Suave Tropical Coconut Conditioner Review

By Abirami Suresh

Hello everyone!

I have been a silent follower of IMBB for the past couple of years and try new products only after checking the reviews here on IMBB. I was quite surprised to find out that no one had reviewed one of my most often used conditioners and decided to finally take the plunge and review it. Today I am going to review the Suave Tropical Coconut Conditioner. I have been using it during summers for the past two years.

Price:
$2-$2.5 for a 665 ml bottle

Packaging:
The conditioner bottle is translucent and helps determine the amount of product left inside it. However, it is quite flimsy and bends when the conditioner is being squeezed out. I wish it was sturdy like its shampoo counterpart! The bottle has a flip cap that might not be ideal for travel purposes. Then again, nobody wants to lug around 665 ml bottle when travelling. This bottle is a family-sized pack.

My Experience with Suave Tropical Coconut Conditioner:

I have naturally curly hair (type 3c) and follow the co-washing method. I bought this conditioner after I had read so many rave reviews about it from the natural hair forums across the world. It is also hypoallergenic and comes under the “naturals” line. So, I decided to try it out and see its effects on my hair. I am not sure how “natural” the product is, considering the ingredient list contains dimethicones and various other chemicals.

The conditioner smells amazing (like a mix of coconut and tropical beachy fragrance) and the smell lingers in my hair for a few days. It looks very creamy, but in reality is really light-weight and will not weigh the hair down. Thus, it can be used by girls with limp/thin hair. It provides very good slip and hence makes the hair smooth and silky. As a result, detangling becomes very easy. It also adds a little shine to the hair. I have wavy-curly hair that frizzes out at the slightest hint of humidity in the air. The conditioner reduces it a little, but can’t fully tame the frizz.

Suave Tropical Coconut Conditioner Review3

I use baking soda as a sort of dry shampoo when my hair feels dirty, but otherwise co-wash with this conditioner. It removes mild dirt efficiently and doesn’t dry out hair. It is gentle/light enough to not cause dandruff/oily scalp even if the conditioner touches the scalp. But, it doesn’t provide enough moisture for really dry/damaged hair. So, it might not be enough for normal hair in winter/really dry weather.

Pros of Suave Tropical Coconut Conditioner:

• Hypoallergenic
• Inexpensive
• Smells coconut-y and tropical
• Lightweight
• Can be used on fine and thin hair
• Provides good ‘slip’ and makes detangling easier
• Adds shine
• hair feels a little softer
• This size lasts forever (at least 5 months with bi-weekly usage)

Cons of Suave Tropical Coconut Conditioner:

• Might not be moisturizing enough for damaged/frizzy hair
• Does not eliminate frizz completely

Final Thoughts:
This might work for not-so frizzy hair that doesn’t need heavy-duty conditioners like mine does. I use it in the summer when I don’t like my hair to be weighed down by heavy conditioners that might mix with sweat (gross!) and switch to heavier, more moisturizing conditioners for winter. It can be used by dry haired girls in summer though!

  1. Welcome Abirami. Seems like a great conditioner for summers, but my hair always demand something extra moisturising to control frizz.

    1. I totally get you!! I need something extra for the humid but still sunny kinda days as well… a hair serum/leave in conditioner does the job on those days…

  2. I tend to use a moisturizing shampoo ans conditioner since my hair needs that extra touch of care. When it comes to frizzy hair, I go for products which curb them completely so, this is a miss for me but no doubt a wonderful product 🙂

  3. This conditioner is very popular among those who co-wash. But looks like this is a very light conditioner which wont suit my dry and frizzy curls. Nice review though. Oh by the way, the ingredient list of this conditioner does not contain dimethicone. 🙂
