Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick Disorderly Miss Conduct Bawse Review

Product Details:
What it is:
An eight-hour, liquid matte lipstick that’s specifically formulated to be comfortable and not dry out your lips.

What it does:
Give lips bold, lightweight color with a liquid matte finish. Formulated with Advanced Polymer Technology, it ensures that your lip color last up to eight hours, and it won’t smudge, budge, or feather. It’s infused with Primer Oil complex to condition lips, and it features a range of vibrant, highly pigmented shades, and a precision tip applicator that perfectly lines and fills in lip color. It is formulated without parabens and pthalates.

Ingredients:
*Isododecane, Dimethicone, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Polybutene, Petrolatum, Cyclohexasiloxane, Kaolin, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Beeswax, Silica Dimethyl Silylate, Glyceryl Behenate/Eicosadioate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Propylene Carbonate, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil, Simmondsia Chinesis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Cyclopentasiloxane, Flavor, Caprylyl Glycol, Hexylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, [+/- Blue 1 Lake (CI 42090), Carmine (CI 75470), Iron Oxides (CI 77491), Iron Oxides (CI 77492), Iron Oxides (CI 77499), Mica, Red 6 (CI 15850), Red 7 Lake (CI 15850), Red 22 Lake (CI 45380), Red 28 (CI 45410), Red 28 Lake (CI 45410), Red 30 (CI 73360), Red 30 Lake (CI 73360), Red 33 Lake (CI 17200), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Yellow 5 Lake (CI 19140), Yellow 6 Lake (CI 15895).

Price:
US $24 / INR 2050 for 3.84 ml. The price is slightly higher, while the quantity is on the lower end of the spectrum compared to the other liquid lipsticks in this range – like Kat Von D ($20 for 6.6ml) and Huda Beauty ($20 for 5ml). This does make it an expensive lipstick in its league.

My Experience with Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick – Disorderly, Miss Conduct, Bawse:

Packaging:  Smashbox liquid lipsticks come packaged in a cuboid clear tube with a black cap. The clear tube makes it very convenient for one to identify the colour of the product. The outside packaging consists of a black cardboard cover with a color-coded stripe on it. The beauty of the packaging lies in 3 things – one is the distinct cuboid design with just the brand name emblazoned on it. And two, the applicator – which is tear-drop shaped with a small well/dip in the center. While the well allows you to pick up sufficient product for both lips – without having to dip the wand again, the sharp end of the applicator allows you to line your lips with precision.

This really helps you to get clean and clear lines. Also, the applicator spreads the product evenly on the lips. Since the size of the tube is small, the length of the wand is also small. This too, allows one, more precise application. Three, the neck of the tube is fitted with a silicone stopper which ensures that the applicator does not get loaded with too much product. It wipes the applicator as you pull it out, ensuring that there is just about the right amount of product on the wand to allow for a clean application.

The shades that I am reviewing today are – Disorderly, Miss Conduct and Bawse.

Disorderly: The shade is described by the brand as a “deep brick red.” To me, it seems way more deeper than a brick red. It is a deep, warm, red-toned brown. It’s quite a sophisticated shade and very striking. This would work so well for an elegant evening out. A shade which should work across skin tones – the lighter the skin tone, the more striking it would seem. I think it is one of those shades which will be quite flattering especially for our warm Asian skin tons.

Miss Conduct: Described by the brand as a “deep warm plum” color. While reviewing “Girl Gang,” I had mentioned that this line has a true plum shade – well, this is it! It is a deep plum shade, quite like a medium-aged red wine from burgundy. Again, a deep striking shade and very fall evening types. It should work across all skin tones again and look exceptionally flattering on our Asian skin tones.

The shades, Disorderly, Miss Conduct and Girl Gang are all deep beautiful shades. However, the difference between “Disorderly” and “Miss Conduct,” “Girl Gang” is quite nuanced. If you go by swatches, you will be left confused and underwhelmed. Confused because in swatches unless swatched side-by-side – these shades look fairly similar. You can see the distinctness of the colour only in a lip swatch.or full face pic. Also, the swatches may leave you underwhelmed – because one, they don’t really swatch as well as they apply and you really cannot make out the beauty of the shades from just arm swatches.

Bawse: The shade has already been reviewed, so I will keep this short. Described by the brand as a “deep red” color, – to me, it is a medium to deep red – almost neutral in tone. Not only does it have a balanced tone, even the shade itself is a beautiful balance between a deep red and a bright one. Quite Christmas-sy and perfect for the upcoming holiday season. The shade has been released in collaboration with Lilly Singh and I am afraid, I do not know much about the person as I have not watched her YouTube videos. The shade itself is a stunning red – which I am sure I will pull out on Christmas Eve.

