Safe & Unsafe Cosmetics – Important Info

I was just browsing through various websites to know more about the brands and their partner companies and I found this legal FDA website, that can be a lot of interest to all IMBB readers.

lipstick lead

It tells the details about safe/unsafe cosmetics, and what goes into them.

Also within the above mentioned page, I found a link to the website that gives the information about the cosmetic brands that have signed the “Safe Compact”. (, which details more on FDA regulations, cosmetic brands and other necessary details about the ingredients used. According to this FDA approved website:

“Since 2004, the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics has coordinated the Compact for Safe Cosmetics, a voluntary pledge of safety and transparency. In the course of six years, more than 1,500 companies signed the Compact.

Campaign for Safe Cosmetics

As of January 2011, we are phasing out the Compact. We continue to work closely with existing Compact signers to develop new ways that manufacturers of personal care products can engage with the Campaign around shared values of product safety and ingredient transparency.

As we transition between the Compact and a new company engagement tool, we hope to help as many companies as possible reach compliance with the Compact. When the Compact officially closes in summer 2011, consumers will be able to search for compliant signers via the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics Web site and EWG’s Skin Deep database”

The website also tells details about what goes in your cosmetic products in below link:

The complete list of these companies that have signed the “Safe Compact” are given in below pdf:

I hope you share this information with the readers, so that they can choose better!! πŸ™‚

Thanx Cali…..I was aware of the lead content…..but din’t know some of the top brands have so much lead content in their lip products…..phwew now I should be careful :tremble: :tremble:
I use many Avon lippies… I am happy for that…..atleast for the less lead content :yahoo: :yahoo:

    1. Avon has seems to be quite a “safe cosmetics” company Jinal…most of their products get pretty good listings on sites that deal with ingedient toxicity, and I thought it was quite nice that an affordably priced brand ensures that it uses safe ingredients πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

        1. No……..we won’t autocorrect your english………………..I read much worse english somehwere………………   I won;t tell you where…………..go find for yourself :yelo: :yelo: :yelo: :yelo:

    1. Yeah Ida, but the amount is quite less…like 0.01- 4 parts in per million, so that decreases a level of worry!! πŸ™‚ :). However, it is always good to know better and choose the best!! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

  5. here is a test that you can do it yourself at home to check for lead…

    1. Put some lipstick on your hand,
    2. Use a 24k-14k Gold ring to scratch on the lipstick.
    3. If the lipstick color changes to Black color; it means this lipstick has Lead.

    1. woww…great tip….I din’t had such idea….I thought gold is suppose to be non-reactive metal….will try this…. :thanks: :thanks: Shanaiia :))

      1. Its a wrong test Shaniia..I shared a link here long time back that its a hoax!! :(( There is no way you can figure out the lead content in lipstick unless you let it go through lab test!!!

  6. well done cal :bravo: :bravo: :bravo: i…wud read all the links in detail later.. was just the companies link..its quite a bigg list.. wud use search option to find out about companies i know of.. 8) 8)

  7. it’s a great great post. now im scared though. i could not find loreal or maybelline or other popular brand names on the safe compact. :weep: :weep: u know, it’s not always possible to buy expensive stuff, na? and im not buying any VOV products anymore. :tremble:

    1. yeah bulbul!! We just follow the marketing strategies of these companies and fall for them…but there are many unknown brands around the world that are amazingly awesome, but fall back just coz they don’t use the marketing gimmicks like others do!! thank you!! :))

  8. thats a very useful link cali… πŸ™‚ the page abt the adjective of ‘natural and organic’ being a gimmick most of the times is really true….. and carcinogen in kids products :tremble: :tremble: :tremble: …..
