Revlon HD Rose Quartz Ultra HD Lip Lacquer Review

Hi guys!

Out of all the drugstore brands, I feel Revlon makes some of the best and most affordable lip products. They have stood the test of time. Will this one too? Let us find out.

While a lip lacquer I think is something in between a lipstick and a gloss or even a combination of the two, this product definitely leans towards being a gloss than a lipstick or a lip lacquer in my opinion. I think the HD part of the name implies that it looks good even in HD because of the micro shimmer but it does nothing for me as I am an average person and not a makeup addict.

The HD craze has caught on to the drugstore brands and as well brands like NYX and ELF. They have put out a few HD products after Make Up Forever released theirs.

My Experience with Revlon HD Rose Quartz Ultra HD Lip Lacquer:

Packaging:
The lip product comes in a see through, sturdy plastic container with a silver top. The brand name is written on the silver cap and there is no other text anywhere except on the bottom. The cap has a nice diamond type design. It has a very simple and minimalistic design.

Shade:
The shade is a sparkly, slightly frosty, metallic, rosy pink. I am not a fan of metallic looking products on my lips personally. It looks metallic because of the micro shimmer in the gloss. Apart from the shimmer, the product has a very good pigmentation. When the light is not hitting it, it looks slightly deep mauve in color.

Formula/ Pigmentation:
This gloss has a good pigmentation, which surprised me because lip glosses generally are pretty subtle and sheer. When you first apply it, you will notice that it is so opaque that it covers your entire lip in one layer. Also, as the product sits on the lips and gets the heat from the skin, it turns a shade darker and matches the container. This is something I have not observed with any lip product before. If you give your swatch a light wipe with your finger, it looks more frosty and then if you let it sit, it will go back to being a darker shade. This is probably the weirdest aspect of the product.

This is quite sticky as well (contrary to what they claim). So, if you do not like sticky or tacky glosses, you will not enjoy this one. I think Revlon has done a good job on the formula except for the stickiness. The stickiness in a gloss may be a deal breaker for some. It is for me. I can see strings of the product, when I part my lips. This is the biggest con in the product. The micro shimmer meshes with the colour wonderfully. So, even when the light is not hitting the gloss, it looks very beautiful.

Texture:
The consistency is more on the thicker side. But, it feels very lightweight and comfortable on the lips. I have noticed some lip products with shimmer that when they fade, they leave behind a layer of shimmer. That does not happen with this product. It is also quite moisturising, so it can be worn alone. It does transfer but does not bleed. It does not sink into lip lines or exaggerate them either.

Applicator:
The applicator in this has a brush tip. The brush bends left and right as you drag it across the lips, which I am not a fan of. I would have preferred a doe foot applicator, simply because I am not used to using a brush applicator. But, this one definitely has its merits. It spreads the product better than a doe foot in my opinion and you can cover the entire lip in one long stroke. The brush tip also picks up a good amount of the product. You can apply 2 layers of the product and let it be very metallic-looking, if that is your preference. I have a love hate relationship with this brush tip, to be honest.

Staying Power:
The staying power on this is no different than a traditional gloss. It lasts about 3-4 hours if you are not eating or drinking. If you are eating or drinking, you will find it fades much quicker.

Would I Recommend Revlon HD Rose Quartz Ultra HD Lip Lacquer?
If you do not like sticky and thick lip glosses, I would recommend you stay away from this product. If you do not mind that, do give this product a try. Would I repurchase? No, because I don’t like sticky glosses.

  1. nay they look very disappointing and the other pink variant is all shimmery, pink sapphire . That too did not live up to its expectations ๐Ÿ™ maybe you give the creamy ones a try, I heard they are not very sticky on a comparative basis

  2. I was waiting for this product review in details and u did it. I am more into mattes but still like to hav one of it. The shade looks very pretty on you and also very well reviewed by you.?

    1. Same here Mariyam and I have very pigmented lips as you can see, but I can kind of make it work because it is opaque and has good pigmentation. And this is frosty and is not frosty at the same time. It’s so weird.

  3. Brush tip that long and flexible!!! not a good idea for drawing precise outline. It may spread the product evenly on the lips but ultimately not convenient. Also frosty metallic finishing is a bit difficult to carry and not suitable for most of the Indian skin tones. It is a big no-no atleast for me ๐Ÿ™
