Rimmel Fix and Perfect Pro Primer in Shade 002 Review

Rimmel Fix and Perfect Pro Primer in Shade 002

Hi everyone!

Today I am going to be reviewing the Rimmel Fix & Perfect Pro Primer in the shade 002. I came across another review on IMBB about a Rimmel primer, however that review was on shade 001 which is tinted and therefore can only be worn by people of that skin shade. The primer I am going to be reviewing is white and applies clear, so it can be worn by people of all skin shades.

If you would like to know my thoughts about this product and my experience with it, please keep on reading!

My take on Rimmel Fix and Perfect Pro Primer in Shade 002:

The primer has an even consistency and a creamy texture. It is white in colour and once applied onto the skin and rubbed in, it goes on clear and makes the skin feel very smooth. When the primer is first squeezed out of the tube, it looks a bit like a lightweight face lotion and it also feels like a lotion when applying. However unlike a face lotion, the primer dries to a matte finish yet still manages to keep the skin feeling hydrated- the face lotions I have tried make the skin look dewy. The primer therefore definitely fulfils its claims of mattifying and smoothing the skin.

I don’t really wear makeup on a daily basis, but I do wear SPF and SPF can tend to be quite thick and greasy looking on the face- I like to apply this primer on underneath my SPF and it helps reduce the shine. I recently went away on holiday and the climate was unbearably hot, so underneath my SPF I wore the primer, with the hope of making the SPF last longer. I must say, the primer did help, but it didn’t last as long as it would do compared to a colder climate because I sweat a lot more and so the primer had a tendency to rub off.

The primer comes in a tube so it is easy to squeeze out and apply product and it comes in a 30ml tube, which might not seem a lot but since not a lot of primer is needed for the entire face, the tube will last a long time. I tend to squeeze a medium sized blob of primer and this is sufficient.
The primer also has a very light fragrance, which like I’ve said in my previous posts, is great for me since I have sensitive skin and certain fragrances can aggravate my skin.

It is also quite inexpensive, I have seen primers in all price ranges and this one definitely belongs in the lower price range which is great. However, this is the only primer I have tried. I have no idea whether the other primers are more expensive because they work better since I have not tried them and so I can’t compare this primer with another one. After I use up this primer, I am definitely looking forward to trying more primers to see whether they are better or not.

So to sum everything up- the primer makes the skin look matte, it makes any products you apply on top of the primer last longer and it is pretty affordable. Sounds like a great primer right? It is. However, there are some problems that I have found with this primer and that is to do with its other claims.

A problem I have with this primer is the fact that it claims to do more than it can actually do. The primer is described as delivering 5 in 1 results, it claims to smooth, resurface, brighten, mattify and protect the skin. Like I mentioned earlier, the primer does smooth and mattify the skin and so it clearly fulfils the criteria for a good primer. However, Rimmel then go onto hype this product even further by claiming that it brightens, protects and resurfaces the skin. Personally, I have not seen any evidence of that on my skin. I am not entirely sure what is meant by the term ‘brighten’, whether it is talking about immediately brightening the skin or long term effects, however either way, my skin is definitely not brighter after using this product. I am also unsure of what the product means by protecting the skin, since there is no SPF present and the same goes for the claim of ‘resurfacing my skin’. In my opinion, a lot of these claims are exaggerated and the product has been overly advertised with an abundance of claims.

There is no harm in simply saying that this primer mattifies and protects the skin- that is enough to describe a primer because that is what a primer is meant to do!

However that being said, the primer does have beneficial ingredients in it such as glycerin and grape juice which may be why there is the claim of brightening and protecting the skin, however if I wanted to brighten or protect my skin I would use products that have been designed to do that, such as face masks. Like all primers, this primer has a silicone base and that is why it is able to fill in pores and smoothen skin. It is also why the primer can last a long time on the skin and that sounds all well and good but silicone can clog pores and cause breakouts, if it not removed properly. Therefore, I advise that you thoroughly cleanse your skin when wearing a primer and this will help prevent any breakouts.

Pros of Rimmel Fix and Perfect Pro Primer in Shade 002:

Cons of Rimmel Fix and Perfect Pro Primer in Shade 002:

– Over hyped
– Contains silicone- can clog pores
– Does not brighten skin
– Does not protect (No SPF)
– Does not resurface

IMBB Rating: 3.5/5

Would I repurchase? Yes, the primer itself is great despite the product being over hyped. This product is great, I have no problem with the primer itself but like I have said, I do have a problem with all of its claims, claims that it does not fulfil! When a product claims to do more than it can actually do, it really puts me off since I prefer a brand to be honest about a product and not over sell something. For that reason, I have given this product a lower rating because it does not do everything that it says on the packaging.

Nonetheless, at least the primer fulfils its job and I will definitely carry on using this product.

Thank you for reading and I will be back soon with another review!

  1. silicones would be bad 🙁 I havent tried a lot of rimmel products.. I personally feel the same about a product being over hyped and false claims..i used their stay matte powder and for the oily skin like mine , it was just useless 😐

    1. That is such a shame that the powder did not work for you! And yeah, I’m always so put off by an over hyped product, just wish they could be honest! Thanks for reading Purva 🙂

  2. very good and detailed review. :)) i sometimes like to use silicon primers for photographs only because they do a good job at it. barely tried any products from rimmel. this looks okay..

    1. Thank you Rati! And yeah true, I think silicon primers are great for short term… ahh, you should perhaps try rimmel liquid liners, they are pretty good 🙂 This primer is good but I would have a better opinion of this once I try other primers 🙂
