My experience with Sephora Collection MicroSmooth Baked Luminizer – 02 Light Beam:

Color/Effect: The color in the pan looks like a very light pink, with chunks of pink & gold glitter in it. It is not really a pink color but I would describe it as a flesh-toned pink with a strong gold tinge to it. This combination gives it a duochrome effect. If you swipe it with your finger, that is exactly what you see on your finger too & as a swatch too on the first swipe on skin. When you sheer it out, you don’t really see a color but just a flesh-toned-gold shimmer to the skin with a lot of micro-glitter of pink & gold in it. If applied sparingly, it gives a good effect but the moment you apply more the swatch takes on a very chunky-shimmery look that is not flattering on the face at all – on cheeks, nose bridge, above the cupids bow and other such areas where highlighter is applied. This fact is the biggest con any highlighter can have. I personally only use this product as an eyeshadow, for the pretty duochrome effect that it has. They say in their description “The breathable baked formula applies smoothly while the unique, airy texture perfectly melts into skin for a natural finish”. I beg to differ; there is nothing “natural” about any finish that leaves a strong shimmery look to the skin.

Texture: It is not powdery, even when a lot is taken, it can be easily sheered out, and the glitter in it does not “fall out”. Having said this, it is not creamy & “micro-smooth” as advertised. Also, when a brush is swirled over it, there is a lot of product that falls around the pan. If you hold it in your hand and swirl it, I have to be careful to wipe my hands as I’m afraid of product transfer to areas where I don’t want any shimmer. When I purchase a face illuminator or highlighter I look for that “glow from within”, if an illuminator cannot do that, it is a fail for me. This highlighter feels slightly powdery when rubbed between 2 fingers and that is how it goes on the skin, very visible, very shimmery as opposed to “glowy”. It is free from harmful chemicals, which is a wonderful aspect for any makeup product, but if it doesn’t look that great then that is not enough motivation to buy the product.

Staying Power: The shimmer effect stays on for a more than 4-5 hours, that is the maximum time I have tested this out on at least 6 occasions, after that I have avoided using this product on my face and only use it on my eyes, as mentioned.

Application: A very fluffy brush is ideal for using this for a face highlighter. Any brush that is denser than that deposits a lot of product giving a very unflattering look. A flat brush is good to use with it at times when I intend to use it as am eyeshadow.

Pros of Sephora Collection MicroSmooth Baked Luminizer – 02 Light Beam:

• It is inexpensive & 3.5g is a lot of product for the price.
• Has multiple uses – can be dabbed on centre of lips or as an eyeshadow or on the décolletage apart from just a cheek highlighter.
• Can be sheered out easily or packed on
• Has a duochrome effect – between pink & gold
• Free from parabens, sulfates & phthalates

Cons of Sephora Collection MicroSmooth Baked Luminizer – 02 Light Beam:

• Has glitter in it, not just shimmer, which is not good for a subtle highlight
• The color is not very flattering on the cheeks for most Indian skin tones
• The product has chunky glitter/shimmer in it which makes the pores on the cheeks or any lines on the face more visible
• Does not come with a mirror.

IMBB Rating:

2/5 : The only reason I give this any points is because for very strong bridal looks or on the décolletage, it looks good but as it not it’s advertised purpose I personally do not want to give it any more points.

Do I recommend/Will I repurchase Sephora Collection MicroSmooth Baked Luminizer – 02 Light Beam?

I neither recommend it nor will I repurchase this. I only use it as an eyeshadow & as eyeshadows go,  it is not a very unique color, even though the effect is very pretty. If you want a very glittery look, for a wedding or party or a costume event then this works, if not you don’t need this.

I hope this helped & until next time – Happy Makeuping!

  1. It look so pretty in the pan though. So sad that it doesn’t do what it claims. I also hate it when highlighters have chunky glitters and shimmers.

    1. Seriously & if they are I just wished they marketed it as such, especially as many order products online & can’t check swatches personally
