Today, I am going to review a gimmicky product from Smashbox. It is their “Insta-Matte Lipstick Transformer“. Ever had a favorite lip color that was only available in a high gloss finish when you really needed a matte? Now, this problem is solved by this product. It is basically a clear gel that can be applied on top of a cream lipstick to convert it to a matte lippie. Cool isn’t? So, let’s see how this one performed.

My Experience with Smashbox Insta-Matte Lipstick Transformer:
Normally, the Insta-Matte comes housed in a black plastic tube with a slanted nozzle applicator. There is also a black outer box which contains all the product details and other stuff. Since I got this in a Christmas set, my product came packed in a cute limited packaging of white tube with red lips printed all over it. The packaging is convenient and easy to use.
As I said before, Insta-Matte is a soft transparent gel that can be applied on our cream lipsticks to transform them into a matte lipstick. These are not to be used with glosses, lacquers or balms. It will turn the lipstick into matte finish, but won’t change the colour of the lipstick either.
This is really a comfortable lightweight product that feels cushiony and soft on the lips. It doesn’t add dryness that most matte lipsticks have and it maintains the colour perfectly as said before.
Application wise, I apply my cream lipstick first, then pop a little bit of this Insta Matte gel on to my finger tip and blend that directly onto my lipstick. It has no specific scent what so ever. With this gel, only a tiny amount is needed for the transformation, so a little goes a long way with this product and also dries down in a jiffy.
It’s the easiest method we can think of to instantly double our lipstick options. It seems like a magic, but really the clear gel creates a filter of silicone polymers that sit on top of your lipstick. According to Smashbox, those polymers reflect light and absorb oils from the lipstick underneath to take away its shine. The silicones in the gel also bind to the lipstick and make it wear longer, without any feathering or cracking.
Overall, I am impressed with this product. I love that the Insta-Matte allows you to have perfect matte finish that everyone loves without sacrificing comfort. Usually, matte liquid lipsticks can hardcore dry your lips out. But with this, you can use your most moisturizing lipstick, put a little Insta-Matte on top and you’ll be left with the ideal matte finish. This one is awesome and Smashbox has really nailed it. I am really mind blown and impressed.
