can be a pump. The idea here is since you choose neutral color bottoms, your footwear will match to them.
I have always maintained a low accessory profile because I dont want to invest heavily in such things. I only choose black or metallic in accessories.
Rather spend on statement pieces like a good watch.
Also, there is no end to buying cosmetics. Choose just basic ones but yeah manage your hair well. Proper hairdo transforms you look : Completely!
I hope you get somewhere now!

  2. i think more importantly its very important to some basics in the wardrobe depending on your preferance –

    blue jeans
    white shirt
    black shirt
    kurtis/colored kurtas
    different colored tights/salwarr/churidars
jewelry – small studs, hoop earrings and some very indian type if you like wearing indian clothes, a choker, long chain
shoes – black/N*de colored heels and flat chappals
    black trousers
    sarees – chiffons
    stole
    bag/clutch

thing is that make sure all that you buy fit you well. you can mix and match your clothes and your jewelry. if you are at a loss for wat colors suit you, you can start off with some basic colrs like blacks and blues and team them up with jeans, salwars initially. as you get more confident, you can try different combinations and be on your way..

i think the list itself is really long..:)

  3. I do the same buying wrong clothes, So I always take my mom with me, she is the best to decide what suits me, since she is getting old now, she couldnt come with me often and i am ending up with wrong clothes again πŸ™ ..

i would advise you to take a friend with you while shopping, also go for Shops which has Trial Rooms (now almost all has) and then ask for you friend’s advise.. Take your time before buying..

Rest follow what other IMBB fellows are saying πŸ™‚

  4. This is the question which also haunted me everytime. I have become a wise buyer now.
Depending on your figure, skin color and height, we can select variety of clothes in large color variations. Some tips from my side on types of wears/colors, etc – as you are in your 20’s you have wide range of options.
    1. Have a collection of jeans/codrouys. Blue/black/beige/white. whatever colors you prefer. You can also have faded jeans.
    2. Leggings in various colors and matching kurtis. you can mix n match.
    3. Types of salwar-kameez. Patiala, chudidar, simple dress.
    4. If you like skirts, you can wear long skirts.
    5. 3/4th jeans/ capris.
    6. Have functional dresses in anarkali style and the running fashion ones for functions like parties/pooja/friends functions/etc.
    7. Sarees

Have matching or complimentary accessories as per your outfits. You can buy common accessories which can go with more than 1 outfit.

  6. even i used to do the same things.. my sister has great choice and only recently i improved a bit..she has an awesome collection..i buy and regret and then wear the same old thing…now learning due to IMBB n other beauty blogs πŸ™‚

  7. 1) Know ur body type and some sites are there which suggest what suits your asset best – are you apple shaped/pear shaped/hourglass …slim/athletic/average etc. This helps u decide dress you would look best in or will complement ur body.
    2) There are lot of clothes varieties available, we all get confused, key is experimenting with them:
    – jeans always suit (choose basic shades black, blue, faded ) visit some store maybe levis ask SA to show u latest trend and try that out am sure u pick right collection.
    – see how skirts, western outfits look on u/indian wear , experiment and try – are u comfortable with it the fit and looks , see some models display how they have dressed her u’ll get some idea from that too. If u can carry well everything will look good then , keep it simple at first.
    – now the colors ..keep stock of some white, black, pink , red, floral prints in your wardrobe they always look good.
    – can accessorize lil bit but keep it simple.

  8. hi well wrong choice of clothes is the probs of every girl right from sonam kapoor to girl next door so dont worry it happens
before jumping in which kind of clothes first of all reckon whats wrong with ur choice of clothes is it the color or is it the shape or the prints thats wrong………
may be ur choice is good but it doest suits ur body shape thats where the majority girls go wrong
look at your body shape ur height and then decide accordingly

for example if ur petite u should opt for one color scheme chose vertical lines and v collar suits very well pants with straight legs the fitted colthes are best high heel peep toes are best……..avoid large prints avoid minis large belts and oversized bags

for large busted woman horizontal lines are sin chose vertical stripes instead…….chose scope neck and square neck…… wrap dress empire-line cut dress and the dress that first defines the bust is best…..chose 3/4 sleeves…anarkali suits…..loose and spanky tops are best and wear over sized bags…..avoid layered clothes

