St. Ives Fresh Skin Moisturizing Olive Cleanser
Hello Ladies!
I am a big fan of ShuUemura Cleansing Oil. It’s the best I have ever used for my drying skin and I am actually saving to buy a bottle very soon. But as a frugal girl who tends to find dupes for high end cosmetics in drugstores, I of course tried to find a cheaper alternative to this expensive cleansing oil. I found this St. Ives Fresh Skin Moisturizing Olive Cleanser. Let me share with you how it worked on my dry skin.

My Take on St. Ives Fresh Skin Moisturizing Olive Cleanser
I have decided to try this cleansing oil from St. Ives because I thought this may have at least better capacity to moisturize my face this winter than other facial soaps. ShuEumura by the way, has kept my skin soft, smooth moisturized and almost pore less the entire time I am using it. That makes me easy to try other oils in the market.
St. Ives Fresh Skin Moisturizing Olive Cleanser comes in a clear, plastic pump bottle which is a convenient and attractive packaging. I love how I can see the oil from the outside. The olive translucent color is just gorgeous. It has 200 ml of product inside and I bought my bottle for $3 from a dollar store here in Canada. The consistency of the product itself is thicker than that of the cleansing oil of ShuUemura, which isn’t an olive oil based cleanser as far I remember. I think St. Ives cleanser’s thickness is about the same thickness of the olive oil we have in our kitchen, or a bit thicker I believe.
The scent is much similar to kitchen olive oil. Something I do not like honestly. But this product claiming to have 100% natural extracts, what’s better than that? Smell is the last thing to turn me off. I don’t think they added perfume to mask the smell which I like. They just keep simple ingredients in it, less irritants for me.
This St. Ives Olive Cleanser is easy to spread unto face and it does not lather. I find cleansers that don’t lather to be less drying. But with this one, I feel that it dried out my skin after every wash. It felt dry and dry patches soon emerged after wash. I also feel itch on some part of my face which is tolerable but it bothers me. I do feel that I have allergic reactions to this cleansing oil. I do have sensitive skin and this is definitely a no-go for me.
Pros of St. Ives Fresh Skin Moisturizing Olive Cleanser:
-The packaging is appealing and user friendly
-It has 100% natural extracts in it
-It is affordable for $3 per bottle from a dollar store. Cost a little more in regular grocery stores, around $5, more or less.
-St. Ives a popular brand, easy to find
Cons of St. Ives Fresh Skin Moisturizing Olive Cleanser
-It smells like kitchen olive oil
-It irritated my skin. It caused itching.
-It left my skin rough.
-It dried my skin out
Final Thoughts:
Again, this is a no-go for me and for my sensitive skin. I’ve stopped using it after 3 trials since I keep on getting the same effects. This is such a sad review. Anyways, right now I am all focused on getting a bottle of ShuUemura cleansing oil. I’ll write about that when I snagged a bottle already.
