Smashbox Camera Ready Full Coverage Concealer Review

Product Purchased by IMBB

I am always perfectly willing to try a new concealer. It’s because I’m still trying to find “the one.” One concealer to rule the mall…one concealer to…well actually, just one that can effectively cover my dark circles AND any redness. The Smashbox Camera Ready Full Coverage Concealer seems like it could be the one because look at that name – Camera Ready,Full Coverage. Let’s see:

Smashbox Camera Ready Full Coverage Concealer

Price:

20 USD.

$20 doesn’t seem like too bad a price, right? I find it kind of expensive though, considering the size of this product. It’s in a sleek, small black tube in a matte finish, like Nars’ packaging.  It’s noticeably slimmer than a lipstick. It looks teeny, especially when the tube is opened and the product is swiveled up, because it is. It contains .08 ounces/2.3 grams of product, which is not a lot, and pricier compared to MAC’s cream concealer, the Studio Finish Concealer, which is $19 and contains .24 ounces/7 grams of product.

The small size does have its advantages. Combined with a slanted tip, it makes for very convenient application on small areas on my face. I swipe the stick directly on my skin, which is the easiest and most efficient way to use it.

It has a mild scent that I barely detect. It applies quite smoothly for a cream/stick concealer—one of the best features of this product, in my opinion. Even when I swipe it on rather carelessly, like when I am in a rush or applying makeup in the car, it doesn’t cake, look streaky, or drag on the skin. I love that it doesn’t pile up on the skin, no matter how heavily I apply it. It’s not stiff, dry, or waxy.

It’s lightweight on the skin and doesn’t feel sticky or moist. Basically after I apply it, I don’t feel it on my face, whether the day is cool or humid.  Now, let’s discuss the “full coverage” part.  Er…not really. I find that it gives medium coverage, at best. The areas that I want to conceal are my gray-purple under the eyes, the redness around my nose, and any blemishes (basically, areas with different levels of pigmentation).  This concealer makes them look a little better, and they don’t stand out as much as when I am bare-faced, but they’re still visible. This doesn’t conceal them.

It does look natural on my skin though.  The finish of it is semi-matte and it blends on the skin easily. I swipe the stick directly on my skin, pat gently with my finger, and it’s good to go.

The Smashbox Camera Ready Full Coverage Concealer is available in six shades. What I have is shade 5 Golden Beige. I have medium, yellow-toned skin, NC 35 at MAC. 5 Golden Beige seems more neutral-toned than warm-toned, but it blends into my skin tone and doesn’t look ashy or too light. There is only one shade darker than this one, so I don’t know if there are any shades that would suit much darker skin tones than mine.

It wears for about five hours my skin before it starts fading. I think due to the light-medium coverage, natural finish, and average staying power, it should be fine for a quick jaunt or errand, but not for when you need to be camera-ready or need makeup that lasts for many hours.

  • Has a lightweight feel on skin.
  • Doesn’t irritate my skin.
  • Mildly scented.

Cons of Smashbox Camera Ready Full Coverage Concealer:

  • Pricey for a small amount of face product.

  • The matte packaging attracts dirt and fingerprints.

Would I Repurchase Smashbox Camera Ready Full Coverage Concealer?

No.

IMBB Rating:

3.25/5

It’s nice that it applies so smoothly and looks natural, but the coverage it gives is too light for my needs and I prefer a concealer that will last all day. Unfortunately, it’s not “the one,” but thankfully, there are still 9549075 concealers out there to try.

    1. Umm that’s a very close macro shot of the product (swatch was like an inch long in person) on my arm, so the lines on my skin were naturally magnified in the photo. It doesn’t look that way in person/on my face. *specs*

  1. Im still looking for my HG concealer too….ya, there are 9549075 still to try!! 🙂

Great review Gal, as usual! Trust the kids are doing well…

    1. There’s out a lot out there that I haven’t tried yet and seem to be good…like MUFE, Shu, Shiseido, Laura Mercier, Clinique, MAC alone has several kinds… *powder*

Thanks, KK! They are. Hope your kids are doing well also? 🙂

  2. fab review ida. sad it did not turn out to be that good. I also end up having issues with matte packaging (nars). But this looks soo good and easy to use. 🙂

    1. Thank you, Rati. 🙂 Right! The packaging of my oldest Nars product literally melted…I had to depot and throw the compact in the trash. Hope this one won’t be like that. It’s quite handy!

  3. Great review Ida,.. I so like the packaging of this concealer but sad it didnt turn out to be exceptionally good. I currently use mac pro long wear and its kind of good.. not great but it lasts for long

    1. Thank you, Purva. 🙂 Very convenient, the packaging of this one, but yeah, it’s so-so. I haven’t actually tried a single concealer by MAC. Might check the pro long wear.
