Sephora Collection Classic Mineral Powder Brush #45 Review

Product Purchased by IMBB

Hello pretty gals,

Hope all of you are enjoying summers with cool ice candies and fruit smoothies! We have stocked up fruits and ice bars, just waiting for the right time to touch them 😛 Today, I am really excited to share my gift from IMBB – my very first makeup brush from Sephora Collection.  A big hug to IMBB for such wonderful gift :* :*  I had been eyeing a few makeup brushes ever since I came to know of their vital significance in makeup.  This Sephora Collection Mineral Powder Brush was on top of my shopping list ever since I tried it on my face courtesy generous Sephora! Sephora is always generous with showering GWP and samples.  A few months ago, I got a wonderful opportunity to get in touch with their makeup artist and got a complimentary makeover! Their cute makeup artist/SA was really helpful in teaching and doing my makeover while I was wondering how she blended the foundation, bronzer and powder on my face with a dome-shaped soft brush within minutes.  Upon asking, she told me, it’s the Sephora Collection Mineral Powder Brush #45.  Since then, I was planning to get it for it’s a multipurpose mineral powder brush which works wonders with any pressed/loose, mineral/non mineral face makeup including foundation, bronzer, primers, powders, almost everything!  So here, I come with my first classic mineral powder brush from Sephora Collection.

Product Description:

A brush designed for applying both loose and compact mineral powders.  This expert tool is equipped with a durable aluminum handle and soft, synthetic bristles that are ideal for picking up the perfect amount of powder. The plump shape complements the circular movements needed to apply mineral powders. Whether you are working with foundation, bronzer, or blush, this essential will help you achieve your desired look.

My Experience with Sephora Collection Classic Mineral Powder Brush #45:

This is a dome-shaped plump brush with sleek, smart black aluminum handle which makes handling and application very easy peasy! Its white-brown shaded, synthetic bristles are super soft and fluffy and ideal for every type of skin type including acne-prone/sensitive skin type.  It does not irritate or accentuate my oily/acne-prone skin.  I love how it eases my task of blending not only mineral loose/compact powders but many liquid/creamy foundation/primers/blushes well.  I remember the Sephora makeup artist used this single plump brush to blend the liquid Hourglass Immaculate Foundation followed by Make Up For Ever Powder Blush and bronzer on my oily skin and it was too quick as well as clean and neat.  She only took half a minute to set my makeup and the results were natural and wonderful!

I do not like liquid/cream foundation on my skin after coming here (every second gal/mum living in my locality wears makeup but their natural and flawless finishing is nowhere close to what I get even from high-end foundations).  Maybe that’s one of the major reasons of me staying away from foundations for so long! But after using this brush, I should say I am tempted to wear foundation occasionally! I blended my L’Oreal Visible Lift Cream Foundation and Revlon nearly naked liquid foundation (which were hiding in my vanity kit since ages) with this brush and it gave me almost natural and dewy finish which is visibly different and comparable to the makeover I got at Sephora.

I also use this brush to blend my Neutrogena Shine Control Primer and the results are way better than blending it with fingers seriously.  The primer still leaves a slightly transparent cast, but it’s not visible thankfully and I only need a few seconds to slather it on my skin. Moreover, this brush also helped me in using my previous drugstore makeup stuff, which were almost on their way to the dustbin.

I use this brush for blending my L’Oreal Visible Lift Face Powder and it effortlessly melts on my skin, giving a natural glow, no more white luminous effect! I used it with Neutrogena Skin Clearing Mineral Powder and just loved it for the fact that I cannot go wrong with this brush. No matter it picks up lots of powder, but it always gives a natural and flawless blending on my skin without accentuating my open pores and/or my acne-prone skin! I don’t feel like using sponge applicator (that comes with powder packaging) unless I need buildable coverage as sponge applicators definitely give medium coverage in 1-2 strokes while I get sheer-natural matte finish from brush!

I also love the fact that this brush is perfect in length and dense enough that even amateurs like me feel confident while touching it for first time! I still have a long way to go before I call myself a pro, but I can confidently say that I am loving the art of blending mineral powders and foundations with this magic brush.  Yes, it’s a magic brush, the moment you hold it, you know how to blend your makeup! Not to forget the IMBB posts which are a boon for beginners like me with self explanatory detailed write up!

