Style Tips To Make This Rainy Season A Breeze

(No pun intended!)

Monsoon is sweeping India with its heavy thunderous downpours. I love this weather! As much as snuggling under a blanket and having hot tea and pakodas is tempting, if you have to get out, rains are not really the best things to ask for. Flooded roads, wet clothes, makeup wash off…urrmmm not so nice.

Style Tips To Make This Rainy Season A Breeze

Here are some tips to get you through this (or any) monsoon fashionably:

1. Buy a pair of stylish rain boots or jelly sandals:

Oh how I hate the wet sock feeling. With rain boots, you can splash around puddles without contracting any water- borne infections. And if you don’t want to look too bulky or if the occasion doesn’t allow that, buy a pair of those colorful jelly sandals in plastic/pvc/rubber/silicone.

2. Carry an interesting umbrella:

The black clouds already lower your spirits. We don’t want to top that off with black umbrellas. Opt for bright colors (neon if you please!) and jazzy prints and patterns to brighten up a cloudy day and add a pop of color to your look.

3. Use a quirky rain coat:

Who says raincoats have to be boring and cause us a fashion disadvantage? Raincoats are the jackets of the monsoon and so choose them just like you would choose your jackets – colorful, bold and stylish. Make sure you buy a fitted one and not a baggy one.

4. Waterproof makeup goes without saying:

You don’t want to spend hours in front of the mirror perfecting your face only to get out and look like a vampire in a matter of 5 minutes. Use waterproof mascara, eyeliners and foundations.  Oh! And invest in a good quality water proof sunscreen. The UVA rays are still as strong as during summers even under the clouds.

5. Go colors!

Try to use bright colors wherever you can, to brighten up a dull rainy day. Reds, pinks, oranges, greens and violets. Be it your accessories, clothes or makeup. They will brighten up others’ mood as well!

6. Avoid denim, full sleeve tops and ankle length bottom:

Denim gets heavy in a matter of minutes once exposed to water. They stick onto your body and take ages to dry. Full sleeves easily get wet every time you touch surfaces and full length bottoms easily get wet as you move around. NOBODY likes the wet cloth feeling. Wear capris and skirts and go cap sleeve or sleeveless.

7. Be fabric conscious:

Use light cottons, georgettes and chiffons that dry up quickly and don’t cause embarrassment by sticking to your body. No sheer tops please.

8. Handbags – no leathers!

Tuck away all your leather bags and bring out the silicone candy bags. They will not only keep your stuff dry, but will also add some colors.

9. Hair – up up and way:

Tie up your hair in a high pony or bun to prevent the much dreaded monsoon induced frizz. Oh boy, how we hate that. That will also prevent the ends of your hair from getting wet and soggy.

How’s monsoon treating you guys? Is it raining cats and dogs at your place?

  1. Georgette is not the best fabric to get drenched in. It really irritates the skin when wet (been there, done that!), but the good thing is that it gets dried up pretty fast. I am planning to buy transparent umbrellas this year, if we get full on monsoon in Delhi. :/
