My Experience with Shahnaz Hussin Shamask I:

Well, I had actually gone out to buy this particular mask and my staple hair care product “Shatone” when I picked up some other SH products like the coffee bean scrub which I reviewed a few days back.

This particular mask was recommended by the legendary, Ms. Shahnaz Husain, a few days ago in an article, in which she was giving tips to take care of the skin in the winters.  Since then, it was on my “things I must get” list. :haanji:

The mask is light brown, has slightly thick consistency, but spreads out easily on the face. The texture is grainy and not smooth. It has some particles, which are though not very hard, but can give you a light scrubbing. I scrub my face with this mask first and then let it stay for 10-15 minutes before I wash it off.

The mask has a mix of herbal+chemical smell (and of almond oil too 😛 ); nothing very luring/appealing.  I won’t consider it pleasant, but anyway, not all products which smell good work well 😛

The mask is not a clay-based one and does not dry out completely like most face packs. I don’t keep it for more than 15 minutes on my face and by that time it does not dry.

Post-washing I see that it makes my face soft, hydrated and my skin looks much better.  There is no stretchy feel at all and I don’t need to follow up with a moisturiser too. It is basically a nourishing mask as I can also see components like almond, sandalwood oil, honey. I believe it would be best for normal to dry and combination skin only. If you have super oily and acne-prone skin and you prefer clay-type masks with ingredients like tea tree/neem etc., then you can easily skip this.

Lastly, I would like to mention that I can only assess this mask by considering its immediate result on the skin. I use it only once in a week and not everyday, so I cannot comment/assure you whether it can do drastic good for your skin or improve skin tone, reduce blemishes or wrinkles, etc. I personally prefer using it before my evening outs so that my skin looks good. Also, I don’t really seek great benefits from skin care products like scrubs or face masks as I don’t use them every day.

Overall, I like the mask and I would recommend it to normal-dry-combination skinned beauties for some quick skin pampering. Ladies with oily skin, please check my post on best face packs for oily skin before you start spanking me 😀

Pros of Shahnaz Husain Shamask-I Plus Rejuvenating Mask:

  • Reveals a soft, smooth skin after washing the mask off.
  • Adds a slight glow.
  • Does not dry out the skin like clay-based packs.
  • Has slight grainy texture, so can be used as a scrub too.
  • Hydrates the skin lightly.
  • Suits my combination to sensitive skin.
  • Never broke me out.
  • The formula does not seem very high on chemicals, is more on the herbal side.
  • Decent tube-type packaging.
  • I like all skin-friendly things mentioned in the ingredients list.
  • Shahnaz Hussain products are easily available in India.
  • Bonus-Shahnaz Hussain products are cruelty free, I mean they don’t test animals.

Cons of Shahnaz Husain Shamask-I Plus Rejuvenating Mask:

  • I don’t like its fragrance/smell.
  • Slightly expensive for the 50 gm quantity given.
  • Not great for oily skin.
P.S.:  The ingredients list does not mention whether it contains parabens or not :|, had it been mentioned, then that would have been con no. #4 😛
