Stila Illuminating Liquid Foundation Review

Stila Illuminating Liquid Foundation

I have had my eye on the Stila Illuminating Liquid Foundation for quite some time now. I had even tried those samples that Sephora offers at times. Finally I went ahead and chose this product for this month’s review! Read ahead to see how I liked it.

My Experience with Stila Illuminating Liquid Foundation:

The Stila Illuminating Liquid Foundation comes in a clear glass jar with a black cap. I am totally all for foundations with pumps and this one has it, thankfully! The pump does not dispense too much of the foundation, just a little at a time, that way I can control the amount I need without wasting any product. The color I use is “50 watts”. Buying foundation online is very tricky, especially when you don’t know your color match, which is what happened to me. I took a guess and ordered the shade 50 watts and when I got it I thought it would be too light for me but once I applied it, it seemed just my shade and it blended in very well with my skin. So do not let the color of the bottle fool you! I like to apply it with a foundation brush but fingers work just as well. This foundation gives you an option to build up the coverage you desire. It goes on sheer when not using too much product which is perfect for those who do not require too much coverage. For me, I just double that amount and apply depending on how much coverage I need that day. It definitely does not look very heavy or cakey, even after adding more foundation for more coverage. It has a very nice and smooth consistency plus the liquid is not too runny. As Stila claims, it does give an “illuminating” look to the face because it has very, very small hints of shimmer in it. It gives a nice dewy finish but it never goes over the top. In my opinion, this foundation is mainly aimed for people with either normal skin or dry skin.

It definitely will be a bit of a hassle for people with oily skin because it gives a dewy finish and that does not fit well with oily skin. On the other hand, for people with dry skin or combination, it moisturizes the face very nicely and my dry patches of skin never show through. Plus, it does not settle into the pores, even without a primer which is highly impressive. This foundation is also very long lasting. I have worn this out to the beach and it has lasted me all day in the hot weather without budging. Just note that it does not have any kind of SPF! Overall, this is a decent foundation, and I cannot complain since it does everything it claims. Only though ladies with oily skin, just keep your blotting papers within reach!

IMBB Rating: 4.5/5

This foundation is amazing but I wish it worked well for oily skin too hence I took off half a point.

Would I repurchase Stila foundation? No I do not think I will be repurchasing this. It is a costly product and I’d rather spend that money and try out different foundations. It is definitely a good foundation but why should I stop my search for the perfect foundation here, I am sure there are better ones out there.

  1. I love anything that says dewy and Stila is an awesome brand I have heard. Glad the risk of the right shade paid off 🙂 I have combination skin so am never sure. These days I learnt the new trick of using a bit of Vaseline on my cheekbones after applying makeup and that’s giving the reqd shine. Till I master the courage of going beyond primer+ concealer + foundation + compact, Vaseline it is
