Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick – In Demand, Let’s Dance, Big Spender Review

Hey gorgeous gals,

After reviewing some deep and some very unique shades from the Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick line, I have some light to medium shades to share with you. I have started to feel like an official liquid lipstick tester. Just when I say – ok, enough now, no more liquid lipsticks – something again catches the eye! I really need to get off social media! NOW!! In the interim, let us find out about the shades in hand. I am reviewing for you the shade In Demand and Let’s Dance. Big Spender has already been reviewed by my gorgeous friend Neetu Lohani. So, I’ll just share my quick inputs and some pics with you, on that.

Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick In Demand Lets Dance and Big Spender Review

Ingredients:
*Isododecane, Dimethicone, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Polybutene, Petrolatum, Cyclohexasiloxane, Kaolin, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Beeswax, Silica Dimethyl Silylate, Glyceryl Behenate/Eicosadioate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Propylene Carbonate, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil, Simmondsia Chinesis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Cyclopentasiloxane, Flavor, Caprylyl Glycol, Hexylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, [+/- Blue 1 Lake (CI 42090), Carmine (CI 75470), Iron Oxides (CI 77491), Iron Oxides (CI 77492), Iron Oxides (CI 77499), Mica, Red 6 (CI 15850), Red 7 Lake (CI 15850), Red 22 Lake (CI 45380), Red 28 (CI 45410), Red 28 Lake (CI 45410), Red 30 (CI 73360), Red 30 Lake (CI 73360), Red 33 Lake (CI 17200), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Yellow 5 Lake (CI 19140), Yellow 6 Lake (CI 15895).

Price:
US $24 / INR 2050 for 3.84 ml.  The price is slightly higher, while the quantity is on the lower end of the spectrum – compared to the other liquid lipsticks in this range. Like Kat Von D ($20 for 6.6ml) and Huda Beauty ($20 for 5ml). This does make it an expensive lipstick in its league.

My Experience with Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick – In Demand, Let’s Dance, Big Spender:

Packaging:  Smashbox lipsticks come packaged in a cuboid clear tube with a black cap. The clear tube makes it very convenient for one to identify the colour of the product. The outside packaging consists of a black cardboard cover with a colour-coded stripe on it. The beauty of the packaging lies in 3 things. One is the distinct cuboid design with just the brand name emblazoned on it. And two, the applicator – which is tear drop shaped with a small well/dip in the center.

While the well allows you to pick up sufficient product for both lips – without having to dip the wand again; the sharp end of the applicator allows you to line your lips with precision. This really helps you to get clean and clear lines. Also, the applicator spreads the product evenly on the lips. Since the size of the tube is small, the length of the wand is also small. This too, allows one, more precise application. Three, the neck of the tube is fitted with a silicone stopper which ensures that the applicator does not get loaded with too much product. It wipes the applicator as you pull it out, ensuring that there is just about the right amount of product on the wand to allow for a clean application.

Shade: The two shades that I am reviewing today are – In Demand, Let’s Dance, and also Big Spender.

In Demand:
The shade is described by the brand as a “pink neutral.” It is a light, peachy, slightly milky, nude shade. When you first apply it, it looks almost pastel in colour and very unbecoming – atleast on my light-medium skin tone. However, as it dries, it takes on a more peachy tone and is a bit more workable. I feel it to look just about tolerable on me. It does help balance out a more vivid eye look. I think, this is a shade which would look flattering on a fair to light skin tone.

Let’s Dance: Described by the brand as a “deep fuchsia” color. The shade is a medium, cool, pink toned purple – just the kind I absolutely love! And I do love my purples. This is one of the more obvious purples and yet wearable. I totally love such shades and gravitate towards them. I seem to have reviewed a handful of purples/violets in this week – this is probably the most wear-able of the lot. This would work across all skin tones and would brighten up any face.

Big Spender: This shade is already reviewed by Neetu. Described by the brand as a “Rose” – it is a medium pinkish rose shade with hints of mauve in it. This type of shades are generally best sellers in the line coz they give the rosey look to the lips, are easy to carry off and flattering on most skin tones. Big Spender fits right in – into this brief.

Texture: These are made in Italy. The texture of these is lightly creamy, mousse like – though Big Spender seemed more liquid than the other 2 shades. They aren’t thick, but aren’t as liquid as Lime Crime or as lightweight as Huda Beauty either. The creaminess makes you feel that they may be heavy on the lips, but they aren’t. The texture is fairly lightweight – but not entirely weightless. So, it does not feel heavy on the lips but at the same time, you don’t forget that you have lipstick on your lips (which can sometimes be a good thing!!) Once applied, it dries down fairly quickly, and gets totally budge-proof and transfer-proof. The texture of all 3 shades is similar in wear. When you initially apply it, and it is drying down, you feel the slight pull on your lips, but as time goes on, it gets more comfortable on the lips. There is no feeling of dryness – not even a hint.

All three shades settle into a fully matte finish. While they are comfortable on the lips, they can appear to accentuate the lines on the lips. In medium to dark shades, this is more forgiving – coz the depth of the colour masks the lines to an extent. However, for the shade, In Demand, being light, the lip lines seem quite prominent and unflattering. Would suggest prepping the lips well before using In Demand.

Pigmentation:  Pigmentation for all 3 shades is bang on – fully opaque in a single, swipe with smooth, even application. Smashbox has done a good job with the pigmentation of this collection. It is good in dark to medium to even light shades like “In Demand.” Do take into account that the shades dry down darker than when they first apply. So, when checking for colours, in store, do let the shade dry down completely before you decide to decide on the shade because it can go one or even two shades deeper post drying.

Lasting Power:  The shade In Demand and Let’s Dance, performed better than the average (so far). They gave about 7-7.5 hours of wear time, while Big Spender was still about 6-6.5 hours. All said, it is still below the claims made by the Company – of 8 hours. The shades do not leave much of a stain. The hint of a stain – which is so light that it is barely there – and does not help in keeping up the appearance of a full lipstick. The only saving grace is that these layer well and so, easy to re-apply. The fresh coat merges seamlessly with the existing coat and you do not need to take it all off before re-application.

Fragrance: There is a slight sweet fragrance. I did not feel its presence while using the lipsticks. I obviously smelled them up close while penning this review. #lifeofabeautyblogger So, while there is a fragrance, it is very subtle and should not be a bother.

To sum this up for you:

Pros of Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick – In Demand, Let’s Dance, Big Spender:

  • Extremely beautiful array of shades – a peachy n*de, a wearable purple and a mauve-ish rose.
  • Lightweight texture.
  • Good pigmentation.
  • The shades were very comfortable to wear and they didn’t even create any dry patches post prolonged wear.
  • Texture became more comfortable as time went on – instead of getting more drying.
  • Very easy to apply with the applicator and get clean, crisp lines – the applicator is truly amazing!
  • It applies smoothly and evenly.
  • No feathering or bleeding.
  • Decent packaging.
  • Easy to identify colour from the tube itself.
  • Does not flake.

Cons of Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick – In Demand, Let’s Dance, Big Spender:

  • The wear time does not live upto the claims made by the brand of 8 hours of wear.
  • The quantity is almost half/less than half of other comparable brands in the market, in the same price range.

IMBB Rating:
A 4.5/5 product.

Overall quality of the lipsticks is good, even if they aren’t the longest lasting lipsticks. I love how easy they are to apply and how comfortable they are on the lips. Big Spender and Let’s Dance are easily wear-able shades and flattering too. However, the shade In Demand may work better for someone with light to fair skin tones.
