Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Color – HD Obsession Review

Revlon launched their new liquid matte lipsticks a couple of weeks ago. I have already reviewed the shade “HD Love” from this range. Today, I am reviewing the shade “HD Obsession.” Read on to find out more.

My Experience with Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Color – HD Obsession:

Packaging: The packaging of this lipstick is a very classy-looking flat, oval tube, in a frosted matte finish with a brushed-silver cap. The packaging is really attractive and is sure to lure customers.

It comes with a paddle-shaped applicator which is quite standard. It is easy to use and makes the application precise and quick.

Shade/Pigmentation:  HD Obsession is a gorgeous fuchsia shade. It is slightly cool toned and hence might not suit darker skin tones, but it is a nice shade to flaunt in the current festive season and will look good with Indian traditional wear.

The lipstick is highly pigmented and one swipe gives you opaque coverage. I personally like putting on two swipes of the lipstick. There is no clumping if you layer on the lipstick, but this being a liquid lipstick, has a tendency to transfer onto the teeth. So, you do need to take care of that.

Texture/Finish:  This is a liquid lipstick and has a creamy texture. It is not very runny and spreads easily on the lips.  However, the name Ultra HD Matte is a bit of a misnomer. The lipstick does not dry down to a matte finish and it continues to be slightly wet and glossy throughout. The finish is a plush velvety one which looks lovely on the lips, but it is surely not matte and hence is bound to disappoint all those who purchase it expecting a matte look.

The lipstick feels pretty comfortable and lightweight on the lips and does not feel drying, but as the day passes, I experience a slight tackiness/stickiness when I purse my lips together. The lipstick doesn’t settle into lip lines, but this is a liquid lipstick and I would recommend exfoliating lips before application or else it does highlight dry patches.

The lipstick has a pretty strong fruity candy scent. Those of you who are sensitive to fragrances in their cosmetics will surely not like it. The good part is that the scent doesn’t stay on for long once applied.

Staying Power:  The lasting power is a big disappointment. It transfers big time to cups and cutlery and it lasts 4-5 hours depending on what I am snacking/drinking. It leaves behind a stain on the lips which needs a makeup remover to get it off.

To summarize, the name is misleading big time as this is not a matte lipstick, but if you like liquid lipsticks, you might actually love these.

• Gorgeous fuchsia shade.
• Creamy texture which glides smoothly on the lips.
• Strong pigmentation.
• Attractive packaging.
• Does not feel drying on the lips.

Cons of Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Color – HD Obsession:

• Does not have a matte finish as advertised.
• Transfers a lot and has average staying power.
• This particular shade might not suit all skin tones.
• Strong fruity candy scent.
• Slight tackiness is experienced as the day passes.

Would I Repurchase Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Color – HD Obsession?
If you like liquid lipsticks with a slight sheen, you may try it out, but it is not a matte lipstick. I already have 2 other shades from this range and will not repurchase the exact same shade.
