My Experience with Sugar Cosmetics Blend The Rules Eyeshadow Quad 09 Diamonds:
Sugar Cosmetics Blend The Rules Eyeshadow Quad range comes in a gorgeous 18 different shades. The palettes are customised as per your needs. They have warm-toned nudes, browns, bronzes for everyday wear and festive looks as well as dramatic evening makeup look palettes in blue, purple green and black colours which are meant for night time.
Packaging: This eyeshadow quad comes in a quirky, cute cardboard container having signature sugar prints on the top of the cardboard cover. The container has a magnetic closure lid which is strong and closes tightly to keep the eye shadow intact while travelling. The container feels extremely lightweight and it feels comfortable to be carried around everywhere.
This palette comes with dual-tip sponge applicator that can be used for application of eye shadow. If you are not convenient in using this sponge applicator for application purpose, you can also use eye shadow brushes. I prefer using brushes over this applicator. The name of the shade is mentioned on the front right side of the cardboard container. There is an outer black cardboard cover inside which the eye shadow palette comes. It has the sugar logo embossed on it and the ingredient details are mentioned on the backside of this cardboard box. There is one drawback about this palette; it does not come with a mirror. Overall, I like the cute packaging and it looks pretty.
Shade and Pigmentation: This shade is truly stunning and has a nice combination of colours. The palette contains 4 shades, out of which two shades are matte and two shades are shimmery. It contains both dark and light colours. This palette has a perfect colour selection which helps to create more drama with your eye looks and will be a great option if you want to create evening bluish smokey eye looks. I love these colours a lot. Now, let’s describe each of the shades individually:
Shade 1: The left topmost is a beautiful charcoal ashy shade with hint of brown and it is a matte shade. It can be used to create a base for smokey look application. It can also be used for blending other shades.
Shade 2: To the right of the topmost shade is an another bright, beautiful royal blue shade which is another matte shade. This shade is my most favorite shade in the palette. It has amazing pigmentation and has very little fallout. This shade is a go-to shade from the palette if you want to create a blue-smokey eye. The colour shows up well on the eyes and makes your eyes look very bright and poppy.
Shade 3: In the bottom row, the first shade is a metallic purple shade which looks very chic and gorgeous after application. It is shimmery in nature. It is better to apply this shade with fingers than to use a brush. It has no fallout and has bang-on pigmentation.
Shade 4: The last shade in this palette is a metallic teal green shade which is also great for smokey look creation. The texture is shimmery and the colour looks gorgeous on the eyes. It has excellent pigmentation and has no fallout.
After swatching all the shades individually, I felt that the shimmery shades in the palette have no fallout and it will be better to apply these shades with your fingers rather than using a brush. For applying matte shades, it is better to use brushes for blending purpose. They have little fallout. The pigmentation of the shimmer shades as well the matte shades is awesome and only 1-2 swipes is enough to obtain the true colour intensity. Overall, the shade range is very versatile and I love it.
Texture and Finish: The shades in this palette have an extremely soft, buttery and smooth texture and they glide on the eyes effortlessly. They blend beautifully on the eyes especially the neutral shades for the crease area and the metallic shades for the lid area. The shades don’t feel patchy and ensure a smooth finish post application. While applying the shimmery shades, if you use a wet brush, the colour intensity will be more beautiful and they will give a stunning look on the eyes. I mix and match different colours to create different looks. I really loved the way this palette fared for me. In a nutshell, this is a nicely formulated palette.
But there is one problem with this range, I feel that all the quads that have been launched by sugar have repeated shades. So, if you end up buying 5-6 palettes, you will definitely notice some shades being repeated. This is not economical keeping in mind the price point of these eye shadows. I wish they launched these quad palettes in lesser shades instead of 18 shades. Before buying this palette, see the colour options carefully, otherwise you might end up owning the same shades. When I am investing on eye shadow palettes, I would love to own different colours, so I just got 3 shades from their quad range and there is almost no shade similarity in them.
Staying Power: I feel in love so much with the creamy formulation of these eye shadows. Now, let’s talk about their staying capacity on my eyes. Well, I must say long-lasting staying power too. Without a primer on my oily lids, they stay for about 5-6 hours. With a primer, it stays for 7-8 hours without any creasing. These shades are easy to remove as well. They come off easily with any makeup remover.
Overall: The wuad range eye shadow palette from sugar is a great range if you want to buy an eye shadow palette. This offers palettes for neutral looks, for festive looks, for evening party looks. Therefore, as per your needs, you will find a palette of your choice. The shade “06 Diamonds” will be a good option for you if are looking for more drama in your eye looks. I am quite happy with this palette and it performs really well. I can’t think of any big drawback other than the repeated shades issues. I would highly recommend the readers to try out these palettes.
