SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen, Grow and Restore Shampoo Review

This product is another great find from the brand, Shea Moisture; I am sort of addicted to this brand because of all natural, affordable and effective products. For quite some time, I had been using Tresemme Keratin Smooth Shampoo and Equate Keratin Shampoo to wash my hair but I felt that even though these shampoos were cleansing my hair really well, they were also drying out my hair due to the excessive amount of lathering agents present in them (sulphates). Hence, I decided to go for something milder and gentler and I am glad I found a relatively cheaper alternative in my local drug store. Keep reading to know more about it.

My Experience with SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen, Grow and Restore Shampoo:

I have used regular shampoos like the one by Dove or VOS and have also used more luxurious one by brands which have their own dedicated aisle in Ulta but I found that all of them did contain strong cleansing and foaming agents. Ironically, these cleansing agents are common in any kind of cleaning solution one purchases (dish washing solution or laundry detergent) except that percentage and perhaps the quality vary.

Packaging: The product comes in a 16 fl Oz bottle which looks like The Body Shop bottles and even though does not look fancy, it serves the purpose well and is clear. Hence, I know when it’s the time to purchase again.

claims

Consistency: Since it is a ‘cleansing’ shampoo it has a runny and less dense consistency – it feels like liquid laundry detergent or a fabric softener. However, fortunately, it behaves nothing like them.

Fragrance: I love the fragrance – nothing particular I can pinpoint, but still it is very mild and pleasant and lingers in my hair for a while.

Efficacy: This shampoo is sulphate free and hence will not lather like the usual shampoos, hence all those who love foaming shampoos should refrain from using it. But, it does lather more than the last Shea Moisture shampoo I reviewed. It does not rinse out hair in one go and a bit more quantity than the usual shampoos is required to thoroughly cleanse my hair.

cap

It gives a decent amount of lather and removes all the dirt, oil, and other residues in my hair after rinsing my hair twice. Most manufacturers make sure that shampoos leave our hair a bit dry so that one has to apply a silicon-based conditioner to soften our hair. But, such is not the case with this shampoo and it is not imperative to follow it with a conditioner and that step can be skipped.

Conclusion: It is a good and cheap shampoo which would do well in our shower routine and best of all – it is gentle, mild and does not dry out my hair.
