Shahnaz Husain Shaqueen Precious Herbs Moisturiser Review

Shahnaz Husain Shaqueen Precious Herbs Moisturiser Review

Dear friends….Today before I start off this review I have to take you with me for a visit down memory lane, as I can never talk about Shahnaz Husain product without a flashback.

Few years ago when I was just out of college and experiencing the joys of financial freedom (read as salary)….I decided I could now go ahead and splurge on myself (read as promptly visit a beauty store 🙂 ) I was still in my initial days of exploring the world of skincare brands and frequently caught on names like Shahnaz Husain, Biotique and so on.

Shahnaz Husain Shaqueen

So after making the sales assistant show me many SH products, I picked up SH Pearl Cream. It was my first ever splurge on a skincare product. With a big dent in my pocket (internship salary…people 🙁 ), but with a much bigger smile I was all excited about trying out the cream. I can end by saying that I never picked up any SH product ever again.

Ever again until few months ago when one of my friends was travelling to India and I asked her if she could pick up few SH products for me. I thought that maybe I need to give SH a second chance …maybe this time it would suit my skin better….maybe I had made a bad choice the first time around……well so here is my review on what I found out about Shaqueen.

Packaging:

The cream comes in a triangle shaped, light green tub with similar colored cap. The trademark founder’s picture is on the tub. It also has a small peel off lid under the cap, so as to contain the cream from spilling which is good. The fragrance is pleasant, but somehow reminds me of fair and lovely cream. The good thing is that fragrance almost fades away once you have applied the cream…I say almost because I can still catch some whiff after 2 -3 hours after which I cannot smell it at all. The cream itself is very light and has a glossy look to it.

Price:

40 g. of the cream was priced at Rs. 580.

Product Description:

My Experience with Shahnaz Husain Shaqueen Precious Herbs Moisturiser:

The cream gets immediately absorbed in my skin and leaves a matte finish on the face. This reminds me of my experience I had with SH Pearl Cream and was the very reason why I had not liked the SH Pearl cream then and SH Shaquen now. I think it would be a better suited cream for an oily or normal skin type.

Due to my dry skin I prefer a cream which can form like a light veil on my skin like Lush Shangri La. So, in my second attempt instead of using the cream alone I first used my Philosophy Hope is not Enough serum and then layered it with SH Shaqueen.
Again the same matte effect on my skin. Failed again.

In my third attempt I am now adding 2 -3 drops of Kate Somerville’s Dilo Oil to the cream and then applying on my face. This has appeared to be more effective outcome than the above two. My face feels more hydrated for longer hours.

I have not seen any marked change in skin texture or tone by using this cream alone. It did not make my skin smooth or supple as it claimed. It is mentioned that it can be used on neck, which I am doing, and also on hands, which I am not for the sheer reason that it is too pricey for a hand cream and I have better moisturising hand creams presently (read The Body Shop). It also has parabens, which you should watch out for. I am using this more as a day cream as it is too drying to use as a night time moisturiser. Also, it does not seem a good moisturiser for winter seasons.

Pros of Shahnaz Husain Shaqueen Precious Herbs Moisturiser:

  • Cream is suitable for oily or normal skin as it has a matte effect.
  • Fragrance is pleasant which fades away after few hours of application.
  • More suitable as day cream only.

Cons of Shahnaz Husain Shaqueen Precious Herbs Moisturiser:

  • Not suitable for dry skin.
  • Pricey.
  • Contains parabens.
  • Did not observe any positive effect on skin texture and tone.
  • For using cream on a dry skin type, it has to be layered with a face oil.
  • Would need reapplication on face in few hours (if you have dry skin) as it feels dehydrated.
  • Not suitable for very dry weather conditions.
  • Not moisturising and cost effective enough to be used on hands as claimed.

IMBB Rating:

2 out of 5

The ingredient list of apricots, dates and olive oil would be the only positive thing for me in this cream.

Would I repurchase Shahnaz Husain Shaqueen Precious Herbs Moisturiser?

No I would not buy this product.
I am able to use it only because I am mixing it with my KS dilo oil.

On a side note, I have however not given up on SH products as of yet, as I am still trying few other creams which I will share with you all very soon. 🙂

If you have tried this product too, please share about your experience!

  1. Alaka, I had a really really bad experience with SH products this past month. I went ahead and got a facial with the nourishing cream and stuff and had horrible breakouts the next day, in fact, it has not cleared even now 🙁 Skip, skip, skip SH for me!
