Ingredients:
*Isododecane, Dimethicone, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Polybutene, Petrolatum, Cyclohexasiloxane, Kaolin, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Beeswax, Silica Dimethyl Silylate, Glyceryl Behenate/Eicosadioate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Propylene Carbonate, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil, Simmondsia Chinesis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Cyclopentasiloxane, Flavor, Caprylyl Glycol, Hexylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, [+/- Blue 1 Lake (CI 42090), Carmine (CI 75470), Iron Oxides (CI 77491), Iron Oxides (CI 77492), Iron Oxides (CI 77499), Mica, Red 6 (CI 15850), Red 7 Lake (CI 15850), Red 22 Lake (CI 45380), Red 28 (CI 45410), Red 28 Lake (CI 45410), Red 30 (CI 73360), Red 30 Lake (CI 73360), Red 33 Lake (CI 17200), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Yellow 5 Lake (CI 19140), Yellow 6 Lake (CI 15895).

Price:
US $24 / INR 2050 for 3.84 ml. The price is slightly higher, while the quantity is on the lower end of the spectrum – compared to the other liquid lipsticks in this range. Like Kat Von D ($20 for 6.6ml) and Huda Beauty ($20 for 5ml). This does make it an expensive lipstick in its league.

My Experience with Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick – Shockaholic, Blast Off, Bang Bang, Thrill Seeker:

Packaging: Smashbox lipsticks come packaged in a cuboid clear tube with a black cap. The clear tube makes it very convenient for one to identify the colour of the product. The outside packaging consists of a black cardboard cover with a color-coded stripe on it. The beauty of the packaging lies in 3 things – one is the distinct cuboid design with just the brand name emblazoned on it. And two, the applicator – which is tear-dropped shape with a small well/dip in the center. While the well allows you to pick up sufficient product for both lips, without having to dip the wand again; the sharp end of the applicator allows you to line your lips with precision. This really helps you to get clean and clear lines. Also, the applicator spreads the product evenly on the lips. Since the size of the tube is small, the length of the wand is also small. This too, allows one, more precise application. Three, the neck of the tube is fitted with a silicone stopper which ensures that the applicator does not get loaded with too much product. It wipes the applicator as you pull it out, ensuring that there is just about the right amount of product on the wand to allow for a clean application.

There is a slight sweet fragrance. I did not feel its presence while using the lipsticks. I obviously smelled them up close while penning this review. #lifeofabeautyblogger So, while there is a fragrance, it is very subtle and should not be a bother.

Shockaholic: The shade is described by the brand as a “bright pink” color.  It is a medium, cool-toned bright hot pink shade. This one is bright and seriously attractive. While I used to love such shades at one time, I am drawn less to them now because with something this bright on the lips, I feel the need to tone down my eye look. Inversely, when I am pressed for time, a shade like Shockaholic and Baja Bound come in real handy by being the centre of attention. So, I can easily get away with a plain black liner on the eyes. In terms of texture, it was lightly creamy and mousse like.

It spreads easily and settles to a budge proof, transfer proof matte finish. However, with this shade, I could feel a little tightness on the lips as it was drying. I did not get the feeling of weightlessness or total comfort. While it was not uncomfortable, I did not forget that I had lipstick on. Having said all that, I felt that the formula felt more comfortable as time went on – instead of feeling more drying. The pigmentation is good – covers the lips evenly and does not need to be built up. I get about 6.5 – 7 hours wear with this.

Blast Off: The shade described by the brand as a “bright pink coral.” It is amedium, extremely bright, red to raspberry, pink-toned coral. I feel that Baja Bound – the other coral shade in the line is more pink toned and less brighter than this. This is quite a stunning shade – as long as you are comfortable wearing such bright shades. In terms of texture, it felt more creamy liquid.

It spreads easily and applies smoothly. When applying, I felt the texture may be consistent with the better performing Babe Alert and Dream Huge. However, even though I didn’t feel the pull on my lips while it was drying, I felt that the lipstick became more drying as time went on. It isn’t that the lipstick makes you uncomfortable and wants you reaching for the lip balm, but it isn’t weightless or hydrating wither. The pigmentation is good. You don’t need to build up the colour – it goes on evenly and smoothly. I get about 6.5-7 hours wear with this.

Bang Bang: Described by the brand as a “yellow red,” this is a medium, bright, warm, yellow-toned red. Between this and Bawse (the other red in the collection) – I much prefer Bawse – The shade is deeper than this and has more substance. I do not find anything special in this red to recommend it. In terms of texture, it has a lightly creamy mousse like texture – like most other shades in this line.

However, I did find it slightly drying as it wore. Also, in terms of pigmentation, this falls short. With a single coat, I did not get even and smooth coverage. I had to go in with half a coat again to make it look seamless. In the lip swatches, I have used a single coat – so that you are able to see the pigmentation on this. Strangely enough, unlike all other shades in this line, this one is not transfer proof. It does transfer a little every time it comes in touch with another surface. I do wonder if it is because there is more than one layer applied. However, if you do buy this, I think your focus would be to get an even finish on your lips – so you will have no choice but to layer. It lasted about 6.5-7hours. So wear time wasn’t too bad.

Thrill Seeker: Described by Smashbox as a “bright red orange” – this is a medium, bright orange-toned red. In short, this is the the “Lady Danger” of this collection. The texture was consistent – lightly creamy, mousse-like texture; however, the performance was not. The lipstick applied streaky.

The pigmentation had much to be desired. Even when you try to spread the pigment evenly – it just doesn’t. To get an even finish, you need to go in with a second layer. However, this adds texture to the lips and is not very flattering. Also, the lipstick transfer a bit on coming in contact with another surface. Again, I feel that this is because of the fact that you have to apply 2 layers instead of one. So, it takes more time to dry down and settle. The shade did give me about 6.5-7hours of wear time. But, I still feel that this is definitely one of the weaker shades in the range and one which I cannot recommend.

To sum this up for you:

Pros of Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick – Shockaholic, Blast Off, Bang Bang, Thrill Seeker:

  • Interesting array of shades.
  • Light, creamy, mousse-like texture.
  • Overall good pigmentation – except for Bang Bang and Thrill Seeker.
  • The shades were very comfortable to wear and they didn’t even create any dry patches post prolonged wear (except Bang Bang).
  • The texture became more comfortable as time went on – instead of getting more drying.
  • Very easy to apply with the applicator and get clean, crisp lines – the applicator is truly amazing!
  • These liquid lipsticks apply smoothly and evenly.
  • No feathering or bleeding.
  • Decent packaging.
  • Easy to identify colour from the tube itself.
  • Does not flake.

Cons of Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick – Shockaholic, Blast Off, Bang Bang, Thrill Seeker:

  • The wear time does not live up to claims made by the brand of 8 hours of wear.
  • The quantity is almost half/less than half of other comparable brands in the market, in the same price range.
  • The “reds” in this range seem to be low-performing shades.

IMBB Rating:
A 4/5 – For Shockaholic and Blast Off
A 3/5 – For Bang Bang
A 2.5/5 – For Thrill Seeker

I am surprised by the performance – or lack of it, of the red shades. In the generally high-performing formula – I find these shades to be an aberration. I cannot recommend either Bang Bang or Thrill Seeker. I would rather suggest that you get Fenty Beauty Uncensored!! 😉 Do check out its review too!!