Recently, I mustered courage to splurge on L’Oreal Hydralucent Loose Powder Makeup which was always in my dreams, but didn’t get it just because I was not confident on how to work with loose powders! But after holding this brush, I forgot that I was new to makeup.  I simply touched, tapped it on the loose powder, and it effortlessly blended on my face leaving behind natural and luminous glow without settling or sinking inside my pores. I am still not comfortable with its sponge applicator and hence I always use this Sephora Mineral Powder Brush for touch ups and easy blending! Must say, I regret for not splurging on loose powders before, they are awesome! Needless to say, I currently love loose powder in my life!

There is no doubt that this dense, soft brush is a boon for amateurs like me (who hardly knows the difference between stippling and kabuki brush), which works great for blending any type of foundation, blush or bronzer apart from giving flawless finish with mineral/non-mineral powder. I am overtly happy with this stuff and wholeheartedly recommend it to every beginner.  It is simple, easily manageable as per my observation. I am sure makeup pros would love it for blending their face makeup.  Sephora’s makeup artist praised this brush and claimed it to be a dupe for the well-known Urban decay Karma Brush though I have never seen that brush 😛

It is easily washable, I washed it 3-4 times with face cleanser and baby shampoo.  It never shed a single bristle, which is really impressive! I am famous for messing up stuff and hence I really need such rough and tough items in my life, which do not need high maintenance.  Moreover, it takes decent hours to completely dry up and attain the same fluffy dome shape without shrinking or expanding a bit! I am slightly disappointed with its packaging.  It comes in a simple bubble wrap polythene unlike its mini powder brush # 45.5 version, which is safely placed inside a transparent case. I need to keep it inside the polythene before keeping it in the shelf because I psychologically feel it is collecting germs and dirt upon exposure in open air.

I would not be surprised if you already own it for it needs no introduction in the makeup industry, especially for makeup pros as far as I know! If you haven’t, then just go and get it.  It’s too good to avoid, you know what I mean?

Let’s sum up the pros and cons:

Pros of Sephora Collection Classic Mineral Powder Brush #45:

  • A slender, sleek, black, mineral powder brush with aluminum handle and super soft synthetic bristles, safe enough for sensitive and acne-prone skin.
  • Perfect length, comfortably fits in my nervous hands.
  • It feels super cushion-y.  Soft and dense bristles blend every thick/thin consistency face makeup within seconds.
  • The bristles are safe enough for acne-prone skin, did not cause any reaction on my oily and acne-prone skin.
  • It not only blends mineral/non-mineral loose/compact powder, but also gives an airbrush finish with any drugstore/high-end foundation, blush, bronzers and even primers.
  • It is a multitasking brush for amateurs like me.
  • I get perfect finish in just one stroke with the brush, it picks up a good amount of stuff, but gives almost a natural finish on my skin.
  • It also works great with luminous/mineral loose powder, I just touch it and gently tap to remove excess powder.  It blends even luminous highlighters on the skin in seconds without delivering that white luminous cast and/or shimmers on skin.
  • It also works great with compact mineral powders and I don’t feel like touching their sponge applicators unless I want a buildable coverage.
  • I feel for gals on budget and beginners like me, it’s a great brush to start with, just get one Sephora mineral powder brush which works wonders with foundation/blush/bronzer/powder and even primers rather than splurging in individual brushes.
  • I think even makeup pros would love to use it.  It’s considered a dupe for Urban Decay’s Karma Brush.
  • Easily washable.
  • Takes decent hours to dry up completely and maintains its fluffy, dome shape even after 3-4 washes, does not shed bristles.
  • Easily fits inside my cosmetic bag and hand purse.
  • Considering its multitasking and great results, I feel it’s an affordable brush.

Cons of Sephora Collection Classic Mineral Powder Brush #45:

  • I skip this brush while using mineral powder especially when I need buildable coverage.
  • This brush comes in a bubble wrap unlike its mini travel brush #45.5 which comes enclosed inside a safe and transparent box and hence I psychologically feel it is collecting germs and dirt.
  • I was slightly surprised to read that it is “Made in China.” 😛

Honestly, I have nothing to complain about this brush.  I just love it and it would not be wrong to say that it is encouraging me to try bronzers, foundations more often! I get almost natural, fine and clean finish with every drugstore/high-end face make up! I am definitely stocking the mini brush #45.5 and this brush itself for my sis and sis in laws! I am also planning to get the backup for I never know how long this brush will survive once it gets my toddler’s attention 😛
