Styling Tips For Working Women

Dressing smart at work is important because it creates an impact on your colleagues and makes you feel comfortable about coming to a work place.

Styling Tips for Working Women

Outfit:
Your outfit should be simple without too many frills or multiple layers thrown in. If you choose to wear western clothes, pick a smart shirt and well-fitted trousers, elegant knee-length dresses or skirts which come across as both feminine and professional. For blouses, choose light colors, in soft cotton or linen. Avoid loud patterns and prints. Sleeveless blouses are okay but spaghettis and tops with halter necks and plunging necklines are a big no-no.

If you choose to go the Indian way, pick kurtis or cotton salwars in sober colors that look good all year long. Formal block colored sarees are also a good option. I see a lot of my colleagues in heavy sequined anarkalis and embellished garments at work. It makes them look so out of place.

Office outfits

If you choose a semi-casual look, a pair of well-fitted, dark blue jeans are a must-have. Avoid three-fourth pants and capris. The jeans are best paired with a crisp white shirt or a checked shirt. Collared or non-collared t-shirts or tops in solid colors are also great. Just pay attention to the fit – neither too tight, nor too loose. Avoid t-shirts with bold messages or prints.

Mint outfit

Footwear:
For western wear, opt for comfortable heels – stilettos or wedges, which have a broad platform at the heel. Flat shoes and ballets look very cool too.

For Indian wear, choose between sandals, closed shoes, peep toes. Flip flops and floaters are a no-no. Neutral colors are the best – white, black and browns.

Accessories:
A classic formal watch is an asset. Large dials are in fashion and can be used to make your style statement. Wear simple neck chains, bracelets and earrings to complete the look. Pearls look great with office wear. You can also use simple scarves and stoles and neutral colored belts. Carry a handbag in a non-loud colour and tone with minimal embellishments.

Pearl accessories

Hair:
Choose a comfortable hairstyle that will stay in place and look neat all day long. Tie your hair in a neat plait, bun or ponytail and stay stress-free all day long.

Makeup:
Foundation, compact, mascara, eye-liners, kajals, lipsticks, gloss, eye shadow, whatever may be your preference, light make-up is what your work attire needs. Wear bright shades of lipsticks only if you are sure of the occasion and of carrying it off well, else opt for a light colored gloss.

Office makeup

Perfume:
Wear one that is not so overpowering so as to clog your colleagues’ noses but yet strong enough to last all day long.

A French manicure or well-trimmed nails are great for the complete corporate look. You can also experiment with subtle nail colors.

    1. haha…I have seen girls wearing them in my office Jomo, accessorized with bangles, jhumkas and anklets too!!! 😛

  1. I have also seen a lot of women wearing heavily sequined anarkalis to work… such a put off! I hate mornings so I hate getting dressed up and applying even a tiny bit of makeup. I don’t know how so many people do it. :/
