My Experience with Revlon ColorStay Active Light Makeup with SPF 25:

This foundation is lying in my cupboard since the last 3 years (almost going to expire soon actually!!!! ) and I must have used it thrice only. Once for trial at home just after buying, second to a party and third for the Lakme peacock Quad look done here; the main reason being a no-makeup person that I am. The fact that I don’t like anything on my face that feels or looks heavy also has a lot to contribute. The moment I add a base to my face, it looks so fake and unnatural. I like my skin to be seen through whatever I put on my face. Actually, that was the main reason I got this in the first place, I read the light makeup stuff, and tried it on my hand and picked it off happily.

Here is a picture of my bare hand.

Here comes the swatch

See how it gives a no-makeup kind of look, but but but, only to my hands. Though it matched my skin tone perfectly on the hand, it looks quite ashy and fake on my face. I have to really work hard to make it look natural. I remember while getting ready for a party once, I was actually looking like a ghost with this on my face. I did not have much time, so what I did was applied some Lakme invisible finish Foundation (02) on top of this and surprisingly it worked perfectly.

I quite like the dewy look it gives, although, it is oil based, it is not at all oily and completely sweat proof and rub-proof. So, for those who want a long-lasting oil-free dewy look, this is a great buy, but please try it on your face before buying. It is not exactly liquid or cream, rather, it has a viscous intensity that blends nicely, but you have to be quick because it sets really fast. The coverage is sheer to medium, but definitely buildable if you want a full coverage (not conceal your dark spots or marks though!!!). It is not heavy, but it is not light either. It feels like you have put something on your face the whole time. This may vary with people who use makeup regularly.

Let me summarize my experience in what I liked and what I did not like about this.

Good Points About Revlon ColorStay Active Light Makeup

1. Has SPF 25, pretty good for a makeup base.
2. Easily blendable.
3. For all skin types. I have combination skin, but it doesn’t make my face oily ever.
4. Never broke me out.
5. Non-transferable/rub proof.
6. Don’t know about the 16-hrs claim, but lasts for 6-7 hours easily, may be more. Actually, I have never tested it for that matter.

Not-So-Good Points About Revlon ColorStay Active Light Makeup

1. Finding the right shade is very difficult with just 4 shades available.
2. Some may feel it a bit sticky just after application.

My Rating:

3 out of 5.

Final Word:

Depends on your personal liking actually. You can give it a try and see if it fulfills your requirement. I am not going to get it again for sure because I remember the next shade was a tad darker to my skin tone. So, no point buying this again. Will try MAC next when I feel the need for a makeup base.

  2. :thanks: for the review Jyo, you know I have the same problem with foundations, they look good on underside of hands but ashy on face, :yikes: :yikes: so now i prefer trying them on face only…. 😐

    1. Even same for me..

Might be hands and face doesnt have the same tone, thats y i think so..
even some lipsticks which looks good on my hand totally differs when i apply it on my lips

and :thanks: for your review jyo

    2. he he. i know. bt back thn i dint have that much idea nah abt makeup stuff. right now toh i dont need any foundation bt whenever i do i’ll make sure to chk it out on my face only. :))

  3. i am loving your piccys these days Jyo. I love that satiny cloth. :)) Revlon though is a littl expensive brand but most of the time it does get its things right. :))

    1. :thanks: Rati. u mean my night gown :giggle: :giggle: :giggle: yeah i agree on that point. whatever i’ve never had any bad experience with their product till date. :shy:

  4. Hi Jyo… the foundation looked reallly nice on ur hands.. and correctly matches ur skin tone..but didnt worked for ur face.. dont know why the SA prefer testing the products on hands when they behave differently for face :waiting: :waiting: :waiting:

  5. is this the same Revlon colorstay foundation tht pple rave about or is it sumthing else???
u have reviewed it very well jyo but still i ‘m confused as u just give a 3/5 rating but i ahve heard it as one of Revlon’s bestsellers.. u hav written tht its discontd.. so mayb i’m taking of another revlon colorstay then :methinks: :methinks: :methinks:

    1. no nids. it is still available in india. discontinued in other parts of the world. :haanji: :haanji: :haanji: it is the same i guess. i gave it 3 coz it still feels a little heavy to me and the shade to looks so bad on me :yikes: :yikes: :yikes: i’ve to use lakme wala on top of it as both of them has different consistency n they dont mix on hand…..itta sara pain lena padta hai na thats y.   bt if you r able to find your right shade then nothing like it O:) O:) O:)

      1. no poo.. photoready is a lil shimmery so i prefer tht for spl occasions sorts.. on a more daily basis, i like matte foundations like i’m using MF age renew rght now.. but heard a lot about revlon colorstay so was thnking of buying it next.. but Jyo made me think again..

        1. hey nids, i had read some great reviews abt this foundation as well, but i too got disappointed after buying…the problem is with their shade selection…it’s hardly suited for indian complexions…it just dint look natural on me 🙁

          1. nids- you are correct 🙂 You are thinking of revlon colorstay in a bottle. It comes in two variations- normal/dry and oil/combi skin. Lots of shades. I have the one in oil/combi skin and it is really good. feels light, looks natural and lasts all day. It is my day to day foundation. Revlon colorstay active is mostly discontinued everywhere actually and I think it was supposed to be worn for activities- like trekking, swimming etc…so that your makeup stays on ispite of all the sweating. It generally has only mediocre reviews, so Jyo’s review here agrees with MUA’s opinions.
Thanks Jyo for a nice review 🙂

            1. oh forgot to add Nids, do give revlon colorstay a chance. In my opinion it is the best drugstore foundation I have tried! If you know your MAC shade, you can research online to get an idea of what Colorstay shade suits you. Also the shades in oil/combi are different fro dry/normal even if they have similar sounding names. Infact I think there is a review of revlon colorstay in toast shade on IMBB itself! Rati, probably has better idea.also sorry for such a long comment!

                1. ohh thanxx a tonn mahima for clearing my doubt :thanks: :thanks: .. i too was also thinking how cum a product raved soo much get get an average rating…i am surely picking it i mean the other colorstay next 😉 …

  6. hey jyo! i have this in the same buff shade n you know what, it doesn’t suit my skin tone either.. :nababana: :nababana: :nababana: i hv strong yellow undertones n this one makes me look ghostly white n i agree with u that it isn’t very light…i can feel it sitting on the top of my skin. have used it only once to a party n i dunno what to do with the full tube anymore. cant even wear it in the mornings before going out for the day coz blending it is very time consuming 🙁 🙁 n it looks artificial.

  7. Jyo…I completely understand this review….I have so many foundations that have turned out in the same way as this one that you have reviewed :vampire: :vampire: :vampire:
