This is my first post on IMBB. I am planning to buy a cleanser and I need your advice in selecting a good one. I don’t have much knowledge about cosmetics or beauty products. All I use is just a face wash and a suncreen, and I am ready to go.. Now since i’m a follower of IMBB I would like to know more about pampering my skin. I know the first step to a beautiful skin is a clean & clear skin. So I would like to get myself a nice Cleanser. I have a combination skin (a little on the dry side with a oily T zone) and I live in Chennai so I don’t need to tell you people the damage done by sun to my skin 🙂
A cleanser is a facial care product that is used to remove make-up, dead skin cells, oil, dirt and other types of pollutants from the skin of the face. This helps to unclog pores and prevent skin conditions such as acne.
Many people use a cleanser once or more times a day as part of their skin care regimen together with a toner and moisturizer.
Using a cleanser to remove dirt is considered to be a better alternative to soap or another form of skin cleanser not specifically formulated for the face for the following reasons:
* Soap has a high pH (in the area of 9 to 10), and skin’s natural pH is 5.5. This means that soap can change the balance present in the skin to favor the overgrowth of some types of bacteria, exacerbating acne.
* Bar cleansers in general, soap or not, have thickeners that allow them to assume a bar shape can clog pores, leading (once again) to acne.
* Using soap on the face can remove natural oils from the skin that form a barrier against water loss. This causes the sebaceous glands to subsequently overproduce oil, a condition known as reactive seborrhoea, which will lead to clogged pores. Conversely, in order to prevent drying out the skin, many cleansers incorporate moisturisers.

I personally love clean and clear ACNE CLEARING cleanser 🙂
It helps me a lot !!!!!!It’s very cheap and you get it anywhere and everywhere.
The only thing i make sure while buying it is that
-I buy the one in the tube
-I also make sure that it is made in USA
Because 🙂 i feel the product quality differs and the one made in USA suits my skin more.
There’s another one which is like a cream-A white paste
I do not like that as much
The one i have is a transparent liquid!
So i would suggest you that.
When it comes to toners, i am very careless.
I hardly use them.But i have been using NIVEA visage toner
It’s ok.
But i am planning to get this toner by BODY SHOP 🙂
So if it works fine for me , i will let you know.
Use a good moisturiser-I would suggest you to use
NEUTROGENA MOISTURISING OIL FREE LOTION for combination skin-

Thanks for ur suggestion. Btw.. im looking for something which will deep clean my face. i feel my face has too much dirt at the end of the day since i Ride my scooty every day to work (even though i cover my face like mafia) 🙁 do u think clean and clear will do the needful.?

i used to wash my face thrice a day -when i used to ride the scooty 🙂
1s in the morning
1s i reach home or if you reach the office
and 1s in the night !
Clean and clear has really worked for me.It never made me break out 🙂
You should use a scrub thrice a week
and also use a black heard remover ! If you do have black heads – once a week.
Use aloe vera gel [You do get fresh aloevera gel :)].I keep it in the Fridge.
It’s so awesome 😀 and cool when you apply it and it really soothes you skin 🙂
I would suggest=
Clean and clear
or this other face wash called Cetaphil=You might get it any medical store 🙂
My cousin uses Cetaphil and she loves it 😀

Hi Suganya, I’m from Chennai too *same pinch*
I too have combi skin and I have 2 reccos for you –
1. I use ponds perfect matte oil control face wash. It’s the light blue tube. Completely non drying.
2. I also like the Himalaya Gentle Exfoliating Daily face wash. This is really good coz its not drying and it really cleans my face. This is awesome when you want to get the grime of the city off your face (you know how dusty Chennai can be!).
I’ve not tried any face washes from lotus herbals, but check out the reviews on IMBB.

me just shifted to chennai
and i know how the humidity sucks the dust into the pores
try garnier face wash with scrub(idk the name but they do have one with granules)
use st ives scrub twice a week
and use nutrogena mouisturiser
i am personally using all these
and if u dont mind, after u return home, mix two spoon besan with one spoon curd one spoon lemon juice and scrub ur face with this each day with this
i just feel its the best scrub…i know its very common
that way u can skip chemicals if u want :-))

I totally agree about besan. It is the best scrub and also a good cleanser. But I’m too lazy to use it regularly 😛

I know.. I hate Chennai for that one reason… Humidity.. By the time u reach home after work driving in the city traffic U will feel all over Chipky chipky.. i remember how i curse every traffic police who shows the RED Signal… :-X
I was actually thinking of Himalaya already since its herbal and i used it long back when i was in college.. Well i really dint care abt my skin that time so dunno if it had results on my skin 😛 so will try Himalaya now.. Ok… Im gonna buy Himalaya Face wash & Cleanser today.. jolly jolly..

I agree with Gia – Cetaphil !!! it won’t dry your skin like Clean and clear or even Garnier but it will leave it squeaky squeaky clean !
And like someone suggested above, St Ives apricot scrub – or an exfoliator of choice – twice or thrice a week.

combination skin………….use cetaphil cetaphil cetaphil and nothing else…….and besan and curd as scrub………..

i am reaaly confused to buy between cetaphil or clean and clear or pond”s face wash ..i have combination skin ..pl do suggest and can i know whether face wsahes can be used thrice a day ??
