St. Ives Coconut Milk and Orchid Extract Body Lotion Review

Hey guys!

Today, I will be talking about St. Ives Naturally Indulgent Coconut Milk and Orchid Extract Body Lotion.  Gotta hand it over to these beauty brands, their names are always quite a mouthful, but does this lotion’s performance live up to its big name? Read on to find out!

Product Description:

This body lotion promises to provide “deep, long-lasting moisture” and to “leave skin feeling silky and smooth.” It has a “non-greasy formula that allows your skin to breathe, even during hot weather.” Furthermore, it is “made with 100 percent natural moisturizers that have been proven effective, gently absorbing into the skin.” It is “dermatologist-tested,” and “gentle enough for sensitive skin.”

The lotion comes packaged in a large plastic bottle with a pump. The bottle is white with pink accents, making the packaging look really modern and pretty. A pretty picture of coconuts and orchids graces the front of the bottle.

My Experience of St. Ives Coconut Milk and Orchid Extract Body Lotion:

I am not a fan of coconut fragrances and flavors, but the Orchid Extract aspect of this lotion piqued my interest as I walked past it at the store. At 5 dollars for 22 oz (I got 25% extra product for free!) this was a deal I couldn’t pass up. When I got home, I noticed the bottle says that the product contains no parabens and phthalates and is formulated with all natural moisturizers. Well, that’s what you call a win-win situation! I am pretty sure you couldn’t find a cheaper paraben and phthalate free lotion on the market.

This lotion’s smell can best be described as tropical. The coconut isn’t that prominent and balances off nicely with the floral notes in the fragrance. The fragrance is very pleasing, long lasting and not overpowering at all. This lotion has a very light texture, which helps the skin absorb it immediately after application. I absolutely loathe putting on lotions after a shower and then waiting 15 minutes for my skin to absorb it lest it rub off on my clothes. With this lotion, I don’t have to wait nearly as long, even when I use it on skin that’s quite moist.

The lotion is very hydrating and moisturizing. It makes the skin soft without leaving a trace of oiliness or stickiness behind. For those with very dry skin, this is just as moisturizing as thick creams and body butters, without any of the greasiness those bring with them. I think this lotion is perfect for summers because of its tropical smell and light texture. I will be using this more and more as we transition from winter to spring.

The one downside, in my opinion, to this product is that it contains mineral and silicone oil (dimethicone). Mineral oil is technically a natural moisturizer, so they are not lying on the packaging. My main gripe with mineral and silicone oil is that they just don’t hydrate the skin. For that reason, I think I won’t be using this lotion much in the winter, when my skin is very dry. For reasons that I have stated above, I still think this is a really great summer moisturizer for all skin types.