Texture: These are made in Italy. The texture of these is lightly creamy, mousse like – though Miss Conduct seemed thinner/more liquid than the other two. They aren’t thick, but aren’t as liquid as Lime Crime or as lightweight as Huda Beauty either. The creaminess makes you feel that they may be heavy on the lips but they aren’t. The texture is fairly lightweight, but not entirely weightless. So, it does not feel heavy on the lips but at the same time, you don’t forget that you have lipstick on your lips (which can sometimes be a good thing!!) Once applied, it dries down fairly quickly, and gets totally budge-proof and transfer-proof. The texture on the shade – Disorderly and Miss Conduct is quite similar to that of True Grit and Chill Zone. It is fairly comfortable to wear, there is no feeling of lips being pulled, no feeling of dryness – not even a hint. The shade “Bawse,” on the other hand, seemed to have texture consistent with Some Nerve – you could feel the slight pull of dryness – while it initially dries down and during the wear. But overall, there is no “deathly drying” phase. It does not dry out your lips, nor does it hydrate.

Pigmentation: Pigmentation for “Disordely” and “Bawse” is fairly bang on – fully opaque in a swipe with smooth, even application. The shade “Miss Conduct” acts more like the shade “Girl Gang.” It can sheer out a bit, but is very easy to even out into intense colour, without actually layering or applying multiple coats. I do have to give it to Smashbox for the amazing level of pigmentation, especially for the darker shades. Generally, medium shades are easy to do, while darker shades end up sheering too much and applying streakily. However, in this collection, I find the texture and pigmentation of the darker shades to be even better than the medium shades! As mentioned earlier – do take into account that the shades dry down darker than when they first apply. So, when checking for colours, in store, do let the shade dry down completely before you decide to decide on the shade – coz it can go one or even 2 shades deeper post drying.

Smashbox Disorderly and Miss Conduct

Lasting Power:  “Disorderly” and “Miss Conduct” gave about 5.5-6 hours of wear time. This was mainly because the lipstick started crumbling ever so slightly form the inner corners of the mouth. And these being deep shades, the effect is distinctly visible and not flattering. Bawse, on the other hand, gave me about 6-6.5 hours of wear time. So, either ways, the lipsticks did not live upto the 8 hours claim by the brand. While formula of any lipstick breaks down when in contact with oil, these Smashbox lipsticks seem more susceptible.

They show more wear than other lipsticks like Kat Von D’s Everlasting, Lime Crime’s Velvetines and or even Colourpop Ultra Mattes. The shades do leave the hint of a stain, which is so light that it is barely there – and does not help in keeping up the appearance of a full lipstick. The only saving grace is that these layer well and so, easy to re-apply. The fresh coat merges seamlessly with the existing coat and you do not need to take it all off before re-application.

Fragrance: There is a slight sweet fragrance. I did not feel its presence while using the lipsticks. I obviously smelled them up close while penning this review. #lifeofabeautyblogger So, while there is a fragrance, it is very subtle and should not be a bother.

To sum this up for you:

Pros of Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick – Disorderly, Miss Conduct, Bawse:

  • Extremely beautiful, bold shades.
  • Lightweight texture.
  • Good pigmentation.
  • The shades are very comfortable to wear and they didn’t even create any dry patches post prolonged wear.
  • Very easy to apply with the applicator and get clean, crisp lines – The applicator is truly amazing!
  • It applies smoothly and evenly.
  • No feathering or bleeding.
  • Decent packaging.
  • Easy to identify colour from the tube itself.
  • Does not flake.

Cons of Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick – Disorderly, Miss Conduct, Bawse:

  • The wear time does not live upto the claims made by the brand of 8 hours of wear.
  • The quantity is almost half/less than half of other comparable brands in the market, in the same price range.
  • “Disorderly” and “Miss Conduct” appeared to start crumbling from the inner corners of the lip. You need to ensure very thin application in the inner corners – to counter this.

IMBB Rating:
A 4/5 product.

I love all 3 shades here. They look extremely stunning once on. I think the application of these is incredible – from the texture to pigmentation. However, the most remarkable part in the application is the actual applicator. The fact that it comes to almost a point, makes it so easy to get crisp clear lines with this mousse like formula. And obviously, when the application is good – the product looks good one you. I hope reviewing the shades together helps you see the nuanced difference and decide which shade you want.

    1. These are available in India – at Sephora and through Shoppersstop owned Stand-alone outlets. Just Google Sephora India – they have a online site as well! 🙂

    1. Yeah! I can just imagine wearing fitted jeans, leather booties, knit sweater and a lovely woollen scarf and one of these on the lips!!
