StreetWear Luminous Eye Shadow Review

StreetWear  Luminous Shadow Review

StreetWear Luminous eye shadows are not recent products – they’ve been in the Indian market for about three years now.  Even though I’ve been using other products from this brand, strangely I hadn’t heard of them until this July! I remember I was shopping with my sister who wanted to buy a lip gloss and on an impulse we went over to the first counter which happened to be StreetWear. While checking out the glosses, this duo shadow caught my eye and I just had to get one!

Streetwear shadows come in four shades namely Ocean’s Mermaid, Bubbly Me, Snow Gold and Satin Sand. At the time they had only two shades so I picked up Ocean’s Mermaid which is the one I’ll be reviewing today. I haven’t come across any stores that has had all four at one time as usual suffering from the ‘out of stock’ syndrome!

The ingredients listed on the back are Boron Nitride, Silica, Dimethicone, Iron oxides. Now I know that these ingredients sound very frightening so I did a bit of research on each. Honestly, I had never bothered to check these until I began writing this review.

All the ingredients mentioned above are FDA approved. Boron Nitride is generally used in mineral makeup as it has oil-absorbing property and it also has a ‘tactile’ feel which means it makes it easier to stick to the skin. Silica absorbs sebum that is produced by the skin and Dimethicone gives a ‘velvety feel’ to the skin or hair. Lastly, Iron Oxides are known to give colour to the product. There, not so scary now, is it?

The Ocean’s Mermaid shadow claims to be a “Rich colour that adds vibrance to your eyes”. Now there are two contrast shades in each. Ocean’s Mermaid has a turquoise and light pink shade – kind of reminds you a little bit of Ariel from The Little Mermaid! The turquoise is very pigmented and bright but the pink is a total let down. It is good enough for a slight wash of colour in the crease but on the lid it is disappointing!

Having said that, you need to use a good brush to pick up these colours like a sponge tip applicator or else you may find it annoying to keep going in again and again.

Now these shades are not completely matte. They do have a slight shimmer but in texture they have a satiny feel to them. I haven’ experienced any fall out as such as their staying power is satisfactory. However the colour may appear to be fading through the course of the day. A good tip is to use these with cream base or shadows which will enhance the colours very well and help them last!

Each duo comes with a small double ended sponge tip applicator but I broke mine. This does come handy for this particular shadow though.

A swatch is below:

Pros:

• Can be worn everyday without looking OTT.
• Not expensive.
• No clumping in the crease (this may be different for those with naturally oily lids)
• Range of colours to choose from (if they are available at your store, of course)
• Can be carried in your travel kit.
• Comes with an applicator so no need to carry a separate brush if you don’t wish to.

Cons:

• May fade during the day if you are not wearing it on a cream base.
• The colour pay off isn’t the best.
• No mirror! (unless that is not really an issue with you)
• The applicator does not last very long like most applicators.

Price: 175 for 3 grams.

I have seen the other shades – Satin Sand which is a duo of peach and brown. Then there is Snow Sand which is a duo of silver and gold and my guess is that Bubbly Me is the duo in the picture above! If I can still find these I’ll be lucky! I feel these eye shadows are great for beginners who are experimenting with colours and are on a certain budget.
