Sunsilk Lusciously Thick and Long Shampoo Review

Sunsilk Lusciously Thick and Long Shampoo

Sunsilk is a brand that defined the meaning of shampoo to the near billion population in India when it was first launched. Before that, washing your hair often meant something to do with reetha or ordinary soap. The fact that hair needed a different kind of soap was something that Sunsilk educated the masses on. Sunsilk was already a well-established international brand before it was launched in India. Even now, despite the permanent popularity of the Sunsilk range of hair products in India, there are still other Sunsilk products that have not been launched in India. Today, I am going to review a perennial favorite, the “pink” Sunsilk shampoo, Sunsilk Lusciously Thick and Long Shampoo.

My Take on Sunsilk Lusciously Thick and Long Shampoo:

I am sure everyone has a Sunsilk story. The more popular something is, the varied its public opinions are. Sunsilk shampoo has been a standard in my family and life, as it has been for many, many households all over the country for many years. It is the shampoo to fall back on. Sure, it has tried to revamp its image like another beauty staple Pond’s. It has done so to maintain its superior standard among the huge influx of foreign brands of shampoo. With successful packaging, an affordable, but not “cheap” price and deciding not to go the herbal or Indianized way to ensure Sunsilk still has that foreign feel, Sunsilk has done it all to survive among people who have loved it for so long. But what about the product?

I cannot remember how Sunsilk differs now from how it was when I was a child 10 or 12 years ago. Back then, it was all that “shampoo” meant. I can only look at Sunsilk relatively now from other brands and here’s what it does. Sunsilk Lusciously Thick and Long does not actually provide the extra thickness or increase in speed of growth that it claims to do. It is not a mild formulation and so cannot be used everyday. However, it can be used 2-3 times in a week. It has a nice fragrance, which is as expected, common but not a repellent. The fragrance lasts long after a wash.

Why is Sunsilk the Shampoo To Fall Back On?
Combined with the conditioner meant for this product, hair stays in a reasonably decent state. It doesn’t fight dandruff, hairfall, oiliness or dryness or stronger hair problems like alopecia. It is not mild, but it is not a strong enough formulation to damage hair or even work wonders in it. It is a good, but not a great product. Hair feels good after a wash and conditioning with the conditioner, but there are no long, lasting effects.

Pros of Sunsilk Lusciously Thick & Long Shampoo:

  • Gentle on hair.
  • Can be used regularly.
  • Affordable.
  • Available everywhere in India.
  • A product that has been trusted by many for a long time.

Cons of Sunsilk Lusciously Thick & Long Shampoo:

  • Doesn’t really have any nutritive effects on hair, despite claiming to do so.
  • Cannot be used whenever hair needs to be washed, not an everyday shampoo.

IMBB Rating:
If I have to rate Sunsilk Lusciously Thick and Long Shampoo, I’ll give it 3 out of 5 for all the good that it does do.

I think Sunsilk is a brand that has been taken for granted for too long. Changing the packaging and promotion strategies aren’t enough. The products need to become more effective as well.

  1. I love the smell of this shampoo..its been a while since I used it. 🙂
They seem to keep ‘reinventing’ the brand and formula every now and then..but nothing seems to have changed..
