Shu Uemura Blanc Chroma Brightening and Polishing Gentle Cleansing Oil Review

Hey lovely ladies,

Today, I have for you another cleansing oil from Shu Uemura – this one is the Blanc: Chroma – “Brightening and Polishing Gentle Cleansing Oil.” How many of these do I have? Well, the whole range 😛 I thought why bother trying other brands when the best has numerous options to try. Let’s see how this one performed.
Shu Uemura Blanc Chroma Brightening and Polishing Gentle Cleansing Oil

Product Details (from the official website):
The first step in Shu Uemura’s most advanced 4D brightening system, Blanc:chroma Brightening and Polishing Gentle Cleansing Oil has been reworked to deliver more luminous and transparent looking skin, time after time. Moving beyond stubborn makeup removal, blanc:chroma brightening and polishing gentle cleansing oil effectively polishes away accumulated melano-stains for brighter and more transparent skin, leading to a beautiful makeup finish. Fights against 4 chroma imperfections (uneven redness, yellow dullness, brown dark spots, greenish dark circles) for luminous, transparent skin. Ultimate removal system dissolves and lifts away makeup and impurities in a flash.

The prices vary from variant to variant.
How to use

Packaging:  It comes in a plastic purple shade bottle. The oil itself is transparent and it’s the bottle, which is purple in colour. The bottle comes packaged in a color coordinated purple cardboard box.  The bigger bottles have a pump attached. The travel version is with a flip top instead of a pump.
Ingredients

My Experience with Shu Uemura Blanc Chroma Brightening and Polishing Gentle Cleansing Oil:

This one is the purple bottle – very pleasant to the eye.  The first thing which hits you about this product is the fragrance, which is floral and more pronounced than the other variants that I have tried. The fragrance does not dissipate quickly. Basically, you are rubbing this on your face, so the fragrance is definitely wafting into your nostrils. Is it bad? No, not really. Just that it is pronounced and like that of a perfume. People who have concerns with fragrance in their skin care should basically stop reading further! 😉
Cleansing oil bottle

As with the previous cleansing oils that have been reviewed (Anti-Dullness Cleansing Oil, Sublime Beauty Cleansing Oil, Brightening Gentle Cleansing Oil), this one too is transparent and very light, and spreads easily. This one again needs to be used on “dry” against “wet”) skin. It breaks down makeup in a flash, including waterproof makeup, matte liquid lipsticks, kohl, everything! You need to mix a little water to emulsify the oil, post which, wash off everything with water. Considering how fast this one acts, you would assume that it leaves the skin bereft of moisture and taut. On the contrary! Post washing off, the skin feels soft, revitalized, fresh and brighter.

There is no residue left on the skin. Neither does it irritate the skin or the eye area. Instead, the skin feels calmer and brighter.

This particular variant also boasts of a clarifying clay extract and a mild exfoliant in their mix, both of which promise to work in tandem to scour off surface spots and such to reveal a clean and brighter skin. I do feel that my skin has become brighter. Have the spots disappeared, not quite. But a whitening product or something for dark spots tend to reveal their efficacy over a longer period of time.
Swatch

I think this one is a definite up on the Ultime8 one that I had reviewed earlier. However, if fragrance is an issue for you, I would say, skip this and try the green one – Anti/Oxi instead.

To sum this up for you:

Pros of Shu Uemura Blanc Chroma Brightening and Polishing Gentle Cleansing Oil:

  • Can be used as cleanser and as a makeup remover.
  • Extremely effective in removing makeup, dirt, grime, excess sebum.
  • Does not cause the skin to feel tight, like some harsh cleansers do.
  • Leaves no residue or stickiness on the face.
  • No irritation to the skin or eyes.
  • Skin becomes radiant and brighter with regular use.
  • Easy to dispense and apply.
  • Easy to store and carry.
  • Breaks down even waterproof makeup.
  • Provides gentle exfoliation as well.

Cons of Shu Uemura Blanc Chroma Brightening and Polishing Gentle Cleansing Oil:

  • Availability in India.
  • Wouldn’t suggest for people who have concerns with fragrance in their skin care.

I love Shu Uemura oils – I really do. I am never going back to makeup removers again except for quick corrections of course. The whole cleansing oil routine is so pleasurable. The biggest change it brings about is that you do not dread the idea of how long and tedious it will be to remove makeup at the end of the day. You actually look forward to it! And obviously, you have the option of being able to use this one as just a morning cleanser as well. Enough said!

  1. i have rarely ever tried shu uemura products. i swear by cleansing oils I love them so much. On my list is bobbi brown cleansing oil next. this one sounds fab. must check out the brand for sure. good review 🙂

    1. Thanks Rati! I seem to be loving the brand more and more – as i am trying their line. I reviewed the Bobbi Brown cleansing oil some time back. Honestly, Between Bobbi’s Cleansing oil and any of the Shu ones, I would suggest you to try the Shu ones instead – they are more effective and nourishing!

  2. nice review KK!! Thanks for providing link to buy as well.. I always have a qn. Will cleansing oils work on oily/acne prone skin during summers too?

  3. Thanks Kusum! Yes, it will. I have oily, acne prone skin and have been using cleansing oils since late 2013 – as my only make up remover. Through winters and summers!
