I can never have enough red lipsticks. There are so many different shades of red out there. There are your cool reds, warm reds, neutral reds, orange reds, pinkish reds, the list goes on. And so I always find myself trying out a red lipstick and thinking that I don’t have this shade of red, so I MUST BUY IT *starry eyed*. I can feel all you lipstick addicts nodding your heads as you read through these lines. Anyway, you might have guessed that I am going to review a red lipstick for you today. The lipstick in question is the Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in the color “Alarm.” Read through the review to find out if it’s the perfect shade of red.
INR 250 for 4 gm.
The packaging is a huge turn off. It’s boring and flimsy. The lipstick comes in a deep maroon plastic packaging and looks very dated. The plastic itself is of very cheap quality and if you drop it even once, it will break. But again with this price, you can’t complain much.
My Experience with Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in Alarm:
Well, I love and hate this lipstick at the same time. I love, love, love the colour but I hate, hate, hate the staying power and the fact that it spreads and transfers a lot. Let me start off with the texture. It is a smooth, creamy lipstick and is very easy to apply on the lips. No tugging or pulling at all. It also doesn’t dry your lips out at all. In fact, it feels quite moisturizing.
The colour is the USP of this lipstick. It is a beautiful red colour which is bright yet subdued at the same time. Also, it is supposedly a dupe (and an almost perfect one) for the MAC Russian Red lipstick. Honestly, this was the only reason I bought this lipstick and colour wise, I am not disappointed. Although it is not my favorite red (it will be always MAC Ruby Woo), but then it’s a good one.
The colour is neither too brown, unlike many red lipsticks available in India, nor too pink. It is just the right red. The colour instantly brightens up the face and is a great pick-me-up colour. It is also very opaque and a single swipe gives a beautiful colour on your lips. Now what I don’t like about this lipstick is that it spreads and feathers a lot. I mean even if you accidentally brush your hands against your lips, you can end up ruining your lipstick. Also, the colour transfers like crazy. I mean it is really annoying. You end up having lipstick on your teeth, chin, hands, napkins, cups, glasses etc. Not so classy, right!? And you can guess the staying power is dismal especially if you eat or drink anything, the lipstick will disappear.
Although you can increase the staying power by applying a lip liner and then powdering and reapplying the lipstick, but it is so much of a hassle. So, as you can say, I am on the fence over this lipstick. On one hand, I love the colour and the colour pay off and on the other, I hate the staying power and the transferring issues.
Let me sum up the pros and cons for you to decide:
Pros of Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in Alarm:
- Great colour, a dupe for MAC Russian Red.
- Comfortable application.
- Doesn’t dry out the lips.
- Good colour pay off.
Cons of Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in Alarm:
- Transfers like crazy.
- Dismal staying power.
- There is some feathering.
- Packaging is flimsy.
- Availability in India.
3/5 (Just for the colour).
Would I Repurchase Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in Alarm?
No! I love my long stay and matte lipsticks a little too much. Although I do like the colour and if any of you like creamy lipsticks, then you must go for this one especially since it is a great dupe for MAC Russian Red and is very well priced too. But for me, this one is a miss.
