Sephora Collection Creamy Body Wash Monoi Review

Hello lovely ladies,

I just reviewed the Fraise (Strawberry) Creamy Body Wash for you. I thought I will go ahead and review this one too since I bought them together. This one is in the fragrance of Monoi.

But first, what is Monoi? Monoï oil is an infused perfume-oil made from soaking the petals of Tahitian gardenias (best known as Tiaré flowers) in coconut oil. Monoï (pronounced Mah-noy) is a Tahitian word meaning “scented oil” in the Reo-Maohi language. (Source – Wikipedia)

My Experience with Sephora Collection Creamy Body Wash Monoi:

Sephora Collection Creamy Body Wash Monoi Review tube

Though I have oily to combination facial skin, I have fairly dry body skin. As per my dermatologist, I have been advised to use lukewarm water throughout the year to ensure my dry skin doesn’t escalate to dermatitis. I do not use soap on my skin and stick to body washes and change them intermittently. I can have as many as 4 of them running in rotation sometimes, without being partial to any one in particular. I do not see a pattern of repeat buying, except maybe The Body Shop Strawberry range – body wash and body scrub. Those are the only ones I have found myself repurchasing.

Sephora Collection Creamy Body Wash Monoi Review Back

As I mentioned in my previous review, the Sephora Collection Creamy Body Washes come in a host of fragrances. There are 11 options to chose from – ranging from Monoi to Strawberry to Peony to Vanilla to Blueberry. There really is a wide variety to chose from.

Sephora Collection Creamy Body Wash Monoi Review All

Packaging: The packaging is pleasing to the eye. It is a light saffron colored opaque tube with a flip cap which has a small nozzle. The packaging allows you to control the amount of product being dispensed. It seems travel-friendly. Also, a big plus was that the product had a tamper proof seal. The only part I do not like is that there tends to be a bit of spillage from the nozzle into the cap. And when you open the cap, it tends to fall out creating a bit of mess. However, this has not resulted in automatic leakage of the product outside the packaging.

Texture: True to its name, the product is a creamy body wash. It has a creamy runny consistency. The color is fairly milky with just a hint of orange to it. It is easy to dispense from the tube and spreads easily on the body and lathers well. Post washing off, it does not seem to leave a residue on the body.

Fragrance: As explained in the beginning of the review, Monoi oil is made from soaking Tahitian gardenias in Coconut oil. The fragrance is appealing in a calming way. It doesn’t seem artificially sweet and doesn’t remind you of Parachute oil either!! The familiarity of coconut fragrance with a more flowery bouquet is actually quite pleasant. It is not overpowering or too strong that it starts irritating. The fragrance is fairly strong while you are using it but does not linger on to the skin for too long. You really need to touch your nose to your skin to feel any fragrance. So, the fragrance is pretty much there only while you are still in the bath.

Application: The application is fairly simple and straight forward. The only thing I would mention here is that the product isn’t one where a little goes a long way. You need decent amount each time for application and then it lathers well. If you skimp on the amount you use, it actually doesn’t produce any lather whatsoever.

Efficacy: A quick look at the claims:
1. Makes the skin look beautiful
2. Cleanse and hydrate without drying the skin
3. Ultra gentle formula
4. Luxurious moisturizing foam
5. Delicately scents your skin
6. Refreshing stress-relieving extracts

Sephora Collection Creamy Body Wash Monoi Review Swatches

Even though I definitely liked the fragrance of this one, I feel in terms of performance, it is fairly similar to the Strawberry variant. The product is gentle on the skin and the fragrance (quite calming and pleasant). However, when it comes to fragrance, one person’s exotic can be other person’s pungent. I did not feel that the product was hydrating. To explain it, I could draw an inference with say a satin lipstick which may not be drying for the lips and is comfortable to wear, however, isn’t necessarily hydrating for them either. Do you get it? So, while the skin feels clean and gentle, it does not feel hydrated, nourished or supple. I do need to ensure that I use a body lotion/oil post using this product. Does it delicately scent your skin? Yes, very very very delicately. You really have to put your nose to the skin to feel the fragrance. And it doesn’t really last. I feel it scents the washroom more than it scents the body! 😉 (Mentally, I just said the word “body” emulating Farhan Akhtar from Zindagi Na Milegi Dobra when he asks Katrina what she loves about him, apart from his “body” of course! 😉 Do you remember the scene? I really must stop rewatching this movie!!! But I love it so much!!!)

Pros of Sephora Sephora Collection Creamy Body Wash Monoi:

• A mild, creamy body wash
• The fragrance is pleasant and calming to me
• Spreads easily
• Lathers well
• Does not leave a residue post washing off
• Tamper-proof packaging
• Did not irritate my skin
• Gentle on the skin
• Foams nicely, if sufficient product is used
• Did not dry my skin further or aggravate the dryness

Cons of Sephora Collection Creamy Body Wash Monoi:

• Not too hydrating
• The fragrance does not linger on the skin
• The packaging could do with a better blocking of the nozzle
• Contains Sodium Laurel Sulfate – SLS

IMBB Rating:
3/5
Overall: I feel that my opinion and rating remains the same. It is an okay product. While I will enjoy using these, I will not be panicking about getting a replacement once this gets over. I will definitely not be repurchasing. However, I am quite likely to check the Body Shop Offerings to see if they have something – a body butter preferably with Monoi fragrance.
