Hey lovely ladies,
I thought if I am trying liquid lipsticks, I really must try across the spectrum, right? So, I picked up this effortless shade – “Kisses” from the new Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Color range. Let us see how this performed on my liquid lipstick barometer.
Lightweight, High Definition, Velvety Matte Colour. Revlon’s Ultra HD Matte Lip Color is a lightweight, high definition, matte color with a moisturizing velvety feel.
- Available in 16 high definition shades.
- Lightweight, high definition velvety matte color.
- Moisturizing, velvety feel.
- 100% wax-free, gel formula.
- Full coverage in one coat.
- Irresistible scent of whipped vanilla and cream mango.
INR 1195. I don’t know what the general consensus is, but INR 1200 for a lipstick from drugstore brand?? Would really like to know your views on it.
Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Colour has a packaging quite similar to that of the Chambor Xtreme wear Transferproof Liquid Lipstick. So, it is still an oval, cylindrical, lip gloss type of packaging. The only difference being that the Revlon tube is frosted with silver detailing while the Chambor one is a clear tube with black and silver detailing. The applicator is the standard doe shaped one with very little give. There is no exterior carton or seal around it.
My Experience with Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Color – 655 HD Kisses:
So, I saw these lipsticks in the store and thought I would swatch them. I swatched a handful of these and liked two of the newer shades; “Kisses” is one of them. Typically, how I swatch stuff in a store, especially lipsticks, is that I do not remove the swatches from my hand, I let them be. Sometimes, it is to get a clear idea of the colour in day light rather than the bright lights of the store. Sometimes, it is to see how the lipstick settles on the skin and dry down.
So, I walked out with about half a dozen swatches of the Revlon Ultra HD Lip Color. Post which, I roamed the mall for about an hour or so. When it was time to head home, I decided to take the swatches off in case I end up getting the product the on my clothes. So, after more than an hour since I first swatched them, these were still creamy and created a nice mess on the back of my hand… Hmmm…Matte? Let us find out…
Color: The range has about 8-10 shades in India, while US has about 16 of them. The shade “Kisses” instantly caught my attention because it was this, super easily wearable, almost neutral medium pink. This colour should work for all skin tones and could be a great choice for office goers as well.
Texture: The texture, as is clearly visible in the swatches, is extremely creamy. It glides on easily and evens out okay. Like I have mentioned earlier, even the swatches on my hand didn’t seem to dry. So what’s the deal with it? Matte? Honestly, the first couple of times that I trieditimes i tried it, i was super confused coz it wasn’t a matte lipstick. I couldn’t understand why would the brand market it as one. Was it a screw up by Marketing or development team? Anyways, so after trying it half a dozen times – this is what i figured – it actually does become a matte lipstick. Surprised? I was too. The only issue – the dry down time is anywhere between 1.5 hours to 2 hours! I know, insane, right?
So, the thing is, if you apply it and then end up eating or drinking for the first 1.5 hours – it will act as a regular cream lipstick and will transfer and start disappearing. However, if you leave it alone for 1.5-2 hours and it does settle – it changes and dries down to a matte finish which has very little transfer and is one of the more comfortable mattes.
But (and its a big “But”), who has the time to give 1.5-2hours to a lipstick to dry down?? It doesn’t make sense!!
Pigmentation: Pigmentation is good. The liquid lipstick goes on smoothly and hides all lip pigmentation well. The shade in the tube is the shade on the lips.
Staying Power: Here is the thing – if the lipstick isn’t given time to dry out – which will be the case more often than not – it will last about 3 hours or so. However, if you allow it to dry down – the wear time is drastically improved since the transference of the product is minimized. It does leave a slight tint – which is nice. However, the way it wears out – it gets patchy and a bit unbecoming.
Fragrance: There is a distinct sweet fragrance – which takes a while to dissipate. It can be annoying – more so for people who have a sensitive nose. So, beware of that.
To sum this up for you:
Pros of Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Color – 655 HD Kisses:
- A beautiful everyday wear shade.
- Creamy texture.
- Good pigmentation.
- Easy to apply with the applicator – very easy to get clean lines.
- It applies smoothly and evenly.
- Decent packaging.
- Easy to identify colour from the tube itself.
- Does not flake.
Cons of Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Color – 655 HD Kisses:
- Dry time is way too high for a matte liquid lipstick – or for any liquid lipstick!!
- Fragrance could be an issue for some.
A 2.5/5 product.
Would I Repurchase Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Color – 655 HD Kisses?
No, I will not repurchase – this or any other shade from the line. Neither do I recommend this lip color. You can’t be expected to wait for 2 hours for your lipstick to dry down. That is just stupid! Alternatively, if you want a creamy finish liquid lipstick, please go ahead and buy this. My point is – did no one do trial runs with it before launching them? If it was too late to work on the formula – somebody could have just renamed the line! why call it “matte?”
