Revlon Photoready Cream Blush – Coral Reef Review

Revlon Photoready Cream Blush – Coral Reef Review

While browsing through IMBB, I came across Sabrina’s article on Revlon Photoready cream blush and felt really really bad on reading it! Her experience with Revlon PhotoReady Cream blush made me realize how important it is for us to not just review great products but also the duds, so that our readers are warned about the product and do not end up wasting their money on it. I felt bad reading Sabrina’s article because I felt that had I done this review earlier, it would have saved her money and she could have got the NARS lipstick she wanted (like she mentioned in her  post!)

So, I bring to you a review on Revlon PhotoReady Blush in Coral Reef – I was about to pick two colours, but had finally picked just this one along with the Bobbi Brown Coral Calypso Pot Rouge for Lip and Cheeks (reviewed earlier on IMBB).

Product Description:

  • Creamy blush provides buildable, beautiful flush of color.
  • Lightweight formula with silky soft feel on skin.
  • Blends evenly over cheeks for smooth application.
  • Photochromatic pigments bend and reflect light to provide cheeks with a beautiful glow.

New Revlon PhotoReady™ Cream Blush was created by Global Artistic Director Gucci Westman for the Spring 2012 collection. Inspired by the glowing skin of a beach beauty, these silky cream blushes glide on smoothly provide a dewy flush of color for a healthy, gorgeous glow.

Expert Tips:

Using fingers or a brush, dab a small amount of cream blush on apples of cheeks. Apply 2-3 dots of color along cheekbones. Gently blend outwards across cheekbones and towards temple, using a patting motion to spread and blend the color. This will help create a natural looking flush of color that blends seamlessly into your skin.  Color is buildable from a sheer wash of color to a full flush of color. For a stronger pop of color, simply add another layer of color.  For longer-lasting color, you may choose to set it with a loose translucent powder, like PhotoReady Translucent Finisher.

Price:

300 Baht = About INR 600 – 630

Packaging:

Comes packaged in a plastic transparent pot with a black screw-on black lid. The pot comes encased in a cardboard box with a circular cut for you to be able to identify the colour.  The pot packaging is convenient for carrying; however, there is no mirror or applicator with it.

My Experience with Revlon Photoready Cream Blush – Coral Reef:

As the name suggests, the colour is indeed a beautiful coral leaning towards peach. However, that is all what is great with the product – the colour!

The texture is creamy but not very smooth. Refer the pictures to know how patchy it applies on the skin. You literally have to rub the product to get it on your fingers and even then it does not come off creamy. On the contrary, it comes off fairly patchy. Application is a further pain. Because it applies patchy, you need to make a lot of effort to blend. However, the more you blend, the more the colour disappears. So, start all over again.

Revlon Photoready Cream Blush - Coral Reef 4

Unlike Sabrina’s review, I did not find the product too oily. On the contrary, the product seemed very dry for a cream blush, refer the pictures for the patchiness with which it applies in the swatch. The difference in texture between the two products might have to do with inconsistency between shades or just a difference in batch.

The pigmentation is not great. A little will NOT go a long way. The more you blend, the more the product disappears. A couple of swipes of a tissue could make you start all over again.

Because of the lack of pigmentation and how easily it comes off, the staying power is dismal. On my oily skin, it lasts about 1.5-2 hours.

Revlon Photoready Cream Blush - Coral Reef 5

To sum this up for you:

Pros of Revlon Photoready Cream Blush – Coral Reef:

  • Lovely, natural-looking peachy coral colour.
  • Did not break me out.
  • Did not accentuate my pores.
  • Fragrance free.

Cons of Revlon Photoready Cream Blush – Coral Reef:

  • Difficult to get the product onto fingers because of the dry texture.
  • Low pigmentation – takes a number of swipes for product to show up on skin. The colour goes off if blended more.
  • Low lasting power.
  • Would need to do constant touch-ups and considering the tub does not come with a mirror, it would be difficult to do touch ups.
  • Texture is creamy, but dry and patchy.

Grande Finale:

IMBB Rating:

2/5

Honestly, I too cannot recommend this product to anyone. Colour looks absolutely fabulous in the pack – but that’s about all that it has going for it! If you really want to try cream blushes, I suggest you head to Bobbi Brown, Illamasqua or YSL.

The only thing I am thankful for is that I did not buy the pink variant which looked equally beautiful, but I am sure would have been equally dismal!

Have you ever been taken in my the appearance of a product to buy it and find it to be a total dud? Do share your experience through your comments.
