Samantha Asks:

Dear IMBB,

“Please suggest some hair color available in India that would give me a color like the one in the attached picture, when used on naturally black hair. The hair in the picture is my own henna-ed hair, in camera flash. I love the color, and I would like to know how to attain it, whether in or out of direct sunlight.”

Curly Hair

Love,
Samantha

  1. Love your hair Samantha…..the color looks like a deep burgundy……I think you should check out for burgundy shades in L’Oreal Casting Creme and Wella Kolestint brands πŸ™‚

      1. Your welcome Samantha πŸ™‚ You know, I so much want to colour my hair like this…..its such a gorgeous colour πŸ™‚

  3. You have a good eye, Pooja! I myself can’t quite make out what undertones the color has. L’Oreal seems to be a good choice when it comes to hair color.
Any idea on how to get henna out of my hair, other than just letting it run its course and waiting for months together?
This is just regular henna, around 3-4 weekly applications. Shama Nikhar brand. The intense color is because of the flash, I guess. When you look at my hair on its own in regular lighting, the color is not like this.
My henna mix is henna powder, cold water, few teaspoons of vinegar.

  4. oh they`ve said it already πŸ˜› Perfect answers. πŸ˜€ But okay I have a question – you have really wonderful hair , not greying either i suppose – so why are you suddently switching to hair colour ?

    1. πŸ˜›
Nah not graying yet. Still (hopefully) have at least 10 years to go! I want the color to be visible even out of sunlight. Henna gives me wonderful color under bright light, but when I look at my hair in regular light, hardly any of it is seen. I want the color to be seen, that’s why.
L’Oreal Casting Creme Gloss seems to be really good- just read up on it and found out it washes out after a certain number of washes. So even if I don’t like it, I won’t be stuck with it forever. Goody! πŸ˜€
Of course I’ll have to wait for the henna to go out of my hair first. So I can’t be dyeing my hair anytime soon anyway.
Do you think a one-time hair color application can cause real bad damage to hair, Arja? Seeing as I’m a total noob when it comes to hair color, I have no idea myself. :/

  5. hi sam, the color is so rich n gorgeous. but heyy.. if u have achieved this color through a natural and beneficial ingredient like henna, then its good na. why do u want to try hair color then?

      1. heyy sam, u can go to the salon and request to have a look at the shade cards of different color companies. the hair swatches are real in that. u can also get two colors mixed.
one word of caution though – colors with a red base (like this one) tend to fade very uglyly (if thts a word πŸ˜€ ). the vividity is gone soon and u r left with a weird shade of copper orange. if u r ready to do frequent coloring, and ready to take extra care, like color protect shampoo conditioner mask, hair spa etc, then go ahead darling.. coloring hair is so much fun! i suggest loreal casting creme gloss coz its ammonia free.

  6. If you do not mind, I advice you to stick to natural stuff on your hair as much as possible. Once you color your hair, you have to keep doing that forever, because the color keeps fading. Even if you get the closest match to your hair color, once it starts fading, trust me, it doesnt look that good. I have a couple of grey hair because of which I got my hair colored. But afterwards, I felt that even 10-15% greys are better than going for hair color.

    1. Thank you Sam for your advice πŸ™‚
I have a question regarding the fading – if it is semi-permanent hair color too, will it look bad when it fades?
I want to color my hair as a one-time thing. If even semi-permanent color looks bad when it fades, then I don’t think I will be coloring my hair after all :/
Another question, if you don’t have any qualms about answering it – is your name Samantha too? πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€
