Stila Aqua Glow Perfecting Primer Review

Hello everyone,

This review will be on the Stila Aqua Glow Perfecting Primer.

Stila Aqua Glow Perfecting Primer

Product Description:
A cooling, water-based primer stick that preps skin for makeup application.

What it does:
Create the perfect canvas for your makeup application with this refreshing primer stick. Aqua Glow Perfecting Primer is packed with cooling ingredients that leave skin looking silky, even, and pore-perfected while hydrating and soothing the skin.  The Alaskan glacial water hydrates, smooths, and reduces the appearance of pores. A blend of snow drop and aloe extracts works to protect skin from free radicals and UV rays, while lemon extract combats fatigue and transforms skin so that it’s supple and refreshed. The result – pores seem tightened, redness appears reduced, and skin texture looks visibly smoothed.  It is formulated without parabens, sulfates, phthalates.

Ingredients

My Experience with Stila Aqua Glow Perfecting Primer:

Packaging:  When I saw this product, I basically thought “wow, primer in a stick! that should be interesting to try.” I have recently been loving products which comes in a stick due to the convenience of application plus the travel friendliness, no more juggling liquids around in your makeup kit which may or may not be allowed on a flight.  The only thing I don’t like about this packaging is that it does not retract back, so I have to be careful not to twist it too high maybe I just received a faulty item, but it is a big inconvenience. Other than that, I like the light gold tube and the mint blue product inside.

Label

Texture and Application:  This is basically a water-based moisturizer/primer in a stick format. You simply swipe it on your skin and blend it out with your fingers. It feels a little bit cooling initially, but the feeling is relaxing and not bothersome and goes away quickly. It gets absorbed within seconds into the skin and leaves behind no greasy or tacky residue.  Due to this quality, I feel this product is even suitable for oily skin. It goes on complete colorless.

Packaging

Feel and look on skin:  This product basically feels like a lightweight moisturizer on my skin. It is not overly hydrating, so if you have very dry skin, you may have to use this in addition to your moisturizer, but if you have normal-dry skin, you will love this. It leaves my skin feeling so silky smooth without any residue and basically feeling like my natural skin. I feel like it blurs the look of my pores but does not eliminate them like a silicone primer. It leaves a very light subtle glow on my skin which is not very apparent but it just makes my skin look refreshed.

Functionality:  I find that this primer makes my foundation go over it so much better and smoother. I see far less creasing and my foundation does not cling to my dry patches as much. It does not make my skin look shiny for a good amount of time (around 5-6 hours) and improves how my foundation wears and looks on my skin. I don’t necessarily see it prolonging the wear of my makeup.

Primer

Fragrance:  I love the scent of this product. It is a bit minty but mostly smells like a cool breeze which is very refreshing.

Overall, I do like this product, but I won’t consider it a must have. It is basically like a lightweight water-based moisturizer in stick. I like the novelty of this product and it does feel refreshing on my skin, and it’s a good addition to my regular makeup routine, but I will not be replacing my regular primer or moisturizer with this. If you have dry skin, you will really enjoy this product. I will recommend this.

Pros of Stila Aqua Glow Perfecting Primer:

  • Convenient, easy-to-use stick format.
  • Lightweight and fast absorbing.
  •  Non-greasy texture, does not leave behind any residue.
  • Blurs out the appearance of pores to some extent, but if you have problematic pores, you may still need to use a silicone-based primer.
  • Feels cooling and refreshing on the skin.
  • Makes my foundation sit better on my skin.
  • Colorless on skin, hence all skin tones can use it.
  • Reduces the appearance of dry patches and fine lines under makeup.
  • Can be used on its own or under makeup.
  •  Smells like a fresh breeze.

Cons of Stila Aqua Glow Perfecting Primer:

  • Stick does not retract back. I don’t know if it is just my stick or if this is how it is made.
  • Not a must have.
  • Bound to get over quickly. I feel like a lot gets used up for a single application.
