As a follow-up of my yesterday’s review of the Revlon PhotoReady Compact Makeup, today I’m reviewing the Revlon PhotoReady Powder from the same range. I bought this to complement the PhotoReady Compact Makeup, and also to use this over other foundations. I checked this Powder out at the stores quite a few times before finally taking the plunge. The first time I saw it, I saw all the shades laid out on the counter and the lighter shade than this and also the darker shade to this had such obvious shimmer particles which were completely visible to the naked eye, that I just skipped getting it. However, on other visits to the mall, I checked out this Light/Medium shade, and was really impressed. No obvious visible shimmer to it, and while the SA swatched this with the brush on my hand, I saw just a gentle, very, very light thin sheen which looked so good. So I decided to swatch this over the tester of the Revlon PhotoReady Compact Makeup and I saw such a soft, barely-there light-reflecting perfect finish. I was sold and I bought it! I was really impressed with the finish of this particular shade under review.

The packaging is the same as that of the Revlon PhotoReady Compact Makeup – a sturdy, black rectangular plastic casing, with a see-through lid so that the product can be seen. This comes with a cute little brush. My interpretation for this is that if it was applied with a puff, it would have given too much coverage – just a few light swipes are needed to cover the whole face – hence the brush. As with the Compact Makeup, there is a rectangular mirror on the inner lid.

I absolutely love the look this Powder gives on top of the PhotoReady Compact – a very, light, subtle reflective finish/light glow, but again, nothing too obvious or OTT. I have used this on top of L’oreal Matte Morphose Foundation too (which is totally matte), and it looks lovely again. I gently swipe the brush over the powder once or twice and then brush it lightly over my foundation. However, if too much is applied, then it gives a lot of extra shine, which I don’t like as I already have oily skin.

Pros of Revlon PhotoReady Powder

• Oil-free.
• Fragrance-free.
• Has SPF 14.
• Gives a soft, luminous finish.
• Photographs very well.
• Adds that extra ‘oomph’ to the skin, after applying on top of any foundation.
• Can also be used alone to give a natural dewy look.
• One-of-its-kind product amongst drugstore brands available in India.
• Suitable especially for normal, dry and even combination skinned folks.
• I found that this shade in particular is quite suitable for oily-skinned people.

Cons of Revlon PhotoReady Powder

• The other 2 shades (one lighter than this and one darker) may not be suitable for people who like a matte- finished look.
• Price is a bit on the high side.
• Quantity too is a less than the usual standard pressed powder size of 10g available in most other brands.
• If you apply too much, you will look like a fire-fly or a glow-worm!!
• Looks a little shiny on my oily skin after about 1 or 2 hours. (That’s why I use very less).

Rating: 4.50 on 5.

Regarding re-purchasing this, I just might. I was curious to try out this range and my curiosity has been fulfilled and I like this product. But I like the PhotoReady Compact Makeup better!

Verdict: A great product on the whole and very suitable for normal to dry skinners. Lives up to all its claims and gives a soft glow to the skin.
