Shiseido Tsubaki Camellia Hair Treatment Oil Review

Hi guys!
How is the summer treating you? My hair has been crazy dry lately and it is probably because I haven’t been taking good care of them. I should get back into treating them with some TLC. Anyway, today’s review is about Shiseido Tsubaki Oil.

A little background about Tsubaki Oil:
Camellia oil is supposed to increase sheen, help in moisture retention, prevent drying out and flaking of scalp, and protect against environmental damage. This oil has anti-oxidative properties and is an excellent emollient.

The packaging is so beautiful on this one. It looks so elegant and luxurious. It comes in a glass bottle that is wide at the center and tapers towards the bottom. Since this is glass, you have to be careful while handling it. The bottle has 60 mL of oil. It is rather easy to get oil on the bottle and hence drop it. Also it does not have a pump dispenser, which would have been so convenient to have. So I am not a big fan of this but bonus points for making it looking pretty in my vanity!

My Experience with Shiseido Tsubaki Camellia Hair Treatment Oil:

The first thing is that it is in between being a very heavy and a very very very lightweight lotion type consistency. That middle ground is just perfect for this oil. I also sometimes deep condition my hair with this and a regular coconut oil interchangeably. For that, you should massage the oil from mid-lengths to tip (focusing on the ends, because they are the oldest hair on your head and hence, with the most amount of damage) and put on a shower cap for an hour minimum and wash your hair. You can do this overnight as well. I also like to use it after washing my hair, just to moisturize them.

I use this when my hair is still wet and brush it through with Tangle Teezer (every curly haired girl’s best friend). It does not weigh my hair down at all, and it is not greasy. The oil is clear and has a light, sweet floral scent. I think the scent is one of the top reasons why I love this product. I can smell this all day and won’t get sick of it. As for longetivity, I find that if I apply the product in the morning, it is gone by the next day. So I usually re-application is needed.

Shiseido Tsubaki Camellia Hair Treatment Oil

As with any other hair oil, it does do a good job at taming the frizz and giving a glossy finish (more apparent if you have straight hair). And you don’t need a lot to achieve this. Just a small dime-sized amount is good enough for me. You can also use a few drops for your nails/cuticles to moisturize them. The same oil is available in a spray form which will make spreading it on the hair much easier.

Pros of Shiseido Tsubaki Camellia Hair Treatment Oil:

• Moisturizes hair.
• Lovely scent.
• Does not weigh hair down.
• Very light consistency.
• Tames frizz well.

Cons of Shiseido Tsubaki Camellia Hair Treatment Oil:

• Glass packaging.
• Not travel-friendly.
