Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick Driver’s Seat, Out Loud, Stepping Out Review

Hey lovely ladies,

Today’s write-up is actually mini-reviews for some of the Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipsticks. These shades have already been reviewed on IMBB. I am just sharing my perspective – in comparison to the other shades in the range. And also, some pictures of the individual shades hoping they will help you in picking a shade from this range.

What else you need to know:
The Bawse shade is a collaboration between Smashbox and YouTube megastar Lilly Singh. It’s a red matte that’s inspired by her bold spirit with every swipe.

This product is cruelty-free and is formulated without sodium lauryl sulfate and talc.

Ingredients:
*Isododecane, Dimethicone, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Polybutene, Petrolatum, Cyclohexasiloxane, Kaolin, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Beeswax, Silica Dimethyl Silylate, Glyceryl Behenate/Eicosadioate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Propylene Carbonate, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil, Simmondsia Chinesis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Cyclopentasiloxane, Flavor, Caprylyl Glycol, Hexylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, [+/- Blue 1 Lake (CI 42090), Carmine (CI 75470), Iron Oxides (CI 77491), Iron Oxides (CI 77492), Iron Oxides (CI 77499), Mica, Red 6 (CI 15850), Red 7 Lake (CI 15850), Red 22 Lake (CI 45380), Red 28 (CI 45410), Red 28 Lake (CI 45410), Red 30 (CI 73360), Red 30 Lake (CI 73360), Red 33 Lake (CI 17200), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Yellow 5 Lake (CI 19140), Yellow 6 Lake (CI 15895).

Price:
US $24 / INR 2050 for 3.84ml
The price is slightly higher, while the quantity is on the lower end of the spectrum – compared to the other liquid lipsticks in this range. Like Kat Von D ($20 for 6.6ml) and Huda Beauty ($20 for 5ml). This does make it an expensive lipstick in its league.

My Experience with Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick Driver’s Seat, Out Loud, Stepping Out:

Packaging:
The Smashbox lipsticks come packaged in a cuboid clear tube with a black cap. The clear tube makes it very convenient for one to identify the colour of the product. The outer packaging consists of a black cardboard cover with a colour-coded stripe on it. The beauty of the packaging lies in three things. One, is the distinct cuboid design with just the brand name emblazoned on it. And two, the applicator, which has a teardrop shape with a small well or dip in the center.

While the well allows you to pick up sufficient product for both lips without having to dip the wand again the sharp end of the applicator allows you to line your lips with precision. This really helps you get clean and clear lines. Also, the applicator spreads the product evenly on the lips. Since the size of the tube is small, the length of the wand is also small. This also allows more precise application.

Three, the neck of the tube is fitted with a silicone stopper which ensures that the applicator does not get loaded with too much product. It wipes the applicator as you pull it out, ensuring there is just about the right amount of product on the wand to allow a clean application.

Fragrance:
There is a slight sweet fragrance. I did not feel its presence while using the lipsticks. I obviously smelled them up close while penning this review. #lifeofabeautyblogger So, while there is a fragrance, it is very subtle and should not bother anyone.

Driver’s Seat:
Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick Driver's Seat

The shade is described by the company as “warm pink.” It is a warm, dusty pink with a hint of peach. The shade is similar to Kat Von D’s Double Dare and Colourpop’s Bumble. I have been really liking this type of shades for over a year now. This is the kind of shade which I feel is no brainer – goes with everything and perfect for work or stepping out of the house.

I don’t feel too comfortable with a proper n*de shade and find such a shade a better alternative. The only flip side of this shade is that it turns a shade or 2 darker on drying – just like Colourpop Bumble. I personally prefer the shade when it is lighter.

Out Loud:

Described by the company as “deep orange”, it is a medium, warm orange with brown undertones. I quite like this shade. It reminds me of a Maybelline lipstick I used to wear a lot of when I initially started using lipsticks (for work). Unfortunately, this lipstick also dries down a shade or 2 darker than when you first apply it, which takes it to the medium to dark realm. And, I actually prefer the shade when it is lighter.

Texture wise, it is similar to Driver’s Seat, Babe Alert and Dream Huge. It is a lightly creamy liquid which spreads easily and sets with a budgeproof, transferproof and matte finish, which is absolutely comfortable on the lips. The pigmentation is good. You don’t need to build up the colour and it goes on evenly and smoothly. I get about 6.5-7 hours wear with this.

Stepping Out:
Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick Stepping Out

Described by the company as “Deep Nude”, this is a medium cool-toned beige brown shade with a hint of pink. Despite the hint of pink, I find this type of cool toned, neutral/n*de shades difficult to pull off unless I am sporting a cool toned eye look. This is not my favorite shade in the collection. Having said that, this would probably be the colour of choice for a cool toned female. More so because of the texture, too.

The texture of this one is also lightly creamy liquid – just like the previous 2 shades – but the formula performs differently. For one, it feels a tad bit drying. Also, it accentuates the lines on the lips. And the worst bit – it starts getting crumbly from the inner corner and inner portion of the lips with wear and not even eating.

The formula breaks down fairly quickly. And to add to the woe, the shade isn’t as pigmented as the rest of the shades in the line. I had to layer it to cover the extreme lip lines (where I have more pigmentation on my lips). This one lasted about 4.5-5 hours and that too wasn’t the best-looking at the end of it.

Cons of Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick Driver’s Seat, Out Loud, Stepping Out:

The wear time did not live upto the claims
The quantity is almost half/less than half of other comparable brands

IMBB Rating:
4.5/5 for Driver’s Seat and Out Loud
2.5/5 for Stepping Out

Stepping Out has been an aberration in terms of formula and pigmentation. However, the other two shades are very wearable and ‘in’ right now. Hope the mini reviews help you.
