Rimmel Provocalips 16 HR Kissproof Lip Colour – 550 Play With Fire Review

Hi guys!

This is my 3rd product from the “Provocalips” range and that should tell you how much I love these! While I agree that they are not for everyone, these are pretty good products that need zero touch-ups throughout the day.

Rimmel Provocalips 16 HR Kissproof Lip Colour

Price:
$6.99. Made in Germany.

Product Description:
Up to 16 Hours of lip liberation. Wild without a trace! Kiss proof, transfer proof, food proof high impact endless colour. No tight feeling or dry lips. Lips feel smooth and moisturized all day long. Easy removal with oil-based makeup remover.

STEP 1: Apply colour and keep lips apart for 60 seconds until the product sets. STEP 2: Apply top coat to lock the colour, moisture and add shine.

Packaging:
This product comes in a double-sided doe-foot applicator dipped in 2 containers. The red-coloured portion is called
“Step 1 Intense Colour” and white portion with kisses drawn on them called “Step 2 Lock and Shine.” The colour on the outside differs from the colour inside, so that is something to keep in mind. It also looks very cute and is travel-friendly too.

My Experience with Rimmel Provocalips 16 HR Kissproof Lip Colour – 550 Play With Fire:

Step 1 has 4 ml of product and Step 2 has 3 ml.

Shade: This is a deep, warm red. In their range, lighter colours are much sheerer than the bright and darker colours.

Texture/Application:  This product is extremely pigmented; one swipe gives full opacity and since it is quite a dark shade, I would recommend lining your lips with a lip liner so the application is a little easier. The texture of this product is very liquid-y. It glides on the lips wonderfully with minimal effort. The product starts to set within a few seconds of application, but you do get a bit of playtime because even if you layer and work it in the skin after it has become tacky, it does not get patchy in the slightest. But it can get patchy if you purse your lips together while it is still setting. Keeping the lips separated while it sets (about 20-30 seconds) will be even better.

Once Step 1 sets, it becomes smudge-proof, transfer-proof and kiss-proof, which makes the entire process worth it for me. The one and only biggest con of this is that once the Step 1 product dries and sets, you have to top it off with Step 2 to make it comfortable at least once. But once you do, you can go the entire day without putting on any product on your lips, even the Step 2. So, “once and done-type” product for sure. If you want a glossy/satin finish, you can top it off with a gloss or the Step 2 product. But this does mean that the Step 1 product can flake a bit, so I don’t tend to do that. I recommend not more than 2, at most 3 layers with the Step 1 product, because it can tend to flake and feel cakey on the lips if you apply more than 2-3 layers.

Step 2: Coming to the Step 2 product, I feel it is more of a necessity to add moisture after the colour dries, which is the main reason they have included it, but it is just not a gloss that disappears after a while. It is a little thicker than a traditional gloss, which I think helps in its longevity. It can be described as a semi-liquid balm, to be precise. It makes the Step 1 infinitely more comfortable on the lips. It gives the lips a satin to a glossy finish, depending on how much product you apply.

Staying Power:  This tends to stay on for about 8 hours on me before I start noticing fading in the innermost corner of my lower lips, at which point, the fading is not visible and you can get away with it, to be honest. You can take a shower or eat very greasy food, and it will still not wear off. I would say at about the 12-hour mark, the fading might be more pronounced and you might want to touch up.

How to take it off: Taking this product off is tricky, because of the fact that it is incredibly matte and literally gets stuck to your lips. I recommend an oil-based remover with a washcloth to remove this, as they mention in the product description. Water-based remover does not seem to work at all.

Fragrance:  The Step 1 product smells kind of plastic-y but the Step 2 has a very sweet scent. Step 2 is obviously more pleasant but I don’t smell them once they are on the lips.

Pros of Rimmel Provocalips 16 HR Kissproof Lip Colour – 550 Play With Fire:

  • Beautiful, intense colour.
  • Dark, warm red – perfect for fall.
  • Kiss-proof, smudge-proof, transfer-proof after it sets.
  • The color does not fade until the 8 to 12-hour mark – even with heavy eating/drinking or even shower/swimming.
  • Layering is easy and comfortable.
  • Lasting power is incredible.
  • Beautiful finish.
  • Affordable drugstore liquid lipstick.

Cons of Rimmel Provocalips 16 HR Kissproof Lip Colour – 550 Play With Fire:

  • Have to apply the colour quickly as it starts to set quickly – I recommend a lip liner first for precision.
  • Step 1 alone is drying on its own – have to apply the Step 2 at least once and then it is comfortable throughout the entire day.
  • If you purse your lips during the process of it setting, the lip color becomes patchy.
  • Very high maintenance product (but is worth it for me).

Would I Recommend Rimmel Provocalips 16 HR Kissproof Lip Colour – 550 Play With Fire?
This is a high-maintenance lip product, but you get all-day intense colour, smudge/kiss/food-proof finish, it depends on each person if they want to make that trade-off. You might end up really loving it or hating it, but I do suggest to give this a try because it is far less expensive while compared to high-end liquid lipsticks.

Would I Repurchase Rimmel Provocalips 16 HR Kissproof Lip Colour – 550 Play With Fire?
I own a good 3 of the 9 shades in the range now and I am all set for now. I will continue to use and enjoy the ones I have. Because they are insanely pigmented and I need a little in each application, they will last me a long, long time.