if ur skinny then go for layered clothes chose tights and well fitted clothes opting snarkali suit may not be good option as at the end of the day u may look like an hanger instead go for fitted kurta and leggings or fitted churidaar

for the heavy bottom never rely on tights

then wear light clothes where ur lighter and dark where ur heavier suppose have a heavy bust chose dark shirts and light pants in similar manner if ur heavy at bottom chose dark color pants and lighter tops

then chose the clothes acording to ur skin tone
for example dark skin avoid grey choclate brown it dont do any great to it instead chose red
white royal blue pink all vibrant colors look great

for the medium skiined soft an feminine color do great

experiment but stick to ur color pallete as chosing other color will turn u pale and ugly

then chose the color according to the season and according to day and night wear…….

so while the shape and skin tone play important factor in deciding ones style some dresses are universal and essential in every woman wardrobe thesere

a white shirt (for indian woman substitute it with white chicken top)

a basic blue jeans with straight legs

    black pants

    little black dress

    a white dress

    maxi

floral dress (chose prints according to ur type)

    stripe top /tanks

    colored denims

    for indian woman

white chicken churidaar suits ( its just equal to little black dress can be safely worn from party to shradh)

a vibrant anarkali suit (for skinny go for vibrant fitted kurti and churidaar)

a red banarasi /silk saree (great option for unmarried and married woman)

a plain chiffon saree (be chandini may chose basic like red black or white or opt for blue yellow pink)

a dual tone saree in pink ( must have)

white silk/cotton saree with plain borders (go for the borders like black golden or red border but its must have)

    uber sleek black saree

cotton or chiffon patialas with jhuti (its really head turner)

next keep ur skin hydrated and glowing invest in right shoes
    high heels peeptoes
    high platforms
mojiris are must have for indian women

and lastly wear ur confidence alonwith ur clothes and dont forget the killer smile

    i hope it helped

  9. Hi Sital! πŸ™‚ First of all I will say is choose those cloths in which you will feel comfortable. That’s the key. No matter how cute or fashionable your cloths r ..we always tend to wear whatever we feel comfortable. So that you won’t be wasting your money. For example I love red color…but I can’t carry it off. I am scared to wear red..it’s too loud for me. So I never buy red ..no matter how much I like it on display. Second thing is get to know your body shape and analyze which cloths you don’t feel comfortable on your body or you get conscious wearing them. Avoid those type of cloths. Being an Indian has it’s own advantages. We can wear traditional cloths as well as western or we can match desi+western cloths..permutations combinatins haan!!! πŸ™‚ So comes the mix and match. You can buy patialas, chudidars, leggings (black, white, beige and some colored ones) and wear lots of different kurtis, tunics with them. Same goes for Jeans. Buy some staple jeans ( black, Dark washed, light washed even colored ones are ‘in trend’ right now) and experiment with tops, tunics. If you think you have some tops/tunics/shirts that you are not comfortable wearing them by their own invest in some cardigans or denim jacket and you can get use out of those unused clothing pieces. Layering is always a good option. About accessories.I ll again suggest wear whatever you feel comfortable and confident in. Simple and elegant is my way of wearing accessories. Finally invest in a good watch and good quality make up πŸ™‚

  10. Hi Sital,

1.Empty your wardrobe and group them into traditional wear, western wear etc.
2.Decide which color suits u the most and also check whether u choose the same color over and over again
3.Get basics like Aruna mentioned. jeans pant, anarkali suits and few elegant sarees.
4.Examine the clothes which u never wear. It might be the color, cut or texture. Avoid buying them in future.
5.Finally take a gud critic with u…while u shop. Also find ways to use the clothes u never wore.

  11. I am taking notes of all these tips! I too face a similar problem, me too 20! Always buy wrong clothes, mom yells, go back to my old-comfy clothes..same same Sital! :X πŸ˜‰
But now I am trying to collect some basics. πŸ™‚

  12. Same pinch beingpretty and thnks to Ashna, Manu and sudha.. love you girls, was outta town for work… so thanks and i m beginning to change some.. πŸ™‚ :
