Revlon Eyebrow Pencil – 01 Dark Brown Review

Hello ladies,

Today, I have for you a budget-friendly option for taking care of your brows. I feel that brows are the most neglected part of our face. I see so many beautiful pictures being uploaded on Facebook and all I want to do is to tell the person how much better her makeup would look if only the brows were filled in. It’s like they are the hangars for the whole face 🙂

So, I started doing my brows quite some time back. My first product was a brow powder – which I still think is the most effortless way to fill in the brows. Next, I tried the Anastasia Dip Brow which gives a way more “made up/defined look.” I kept away from brow pencils for a long time because certain faces (teachers from school) were etched in my brain 😛 Thankfully, we are in a different era now. We do know that using a black brow pencil is a cardinal sin! It has to be a deep brown to taupe colour – at least for us Indian skin toned gals. I finally took the plunge and got myself a MAC brow pencil – simple, efficient, and definitely more travel friendly than the powder or the dip brow. So, while shopping abroad at Watsons, I happened to come across some budget-friendly options of brow pencil and thought – why not?

Product Information:
I wasn’t able to garner product information on this one from any website. Looks like it’s a new release and that too for South East Asia. So in all probability, all info pertaining to this would be in local language of the country it has been floated in – like Thai, Korean, etc.  The pencil is made in Czech Republic.

Packaging:  The pencil packaging is minimalistic and efficient. It’s a brown coloured pencil with a golden cap. The cap also has a brow brush. There is no outer cardboard packaging, etc. The good thing was that there was an outer plastic sheet ensuring that the product cannot be tampered with.

My Experience with Revlon Eyebrow Pencil – 01 Dark Brown:

While browsing for an eyebrow pencil in the drugstore brands, I was surprised to see that only a couple of brands had any offerings in this category. There was a brand with a powder kit and with a brush. There was only Revlon and Kiko offering brow pencils. I was tempted to pick the KIKO one, since I had never tried the brand and their pencil was the retractable kind. However, it had two glaring cons – no brush or spoolie with it. The biggest con was that the pencil stick came without a cap!!! How does that even make sense?? Needless to say – without a cap – even their tester was all dried up.

Color:  The shade is a deep dark brown. There was only one colour available for purchase. I do not recollect seeing any other shade here. The colour works well for me. It darkens and fills in my scanty brows fairly efficiently. The colour is neither too dark, nor too light. It looks very natural. I think it will work well with almost all Asian skin tones.

Texture: The product itself is not too emollient, it’s on the dry side. I think that is to be expected from a brow pencil as they are supposed to stick around and not disappear and melt with heat and humidity.

Having said that, do note that it does not tug or pull the skin during application. The colour shows up easily on the skin. One thing which seemed great to me was that the pencil had a sharp pointed tip when I bought it. Even though I have used it a dozen times, I did not have to sharpen it. I am sure it will give me another dozen or more uses before I need to even think of sharpening the product. So, the pencil will last you a long time, which means more bang for your bucks.

Pigmentation: The pigmentation is great, it shows up easily and adds depth and dimension to my brows while looking very natural. I don’t really need to do multiple swipes.

Staying Power:  The pencil stays put for good 8 hours or so, pretty much the entire day for me.

The brush is a boon. Else, I always have to hunt for a spoolie. Once you have filled in your brows, just brush them with this – and you are good to go.

To sum this up for you:

Pros of Revlon Eyebrow Pencil – 01 Dark Brown:

  • Stays all day long.
  • Decent, minimalistic, efficient packaging.
  • Natural-looking shade.
  • Great texture.
  • Decent pigmentation.
  • Impressive staying power.
  • The tip holds shape for a long time – no need for frequent sharpening.
  • Good bang for the buck.
  • Travel friendly.
  • The brush works well for the purpose it is designed.

Cons of Revlon Eyebrow Pencil – 01 Dark Brown:

  • No cons for me.

At one point, I would have said that the fact that it needs to be sharpened is a con for me. However, I have learnt over time that sharpenable products make more sense – the creaminess is preserved for a longer time and also, maintaining hygiene is easier.

IMBB Rating:
4.5/5

I think it’s a very good product at a good price point.  It’s travel friendly, easy to use. I wish the product was readily available in all markets – it would surely fly off the shelves. I bought it a good 3 months back but procrastinated on using it, I was so comfortable with my powder and brush. However, while travelling out this time, I took a call to carry this instead, ensuring I don’t need to carry another additional brush, etc. This way, I had no choice but to use it and experiment.  So, this one goes permanently into my travel bag.
