Stila Patina Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick Review

This is a lipstick that has been on my wishlist for years and years now, and I have finally managed to get it now. There is immense hype surrounding these liquid lipsticks. So, do they deserve it? Read on and find out.

What it is:

This creamy, full-coverage lip color provides intense hydration with bold, long-lasting pigment that stays put for up to six hours of continuous wear. Featuring an array of matte and shimmer shades, this lip formula imparts a comfortable texture that feels lightweight on lips, and its color-rich formula does not bleed or transfer. Enriched with vitamin E and avocado oil, Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick hydrates and softens lips so they look and feel beautiful.  It is formulated without parabens, sulfates, and phthalates.  This product is free of synthetic dyes, petrochemicals, GMOs, and triclosan.

Ingredients:

Packaging:  The lipstick comes in a long, clear tube with a black cap. It comes with a traditional doe-foot applicator that is tapered on one side. It is also quite flexible, so you have a good amount of control on the application. The shade name is written on the bottom of the clear tube.

My Experience with Stila Patina Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick:

Shade: The shade “Patina” is a light pink color. It goes on very very light pink but gets just a bit darker as it sits on the lips. To be honest, I didn’t think the shade will be so light. So, if you are NC43 and above, I recommend swatching before buying because it is very light and can look ashy on deep-tan to deep skin tones.

Texture/Consistency: On its own, it is incredibly matte and so unforgiving on dry lips. It can flake on the inner corner of the mouth and cling on to dry patches. If you touch your lips after it sets, you can see a few flakes. So, I highly recommend exfoliating thoroughly before using this. After it sets, it becomes a smudge-free, transfer-proof product. Its texture is like whipped mousse; it is very creamy at the same time and very airy. It is fully opaque and glides on the lips beautifully.

If your lips are in good condition, this product does not feel drying at all, but on the other hand, if you have dehydrated and chapped lips, you might find this drying. It also gets on to the teeth, which I am not a fan of. I bought this product more for the shade than the matte finish. This product is very different than the Rimmel Provocalips, because that is the only other product in my experience that dries down completely matte. The Rimmel one, when it dries down, feels so drying that the Step 2 balm that they provide is a necessity.

This isn’t like that, it stays fairly comfortable on its own throughout the day. One weird thing that I have noticed is that when I layer a lip gloss on top or a lip balm underneath, the Stila liquid lipstick moves and loses its transfer-proof finish. It behaves like a regular lipstick. So, if you want a budge-proof finish, I recommend using this product on its own.

I use this product with the Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in the shade “Sultry.”

It is a perfect match made in heaven because the Revlon shade is a shade darker than the Patina, so I use it on the outer corners and fill the centre with Patina.

Cons of Stila Patina Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick:

• Loses its transfer-proof finish if used with any other product – like a lip balm underneath or gloss on top.
• Can get on the teeth a bit.
• This particular shade is too light for me (I am NC44 in MAC).

Would I Recommend Stila Patina Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick?
Yes absolutely. They have a fairly good range of brights and neutrals (14 for now) and a couple of them even have a “sheen” in them, in case you don’t like the matte finish lipsticks.
