My Experience with Rimmel London 5 in 1 Nail Treat Base and Top Coat:

When they say you should always give your nails some rest and let them be free of any product for some days, they are right. A few months back, I was on a nail paint shopping spree. I bought loads of them, applied them one after the other. It was to such an extent that when I used to remove my nail paint, I didn’t like my nails bare (because they were turning yellow!!!) so I concealed them again with nail paint. I ignored it till I got a good scolding from my mother when she saw my nails. It was only then that I realized the importance of a base coat. In order to take care of my nails, I searched for a product and my search ended at this wonder.

This nail treat serves five functions:
• Strengthens
• Smoothens
• Increases growth
• Imparts shine
• Moisturizes

The brush is good and is divided in center and this helps in covering entire nail in minimal strokes. It looks and applies like a normal transparent nail paint, but it is so more than that. Of course I didn’t use it when my nails were discolored, because I read somewhere that it is better to not apply anything on the nails if they turn yellow because of excessive use of nail paints.

Once my nails showed signs of recovery, I was back to my nail paint frenzy. But this time I was more cautious, you see I applied this as a base coat so that the color adheres better to my nails but doesn’t harm them or stain them. After this I mostly finished off by applying it as a top coat too. Applying it as a base coat turned out be a very intelligent move (praising myself!!!) because there are certain colors like blues, yellows and greens which mostly stain the nail; I used to refrain from them but using a base coat not only prevented staining but has also strengthened my nails. Now I practically apply this beneath any color, this has become a ritual for me.

There are certain nail paints whose staying power increases drastically if finished off with a top coat. Top coat also lends a highly glossy finish to nail paint. I can’t comment on whether it increases nail growth because I don’t grow them too long (I am a physiotherapist and long nails can injure my patients)

This has totally replaced my transparent nail paint because whenever I want to use a clear nail paint, I just pick I up thinking that it does so much sitting on my nails than just making them look good. And it stays for impressive 5 days on my nails before I see it chipping from the ends. Overall, I would say that it has drastically reduced the damage my nails underwent because of my insane love for nail paints. Though it has some of those chemicals which I personally don’t like to see in the ingredient list, but it does have Vitamin E and some other impressive names in the list too. So till I find a vegan and less chemically-laden  product, I am going to stick to this one.
