Revlon Coquette Colorburst Lacquer Balm Review

Do you make pre-conceived notions about a product before trying it? Well, sometimes I do. And, I don’t stop at that; I try to influence my near and dear ones also! I tried to do something similar with this product too and almost finished my review with my previous opinion. But, then two of my colleagues entered the scene and I asked them to try out this product. Both agreed to help me out and allowed me to take lip swatches too. We three ended spending 30 mins in the ladies wash room and came out with a solid review!

Product Description:

High Shine Lacquer. Moisture Rich Balm.

A lacquer finish that’s beyond brilliant, Balm that’s beyond comforting. Our Triple Butter Complex of Shea, Coconut and Mango butters nourishes lips.

Tip: For a polished and perfect lip look, apply foundation on and around the lips before lip color. Foundation helps to prep the lip area for a more flawless application and helps lip color last longer.

Price:

INR 800 fro 2.7 grams. I picked it up from Changi Airport, Singapore at $9.9 (Almost INR 500).

Packaging:

It has shiny pink packaging and a retractable chubby stick which carries the balm bullet. The outer packaging and inner balm is supposed to match each other in shade. They may not be a perfect match but it’s easy to search in your makeup stash.

My Experience with Revlon Coquette Colorburst Lacquer Balm:

Revlon Coquette Colorburst Lacquer Balm Review15

I am a lip balm addict. I need to keep smearing something on my lips every 2 hours. I try to buy balms with no tint or a light tint, as I don’t want a strong colour build up with every application. Also, since I spend a good number of hours in the office, I always prefer a colour that doesn’t scream for attention. That’s why I picked up this shade. It is the lightest of the entire Pink Lacquer Balms that Revlon offers.

If you see the swatches, it comes out very light in a single stroke. The mild smell and feel of the peppermint that you get after application feels very interesting. Even the two girls immediately said the word ‘mint’ after the first application. Its texture is very smooth and glides very easily on the lips.

Colour payoff is good with first application and the intensity can further be built up. It has tiny shimmer particles (nothing rough or gritty, though) and they spread evenly on lips. It also gives a glossy effect on application. We blotted our lips against a tissue and got rid of most of the tiny shimmer. Glossy effect did not get completely wiped out, though. I wiped the swatch that I had taken on my hand and was left with a pink smear. This implies that it leaves a stain even after the gloss and shimmer get vanished.

Since all three of us have different skin tones, I decided to include their pictures too in order to help you all take a more judicious call. What surprised me was that the overall effect looked very different on different skin tones and in different lights. The fairest girl got such lovely bright pink effects! Mine looked like a subdued pink in naural light. The girl with wheatish skintone got a subtle pink on her lips. We later asked a dusky complexioned girl too and it was hardly visible on her lips. We all agreed that it is a good shade to wear for regular use. The colour payoff for the girl with wheatish skintone and me improved as we layered it further.

Skintone in between these two (regular swatch, no napkin blotting). This was taken in natural light.

On longevity, I was left with a stain even after eating/drinking. However, the girl with wheatish skin tone lost almost all her lip colour by the time she finished having her tea. Maybe a warm liquid wipes off the colour much faster than regular or cold liquid.

Pros of Revlon Coquette Colorburst Lacquer Balm:

• Nice, subtle colour and convenient for office and everyday use.
• Glides comfortably on lips and does not settle into fine lines.
• Gives minty effect on application which vanishes after few minutes.
• Good and buildable colour pay off.
• Retractable and easy to use packaging.
• Travel friendly.
• Balmy effect remains at least till next 1 hour, without no eating/drinking.

Cons of Revlon Coquette Colorburst Lacquer Balm:

• Will not suit very dusky tones or highly pigmented lips.
• Is not an answer for dry, parched lips.
• Gets vanished with warm food/beverages.
• A bit pricey for an everyday lip balm.

Conclusion:

By the time we came out of the wash room, one of them was already excited to buy it ASAP. She even found it online, at a discount. Best thing was that our discussion helped clear her notion that a pink shade might not suit her, and she was pleasantly happy with the effects that this lip shade offers. I am convinced that it will suit a lot of skin tones and not just fair skin. Though, I feel it will look the best on fair skin.

IMBB Rating:

4/5

Would I Repurchase/Recommend Revlon Coquette Colorburst Lacquer Balm?

I will recommend it, especially to those who have very fair skin tone. Your lips will look lovely in this pink and it will flatter your skin tone very well. I would repurchase it only if I find it at a really good discount.
