Sephora Collection Pro Contour Blender #77 Review

Ola bonita chica’s!

Now I know you are going to think I am probably a contouring addict because it is all the rage these days but let me tell you, if done correctly it can completely change your face and become a part of your everyday beauty routine very easily. I personally have loved contouring before Kim K made it a thing but I do not go all out like her all the time. My contouring routine is fast and effective and I can get it done in combination with a simple day time casual look in less than 2 minutes. But I have some amazing help of course without which I would be nowhere so let me tell you a little bit about it.

This is Sephora brush is from their PRO line so not to deter a new comer to contouring but this does take some practice getting right, but once you get the hang of it this really does change the way you look at contouring. There are brushes out there that can give you a similar effect but the #77 gives you a sharp and well defined contour quite like no other. I love the size of this brush, and it has a bulky handle which gives a good grip to hold as you work the product into your face. The metallic ferrule is chunky with the number 77 etched on one side and Sephora’s ‘S’ on the other. I personally love this because I just call them Sam’s brushes since my name starts with an S too!

Price
USD 34- It is a very expensive brush and I am sure Sephora is minting a lot of money from the sales of this thing but it is also worth every dollar you spend for it in the long run.

My experience with Sephora Collection Pro Contour Blender #77:

I love this brush! I have my MAC ones that I always use to contour my face whether it is for a morning look or an evening look but I only use those with powder contours. I recently made the switch to cream contours and although I love both powders and creams for this purpose, this brush works the best with cream and liquid which is why I made the investment after a lot of research and debate with my own heart and brain.

Again I have to emphasize that this is not the best brush for someone who does not know what contouring is but wants to learn and start today. However if you want to up your contouring game several notches then this is definitely the brush for you. The fibers of the #77 are synthetic and extremely soft. This brush has not shed while use on my face or during spot cleaning and through washing. It has never felt scratchy or rough during use either.
One thing I really love about this brush is the case it comes in. This plastic case is very sturdy, locks firmly and although I am overly careful when closing it so as to not get the bristles of the brush trapped (because I paid enough for it!!) the case is made in such a way that this does not happen and the case does not close and its edges do not approximate to click lock till the brush is in a secure position. This case helps my brush stay clean and avoid contact with other surfaces when I’m travelling.

I can also be rough with this brush because I know it is safe in the case. I can also rest my brush in the case after I put the product on my brush (if my phone rings or I need to do something else) because the bristles itself do not touch the plastic of the case while lying in it.

Although this brush works well with powder it exceeds in performance when used with cream or liquid contours. The best way to use this brush is to get the product on it and then gently hug the bone structure of your face with the taller end of the brush facing your ear lobe and swipe the product onto your cheek. It is best to be light handed with this brush because the fibers are dense and do pick a lot of product. The product placement should be done slightly above the hollows of your cheeks because with this brush you are going for that harsher line (which you will blend out in a second fear not!). Once you have your line formed just under your cheekbones blend upwards to dissipate the colour all over your cheeks. As you blend, the harshness disappears although you can totally leave it on if you have an evening wedding function or a stage performance. When matched with a cream highlighter and a cream blush the look you can achieve is flawless.

This brush is so easy to use and I love the way it curves making it easy to contour your cheeks and forehead. Because it is wide I have not personally used it on my nose and this also does not fulfill the purpose of jaw line or under the chin contouring for me. However, reading other blogs I know people use it for the bridge of the nose and the jaw as well. I really like this for my forehead too which the curves of this brush just hug, but because it gives a Photoshop finish to the angular streak on my cheeks it is my new best friend! Again it works amazing for bronzer too which you can blend seamlessly with this.

One bad thing that people think about this brush is due to the curvylicious design it is a little problematic getting product evenly on the brush because most product are in flat pans and people jump in joy when they find a convex shaped powder product to use with this but I do not agree. I press the brush in my flat pan cream contour and drag the brush across the pan to make sure all the bristles are coated evenly. Sure this means that the taller end of the brush gets a little bit more product but that is the part which will be placed near your ear and that end of the contour needs to be heavier anyway! You do not want excess product nearing your nose right, so I do not consider this a design flaw.

Would I recommend Sephora Collection Pro Contour Blender #77?
This bad boy equivocates in my mind to Brad Pitt in that tiny leather skirt in troy showing off his toned legs running and jumping around slaying people. It is amazing and you need it in your life.
